I've been taking my Lexus is200t to the Lexus in auto mall for about 7 years now. The first five years were included in the plan, but the last two weren't. It wasn't until a couple months ago that I realized I was probably making a huge mistake and was getting price gouged! My father in law recommended Vern's auto clinic, a family run business in Fremont that he had been going to for the past 3-4 years. We made an appointment for a Thursday and right before we were set to go, we got a nail in my husbands tire. When we arrived at Verns to drop off my car, he patched up the hub's wheel for us! After a thorough inspection, it was determined I needed new brakes, which I saw coming! It took the whole day, from 8am to 5pm which was long, but luckily we had planned for it and it's understandable with a small shop. With oil change, tire rotation, new brakes, and other fluid refills, the price came out to around $550 including labor. This was great - Lexus was trying to charge me $850 for JUST THE BRAKES! And the best part is that Vern and his son are so nice :) It felt very safe and good to bring my car here and it's very likely that this too will become my go to car maintenance spot. read more

My roommate referred me here 2 years ago. As a woman who depends on the honestly of others, I needed both a great and an honest mechanic. That is what I have found here. Very respectful, professional, and fair priced. I can trust that what they say needs to be done, is what needs to be done. Reasonably priced. No unnecessary upsells or BS charges. I will stay here at Vern's Auto Clinic. Very happy Customer! read more

My husband took my Mustang there when it was having trouble. And they took such wonderful care of it. And got it running again. Thank you for being so caring about my car,! read more

My SUPER OVER DUE appreciation of the honest, caring and professional owner and staffs who took great care of my cars for years! They treat my cars like theirs and are not just going after your wallets!! Not that I have much $$$ for them to go after, lol... On top of my unfortunate events in 2019, my Audi died on me and I had it towed to their shop. They didn't once rush me to fix it/tow it away despite the fact that I have inconvenienced them. They cared about my well-being more than the car/business! It is the act of kindness that I will forever engrave in my heart! Moreover, I made my first ever purchase on a second hand car which I didn't have much knowledge on automobiles. They insisted to offer me a complementary inspection. How sweet and caring are they??!! The auto air freshener they gifted made my car smell so good now... kind of like a guy wearing cologne rode in my car... lol Late post 2022-01 read more

This is a small family owned place. They are knowledgeable, honest, and reliable. They do what they say, and they won't charge you for things you need. I just moved to Arizona, and I went to these guys for over 10 years, and this is the best auto shop I have ever been too. No unnecessary charges or fees. They don't up sell. No I didn't get paid, and I am not related. Good auto shops are hard to find, and I will miss them. read more

Excellent service, fair price, honest and reliable! Best shop ever. Highly recommend.

We've been taking our ~20 year old pickup truck and ~7 year old car here for the past couple years or so and I realized I haven't done a review (which they totally deserve!). I am so grateful for Vern and Junior. In the past, with a different vehicle I was having issues with, they checked another mechanic's work when I felt like I was being scammed and gave their honest opinion about everything and I knew I could trust them. They will always tell you if something is a need to fix or if it can wait. They have been doing great work on our vehicles and we have absolutely no complaints. We come here regularly for our oil changes every few months and they are thorough with their check every time. I never feel like they're trying to get more out of me or like they're taking advantage of my lack of car knowledge haha. Thank you Vern and Junior for everything! read more

I took my daughter's car to B&M Radiator shop next door to Vern's. Got there early, and was waiting outside when Vern walked into his shop and greeted my daughter and I - then informed us that the radiator shop usually opens a little later and invited us to sit in their shop. As it turns out my daughter's car also needed a mirror replacement so while we waited we asked Vern and Junior if they did that kind of work, they do, so we arranged to have them look at the car once the AC was worked on next door. Both Vern and Junior were super polite, friendly yet professional. They did a great job of informing and communicating us all along, not to mention fitting us in on the fly. Wonderful shop/people. read more

I've taken all the cars that I've owned to Vern. I've even taken some real scary pieces of work to him. Vern has always taken good care of me and has been fair and transparent about everything. He fixed my mangled timing belt in my VW Golf, when my job depended on it. He's done routine maintenance on my other rigs and on my wife's accord. With my wife's accord, there was an issue with the fuel pump and he bought the part online and replaced it. Due to a manufacturer error, the issue arose again and Vern and Junior rectified the situation for us painlessly. There's a reason why so many of my friends and their families even growing up have brought their Cars to Vern. He's the only mechanic I trust. I'm serious. Any more miracles by this guy and they'll have to venerate him as a saint. read more

A+ service all the way around! Always friendly and professional and fair pricing. I never worry about the quality of the work done.

