Saturday morning. 3 inches of snow on the ground and our cabin has no breakfast. Crum Bum (bakery) hit my radar. I parked directly across the street from Crum and I saw the Polyanna Gateway! Then I thought, where is the statue and just beyond my husband's truck, there she was! It was meant to be! I happily went up the large step, took a photo of her and then us together. I then sent the photos to my Mom!

Located on the front lawn of the library, the parking lot is behind the building or park in town and walk over. Across the street is the Pollyanna Gateway which is a pedestrian stairway with a piano on the sidewalk at the top for anyone to play and colorful umbrellas overhead. At the bottom of the staircase is a public mural project. Littleton, NH is a cute little town with shops and restaurants to visit while in the area. A nice stop along the way.

The paths from what I could tell were pretty well maintained and there were a lot of people hiking in the area. There's a scenic overlook which has quarter operated viewfinders. Once you get to the Carriage House, if you want to take the trolley up to see the "Castle" (house), there's a cost. Adults are $23 and 4 + under a free. The trolley goes every 15 minutes. Once you get to the top, you have to watch a 7 minute video about the estate prior to walking around / taking a tour. The grounds are pretty but it's the view you're looking for. The house is okay, it's neat because most of the furniture is original to the property. But I feel like once you've seen one historic rich man's house, you've seen them all. No dogs or strollers are allowed up to the castle, by the way. There's also only a porta potty available up there. The carriage house has a restroom & a restaurant. There's a cute little gift shop nearby, too. The main draw for all the kids is the candy. Once you walk down to the pond area, there's a little shack "Cafe in the Clouds" which serves Gifford ice cream and some delicious sandwiches - I recommend the turkey pesto! Overall, it's a nice way to spend a morning but if you're not interested in the house itself, there's still plenty to do on the property.

My friend goes to Dartmouth and gave me a tour of this main building on Campus. I was not expecting the building to be very different inside. There are multiple study area: a traditional dark oak room with chandeliers, a more modern and open study area with lots of light, and a basement area with a large mural. They also have a side room that's in memory of Dr. Seuss, who was an alumni at Dartmouth.

It is built of blocks of native granite with the non-functioning zipper extending along the ground for 74 feet down this narrow alley. Artist Chris Miller named it "Unzipping the Earth," and maintains the flowers. For scale, it would need to be attached to a 450-foot-long pair of pants but no trousers are here. It is next to the Studio Place Arts building here in Barre (aka Granite City). The pocket park is open 24 hours but is not lit at night. The Vermont Granite Museum is nearby. Makes sense.) There's something soothing about walking around the gallery. Perhaps it's just the small town atmosphere that fills the town. Edgewater is just so easily accessible if you ever find yourself wandering around in "downtown" Middlebury. It serves its purpose well as an art gallery, no complaints. (Though, I recall seeing plastic vegetables mounted on a wooden board being sold for several hundred dollars. Everybody's a critic, including me.) This place serves as a great way for local Vermont artists to get their name and work out there. I hope that when I come back, I'll see some new pieces-- otherwise, these artists likely aren't selling their work!

I love how each exhibit was something I had never seen before. Overall, the museum is very clean and organized. I was impressed by how interactive the exhibits are: each station has questions to ask yourself and sometimes even tangible sample structures to help you better understand the art without damaging it.
