The 2617 group of restaurants has always been a favourite of mine when dining out; Soju Girl in the city and Ellacure in Bruce are always outstanding winners, but I've never tried Versatile before, in what sits in the Functions of Federation functions centre in Gold Creek/Nichols. I got invited out to give it a go tonight and I have to say, it was OUTSTANDING.
I've always known it as a functions venue, but it translates very well into a casual/fine dining establishment. The decor is modern and tasteful and it's very intimate and inviting without being pretentious- this continues on with the staff, who are amazing and very clued in on what it is they're serving:) Pricing is very reasonable, as are the generous portions.
Everything on the menu just looks incredible- we ordered the scallops and the pork belly for entree- both of which were very juicy and tender. Mains were a special beef fillet and a lamb shank that were both cooked beautifully and my companion and I kept swapping our plates back and forth without being able to decide which on we liked the best. Even the sides were delicious- the seasoned potatoes, garden greens- just tasty as.
The dessert was a tough one to pick but we went with a brownie and a simple berry crumble which were both delicious.
Although not as centrally located as the other restaurants in the group, I'd have to say I found the meal to be absolutely divine on all fronts. The overall experience was fantastic and I'd recommend it as a great place for anyone who's seeking a great dining experience without the pretentious wank fest and often loud noises of other places in town. Highly recommended. DOWIT! read more