Vern and Junior are two of the nicest guys and most accommodating and more importantly Vern is a very experienced and excellent triumph Mechanic Hehas done work on my car a 59 TR3 over the past couple years and every time it is done perfectly at a very reasonable cost I don't have enough good things to say about these guys read more

I went to this place very by referral from a friend she said these people were christians and very honest and very helpful I found junior to be very patient and kind on the phone going on to explain about the vehicles and so forth he said he be willing to take in my Jeep to look at it I made it clear that I did not want any work on it that I could not afford and he promised there would be no charge and till they let me know what was wrong and only then with my authorized it with their be a charge I went in to ask for a tool to pick up my vehicle to get the battery out of it rather and he said he doesn't want it on the property while I awaited for picnpull pool to come and get it I said OK so I guess I will drive it off the property now he said I owed him a $130 and when I ask for what he said well I talk with you on the phone for a 1/2 an hour about your 2 vehicles and we didn't say you needed anything you didnt actually need and we advised you that yeah we agreed with you you should just get rid of it and not put a $1000 into it as he had "d I said I didn't plan on it but I couldn't believe he was charging me a $130 when he said he just open the radiator cap and saw the sludge and knew then immediately that it had gone through the entire system when I came back to pay him with my debit card he adjusted to $65 I said why I thought you said a 130 he says well I will go meet you halfway because I don't want you to think we ripped you off I feel very bad because this was through a Christian referral friend of mine however there was no price discussion at me dropping off my vehicle and fact I realized now he didn't tell the whole truth he said I signed for it to be a $130 but he had me sign right when I was paying he did not have anything that I signed and agreed to prior to that but I didn't want any problems either but I think that in the future good business would make sure the customer knows how much they're paying for phone time advice and their ability to not charge for things we don't need as he said himself those are the things that he did for me totally $130 read more

I've been on the search for a good , trustworthy & reasonable mechanic for years (I've had terrible experiences in the past with mechanics ripping me off.) I needed to get my blinking light fixed so I asked my friends through facebook if they could recommend me to anyone. One of my friends directed me to Vern Smith in Fremont. I called the following day and explained that I needed my blinking light fixed; I brought in the car and I was pleasantly greeted by one of Vern's sons who works in the shop with him. He was so nice, took my car in to get it checked - turned out the socket had burnt out and needed to be replaced. Vern Smith Sr. told me that he could fixed the socket and that would last me a good while before having to replace the entire thing which would be more expensive. I was there for about 45 minutes and my car was done, he did a great job for literally pocket change. I brought in my car this morning because it was due for some maintenance before taking it to So Cal. I was greeted by Vern Smith Sr. He took down notes on that I told him that my car needed. I drove the car there myself and didn't bring anyone with me to give me a ride back to work and he actually drove me back to my office. He called me a bit earlier to give me details on that my car needed now and would possibly need to get done in the future. He explained everything in detail and the estimate was very reasonable for everything that my car needs. I'm so happy to have found this place! They don't try to rip you off, to the contrary they will give you different options to get your car fixed at very reasonable prices. read more

Vern along with his sons Junior and Matt are truly professional and highly skilled when it comes to automotive repair and customer service. I've had my work trucks and personal vehicles maintenance and repaired here for several years. Every experience has been more than satisfactory and complete without the high prices that most shops charge. Verns Auto Clinic is one of the rare businesses where honesty, integrity, and excellent workmanship combine to give consumers the service their vehicle needs. read more

I recently move to warm springs from Livermore and part of the relocation is finishing a new mechanic that is trustworthy and cost effective. And that is exactly what they are I brought my infinity g35 in for their oil change, which is a complete inspection and once over of the car. So it's on the higher side of oil change prices out there, but it's complete With tire rotation and 100 something point inspection is well worth the cost. Whenever the unfortunate car problem comes up, I will be back to them for service as an alternative to the dealer. Just be sure to make an appointment as their name and quality speaks for itself and they are always busy, but they are fast too. You won't be left waiting and waiting because they are true to their word and time estimates. If you're looking for a local shop in the Fremont/warm springs are that you can trust, Vern's is a perfect choice. read more

Great service always. Always quote reasonable price. $200-$300 cheaper for brakes compared to Toyota dealers. And if things don't need changing, they will not recommend you. There to serve not to rip you off! Great honest family business model read more

I went to this place because I was positive that I needed a new alternator and I was figuring that it was going to be a couple hundred dollars to fix. Junior gave me a call and told me that it was just a battery that needed replaced and that it was going to be an expensive fix at all. I was blown away by the honesty, the friendliness of staff, and the customer service. These guys have got a customer for life with me! I told all of my friends at work that if they need a good mechanic, look these guys up. They even gave me a 1st time customer discount! read more

This a good place to go Vern does know his stuff and charges a fair price I strongly recommend seeing him they do great work

Just got my alternator replaced at Vern's Auto Clinic in Fremont. Best Auto Repair shop I've ever been to. Rated Reader's Choice Best Auto Repair shop 2012 and I can see why. Vern and his 2 sons run the place. They do a great job and so super friendly and helpful. They even gave me a ride to/from my place. Dropped by car off around 9am and they had it all done by 3pm. They've just earned a lifetime customer as long as I'm local. read more

Had a check engine light and needed a mechanic who i felt was trustworthy and honest. Was referred to Vern's auto shop (Clinic) which is family operated. Found them to be friendly and trustworthy when they had checked my engine light free. Had talked to Vern Jr. who helped me with my options on how to go at fixing my van. After a diagnostics test, they said it was a faulty engine computer and they can fix it. They worked with me by keeping my informed and notified with any new details on the fix. Id recommend them for all my auto problems in the future as they went over and beyond what i thought mechanics would ever do. read more

