To get here, drive past a paper company in the industrial district down a narrow road. The U.S. Coast Guard sits at the end of the spit but there is plenty of space for you to park. It's known to be a place to watch the sunset which is what we did, and we saw other cars parked there doing the same. It was super windy outside so we took some pictures and then went back to the car. This spit allows both cars and pedestrians, whereas the longer sand spit east in Sequim (Dungeness Spit) doesn't allow cars.

This is a really ghetto park; it looks like it's the current homeless / drug hangout at the end of…read morethe peninsula. There is pretty much nothing there besides a few cars parked there for good on a dirt lot. We immediately left after we got to the end. The road to the way there was filled with crappy cars that raced way above the speed limit; it seems this is the local hooligan spot... There were some kite surfers on the way there to look at but in summary, Port Angeles seems like a fairly sad place to live.

Dang! For our first hike we decided to be quite a bit ambitious. We were blinded by the fact that…read moreit was a shorter hike despite it stating it was strenuous with switchbacks. I failed to read reviews on my trusty Yelp app and winged it. I wish I had done more research and read some reviews. Since we were visiting from a flattish state our love for hiking usually consists of traveling somewhere with more terrain and mountains, so let it be known that we were not quite ready to get the wind knocked out of us from the elevation and switchbacks. Despite all of this, we truly enjoyed every step of the way. We packed lots of water and took breaks when we needed to. It was easy to embrace the forest around us, breath in the crisp fresh air, and see unfamiliar plants, moss, and flowers. As soon as we got to the top my fear of edges took over, I wasn't mentally prepared and decided to wait for my boyfriend to come back from reaching the summit via a rope off a ledge. It started to get a little more busy with more people coming and the unsaid pressure got the best of me. I still enjoyed the moment I got to rest at the top before the rope, and the view was beautiful. No matter what, hiking will always be something I love. I may be on the slower side of hiking and perhaps more cautious than I was years ago, but this type of movement is always my favorite. Once my boyfriend got back we trekked the way down and were proud of ourselves. This experience just makes me want to travel to more places we can get a great hike in just like this. Lake Crescent from the top was amazing. Just as other hikers have said, take lots of water with you, some snacks, give yourself breaks when you need it and if you can make it to the summit, go for it! If you're not feeling it, give yourself grace, you trekked an arduous and beautiful hike, you made it!

Start at the Mount Storm King ranger station to park and then keep walking to go under the street through a tunnel. You'll keep walking under you see a fork in the road that goes to the falls or the start of Mount Storm King. The incline is tough but you just keep going and starts in the woodsy area and as you keep going up switchbacks, you'll see rocks (and snow!) towards the top! Once you start reaching the top you'll start climbing over rocks and then hit the ropes section. PROTIP: Bring gloves! One with grip is best, but it definitely helps to grab the rope with them. I'm so glad we brought them. There's steep ledges where the rope is helpful and necessary, about 3-4 of them to pass. After you finish that section head towards right rocky area where it doesn't look like a path but actually is the top! The left side may look more level but is snowier and there's no actual end. Overall a really great hike that takes you through so many terrains of Olympic National Park in this one hike!

Hike was only like 2ish miles to get to the actual punchbowl itself. Isolated spots if you want to take a solo swim like I did. Lightning and gloomy skies going on when I went, so the cave tunnel felt a bit spooky, but very short walk of like 0.25 miles. Could see the different shades of green within the foliage that had me in awe of the beauty in Washington state nature. Nothing much to say other than the site being so beautiful and the hike being an easy stroll. Bring water shoes, towel, and extra pair of clothes!

Best suited to tent camping as a majority of the sites have shorter paved drives that are quite uneven. Would definitely be hard for longer rigs. First come only, and to get your site you must either log into the system (with limited cell service) or write your entire credit card info onto the form and leave it to be processed...no cash. Not so much a fan of that notion. We took the Heart o the Forest trail available from the top loop, although we didn't take it to the end. An out & back, narrow, with lovely trees. Overall a nice forested campground, with loads of sites of varied shapes and sizes and levels of privacy.

On our tour of the Olympic Peninsula this was our first stop. It made for a great first night and…read moreis just outside of Port Angeles. We arrived late on a weekday night after working a full day on the Eastside. This campground is first come first serve so we couldn't really plan ahead and had to hope there would still be something available. Even though we arrived only a few hours before dark we were able to find a really nice campsite nestled in the woods. There are several loops with nice sized camp sites for both tent and Rv camping. We found a lovely private site that was clean and free of litter and well maintained of debris. Each site is surrounded by gorgeous trees for privacy, mossy rocks, and peaceful forest views. After getting set up we enjoyed a restful and quiet night. The bathrooms were well maintained and there was also water for cleaning our dishes. Each loop seemed to have its own bathroom and garbage sites which was super convenient. We saw several deer, birds, and other little critters on our brief night's stay and look forward to coming back to visit them soon.

I suppose in fairness I should probably give three stars because there's nothing fancy here, but I have loved walking around this park for over 40 years, and emotional attachment is making me give another star. Unlike when I was a kid, homeless people live here now, but none of them have ever bothered me. Honestly, I'm just glad they have such a nice place to go. There's plenty of room for everybody.
