Animal Medical of New City - Reggiano waiting for Dr Gillman!

Animal Medical of New City

The rest of the staff is always accommodating and friendly. Dr. Gittelman has gotten us through some very difficult times with great empathy and is nothing short of brilliant. He reached out to specialists we would never have known and remained involved throughout. Dr. Schenkel has also been caring and wonderful. She helped our pets immensely with various therapies and treated us like family throughout. Dr. Gillman is just amazing. We are so fortunate she is there to care for our pets with her gentle kindness and intelligence while successfully overseeing the staff of this busy practice. I can't say enough good things about this office.

Upon my cat's annual follow-up in 2024 the vet "found worms." I was told the YEAR PRIOR at his…read morephysical that he was clean. So for a year he had worms??? Despite being tested, and of course my paying for all of that in his initial check up and after I got him back from T.A.R.A., he had to go on a dewormer. And I had to also pay AGAIN for another fecal test to see if he was clean. Can I even trust that though? VAX WARNING: Dr. G wanted to combine a rabies shot with the distemper and I told him absolutely not. I am aware that this combo can cause animals to overheat and will kill them. And it literally just happened to my boyfriend's dog who was given rabies and distemper. I told this to Dr. G and he said he's aware that can happen, which is why he only gives the one year rabies shot with distemper so it will hopefully reduce the chance of that happening. WHAT?! How about NOT combining those two AT ALL to eliminate the chance of killing somebody's pet? Rabies shot should never be combined with anything. I did consent to the distemper, which I felt pressured to do. Well, he didn't need it, especially being strictly indoors. The vet also caused a massive welt in my cat's shoulder at the injection site. I called the vet office asap and the girl who answered the phone told me they don't give shots in animals' shoulders. I told her well that's where he was given this vax. She was arguing with me until she finally checked his chart and said that yes for some reason they did give him the shot in his shoulder. She told me if it does not start to go away soon then to bring him back in. Alot of prayer later and the injury did go away on its own and he does not seem to have suffered any permanent damage from it. Although the distemper shot made him extremely thirsty, and he was very lethargic and dazed for a full day. Never again. I also did not like that they wanted to clean his teeth (which had no tartar) with a "toothpaste" that is 100% toxic for cats and dogs and should never be something they ingest. I felt that I got a bit of an attitude when I expressed extreme concern that they would use a toothpaste full of poison, basically. They did ask me to explain my concerns which was considerate, so I sent a thorough letter explaining each ingredient and how it's contraindicated for animals to ingest. It can literally kill them. There seemed to be no concern. I know that vet offices are going to use what they want, and what pharma companies are pushing, so if I don't like that then I obviously have to go elsewhere. I was also told that he could get his teeth cleaned without the toothpaste but he didn't have any tartar so I decided against it.. When they wanted to check his urine they took him into the back and when they brought him back to me he was soaked with some kind of nasty smelling fluid, and he looked absolutely stunned and traumatized. They acted like this was normal and I received no explanation for what happened. When I saw Dr. B the year prior my cat was treated with respect and Dr. B seemed very compassionate and caring, which is why I initially gave this office a 5 star review. However I did not like Dr. G at all and saw that this was not a safe place for my cat. Lastly, I felt extremely disrespected when Dr. G expressed his opinion (unsolicited) about whether or not it was a good idea to have rescued my cat off the street? Dr. G had ZERO knowledge of the horrible, dangerous, and disgusting living conditions my cat was in. He did not even ask. Dr. G said my cat was just going to be bored now living inside, and maybe it's best to just leave them outside. WHAT?! I didn't expect a hero's welcome for getting my sweet cat off the street. But for the vet to tell me that my cat will just be bored and unhappy now in his new, safe, clean, loving, healthy home with steady, good food was just grossly unprofessional and uncalled for. Especially because I know I can't replicate the outdoors for him. Too many issues with this place and sadly more and more vet offices are not the loving and concerned places they used to be years ago. I will take my cat elsewhere if he needs the doc. To have experienced so much negativity, causes for concern, and issues, especially only on and from a 2nd visit, is a no go for me. I have numerous family members and friends with pets and nobody has ever gone to this office. I initially brought my rescue here because Dr. B is supposed to be familiar with handing strays and rescues. She was lovely. But my second visit turned out to be with another vet and I experienced entirely too many red flags. I hope if you go here that it's nice for you.