While I know Vern personally, I have to say, everything in the previous reviews is true. This is by far the friendliest shop in Fremont. I was a single mom, and know nothing about cars. Vern and his sons will call about every additional repair they find and keep me posted. They do not hesitate to tell you what is necessarily immediately and what can wait. They understand honesty, the work stands, it's reasonable, and if ever I need to bring the cars back, they are extremely accommodating. read more

well let me tell ya, I called Vern's auto clinic after my wife and I purchased new vehicle. Ya see we're from TexArkana and we saw a new car for sale at least it was new to us. and as we drove off my wife and I decided to by new tires for our vehicle . So we went to Walmart and purchased four new Tires.... and as we drove off the tires EXPLODED!!!!!! all four of em. Well we got out of de vehicle and told Walmart they sold us defected tires and we want our Money back !!!!!!!! they told NO sir ! they said the tire exploded due to overweight capacity of the tires. This is were " Vern's Auto Clinic" came into the situation. I called and Spoke to a very very respectful young man and told him of our dilemma, I explained how I needed scientific evidence that in no way my wife nor I were the reason why our tires exploded. I explained the vehicle we bought was a GEO Metro w/ hatchback . now my wife; bless her ever lovin heart is a big ole girl about 450 lb and i weight about 375 not that big...... ok, and when the tires Exploded! Them fellers Laugh so hard that my wife has suffered emotional trauma and self-esteem issues. I know that we did not cause this to happen , because I took out the front seat so my sweet heart could sit in the back seat and this would ensure weight differential and with her back side outside the hatch back we were good to go. Well Thanks to "Vern's auto Clinic" and scientific ANalyses... they have PROVED !!! my wife nor I were the cause of this mishap. We drove home back to TEXarkana safe and sound. read more

Vern and his team is AMAZING at what they do. To my dismay, I bought a VW, and of course, it has a billion problems. Every time my 'Check engine" light comes on, or when my timing belt decided to break, Vern's Auto Clinic was the first place I thought of. They are dependable, trustworthy, understanding, caring and stand behind their work. They get my vehicle repairs done in a timely fashion and prices are totally fair! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my temperamental car. Take your's to Vern and you wont be disappointed!!! read more

ONLY READ IF U WANT AN HONEST OPINION&BE SHOCKED IN THE END TO FIND OUT I GOT SUCH GREAT SERVICE FOR A FEW SIMPLE FIXES!!! ^_^ I'm the typical female when it comes to car's, i.e. knowing enough but not enough to fix my own car ; / -Moving to a new area&trying to find a car place u can trust is VERY VERY VERY hard when u fit the typical "stereo type". So when I asked a co-worker about a car shop i could go 2 w/out constantly having to bring a male&get the same service, he recommended this place. I can not put into words how OVER JOYED I am to have found a place i can trust 100%!!! Extremely friendly, will take the time to explain everything&make sure u understand, doesn't hesitate to take u to ur car&point out where the problem area is, gives u an honest opinion on parts to help u find the best part that fits ur "needs", not to mention if u have a warranty w/ur car dealership&ur afraid to go anywhere other than the dealership for reasons of "poor documentation" that will void ur warranty; REST ASSURE VERN'S will document EVERYTHING!!! -Not only that but if there is something to be fixed they will pull up ur warranty and make sure it's covered b4 they even begin to discuss parts&labor. -Even if they don't provide the service ur wanting done on ur car (i wanted Nitrous put in my tires,) the whole "U-Shaped Corner" work like a huge family that all come together to meet the customer's needs. -Mind u, that i came to see them for VERY SIMPLE fixes; an oil change&some new wind shield wipers! And in return I found "Better Than Dealership Quality Service", fast w/out compromising quality or care, and an EXTREMELY TRUSTWORTHY Auto Clinic that I tell all my female&male friends about ^_^ I will be seeing them shortly for my, long over due, 15,000 mile over haul as well as some other minor fixes; yes I am still a typical female when it comes to time&procrastinate ~_^ lol -They should really change their name to: "HONEST VERN'S AUTO CLINIC!!!" read more

I love this Clinic - I love these people - I have been going to Vern's since they opened - Honest Kind Trustworthy - after awhile you just know what to expect and then a family member or friend frustrated tells their story about another place and you send them to Vern's. It is a relief to have a place to talk it all over and trust that they are recommending just what needs to be done - I have stories lots of Stories but they all end up one way - At peace, feeling taken cared of, with safe running cars. It was an overall excellent experience. I was not quoted some exorbitant figure for 60k service like the dealership does. I was clearly told that only items that needed to be recycled or fixed would incur a cost. I was slightly weary of taking my car to an independent shop since this car has always been maintained by the dealership. Vern and his son Junior were extremely professional and took the time to explain what items needed my attention. They were honest about what needed an immediate fix and what could wait. They made me feel very comfortable right away. It's been a couple months and the car is running great. I plan going back to them for all services here on out. I recommend Vern to anyone who wants to maintain their car at a cost effective price. read more