An Emergency That Was Treated Like Anything But One…read more I am absolutely appalled by my experience with VEG Emergency Veterinary Group in Nanuet. What happened to my dog was unacceptable, and I believe other pet owners deserve to know exactly what they may encounter at this facility. My 95-pound dog accidentally received a double dose of her medication. I immediately sought guidance from Poison Control and spoke with a veterinarian at VEG before arriving. Both advised that my dog needed to have vomiting induced, and that was the reason I was instructed to bring her to the emergency hospital. I did exactly what a responsible pet owner should do. I acted quickly and followed professional advice. Then VEG proceeded to waste 90 minutes. Despite knowing why I was coming and the treatment that had been recommended, it took an hour and a half for VEG to present a treatment plan. During those 90 minutes, my dog was actually seen for a total of approximately 10 minutes. The rest of the time? Waiting. Delays. More waiting. By the time they finally presented their plan, inducing vomiting was no longer being recommended. Let that sink in. I was specifically instructed to bring my dog to this emergency facility to have vomiting induced, only to wait so long that the very treatment I was sent there for was no longer part of the plan. And what was their alternative? Twenty-four hours of hospitalization at an estimated cost of $3,000. I found this absolutely outrageous. I had serious concerns about the charges being proposed and the lack of clear explanations for both the delays and the recommended hospitalization. I am not a veterinarian, and I understand that medical decisions can change as circumstances evolve. But when an emergency facility recommends an immediate intervention before arrival, I believe it owes the pet owner a very clear explanation if that intervention is not performed after a 90-minute delay. I have no objection to paying for necessary medical treatment. I would do anything to protect my dog. What I object to is the apparent lack of urgency, the inadequate communication, and being presented with an extraordinarily expensive treatment proposal after so much time had already elapsed. Ninety minutes to formulate a plan. Ten minutes of direct attention. A previously recommended intervention that was never performed. And a $3,000 hospitalization proposal. That is the experience I had at VEG Nanuet. Pet owners are at their most vulnerable when their animals are in danger. They deserve prompt attention, honest communication, transparent pricing, and treatment recommendations that are thoroughly explained. Instead, I left feeling that my trust had been violated and that my dog's emergency had become a financial transaction. VEG Nanuet needs to explain how a patient referred for a time-sensitive intervention can wait 90 minutes before receiving a treatment plan. Based on my experience, I would not trust this facility with my dog's care again.

I'm surprised at the negative reviews I'm reading on this site, but if ownership hasn't changed since I used them in the early 2000's I believe you will be in good hands. Why did I love Vet at the Barn so much? Background - My dog was a city dog. Never off leash outside. Only off leash in pool halls and bars and home. He did not like dogs and never came in contact with any animals. Ever. Every vet since has pushed heartworm medication on me. I test my dogs for heartworm every six months which means that I will always catch an infestation in time to treat it. This is a much safer alternative to monthly poisons that will likely never be needed. Vet at the Barn never recommended preventative heartworm medication based on lifestyle and my own heartworm testing regimen. A vet that doesn't understand this protocol is either ignorant or greedy. Run. I don't give rabies vaccines to senior dogs. They totally understood. Every vet since applies undue pressure for this. Again, my dog was never off leash and had nearly a zero chance of coming in contact with any animal. The risk of him having a bad reaction to a rabies vaccine as a senior was far greater than the odds of him coming into contact with a rabid animal. This protocol isn't crazy. They don't even have a rabies vaccine in Europe. Lepto Vaccine? Every vet since just pushes and pushes regardless of what I tell them about their lifestyle. I've never met a vet team that took so much of my dog's lifestyle in to account when determining a proper plan for having a healthy dog. This review is long overdue, but deserved based on all the experiences I've had since.

We moved from Rockland to NYC in 2010, and I dragged my heels trying to find a new vet for our babies. We stayed with Pomona Animal Hospital despite the long drive. Recently our we noticed our lab had a very distended stomach and we knew that he needed medical attention fast, so we called our new local vet and we were able to get in right away, so we took our lab to the new vet ( they were nice enough, but it just wasn't the same), they drew blood work and referred us to get an ultra sound ( it wasn't so easy to make an appointment but a little over a week later we got the appt- and a week after that we got the results...a mass that needs to be removed... A little inconclusive, so we had the report faxed to the new vet (who made the referral) and Pomona Animal Hospital-(mind you it was a Saturday afternoon) Dr. Puzio reviewed the notes and called me (we actually played phone tag) after hours to discuss the results) we decided to re do the ultra sound with Dr. Byman for that Wednesday (the new vet called me after my 2nd ultra sound was already completed) Needless to say we had surgery with Dr. Byman Thursday morning, and the two hospitals coordinated so beautifully and kept us in the loop the entire time. Now our boy is home and doing awesome!!! We have always had pets and they have never recieved such wonderful care as they have with Rockland Veternary, plus they take great care off the humans too! Thank you to Dr. Puzio, Dr. Byman, and all the wonderful staff at Rockland Veterinary!!iNo matter how far or near they are to you- it is so worth it to use them.

He suddenly ruptured a mass on his spleen and was told twice by two separate hospitals that he more than likely had cancer and would pass away shortly even with surgery if it was cancerous. We were heartbroken thinking we were spending our last moments with our baby. Dr Miccio has been his primary vet for some time now and spoke life back into the situation, my dog and my family. She gave us realistic hope again. She explained the risks and the realities if it was cancer once the spleen was removed and biopsied. Long story short, HE IS CANCER FREE. Dr Miccio is godsend and truly is a healthcare professional because she cares about the health of her patients. I am forever grateful to Dr Miccio and the whole staff that helped my baby recover and be given a chance at more life when others were ready to bury him. I highly recommend All Creatures Great and Small for any fur babies. I have included a picture of him making to his birthday post opp!
