It started Tuesday 4/24 when I discovered that my Verizon Android cell phone was dying. The phone wasn't taking a charge, even after I tried several chargers,
house AC charger, car DC charger, etc. I figured the battery was dead and needed to be replaced, so it was off to Verizon at 1504 Scranton-Carbondale Highway in Dickson City, PA 18519, where I had purchased the phone 18 months ago.
Upon arrival at Verizon, there were a bunch of reps just standing around, and one gentleman behind the counter finally called me over, while he was also engaged in a detailed
conversation with a female sales rep who was having a problem with her computer terminal. I explained my problem to him (while he was explaining her problem to her)
which was kind of disconcerting [I should have announced EXCUSE ME, BUT YOU ARE SERVING ME RIGHT NOW, MAY I HAVE YOUR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION PLEASE?]
but I usually don't get that outspoken. Well, not usually.
I did explain that the phone wasn't charging and that I had tried several different chargers.
He noted that there appeared to be a pin broken off inside the phone, in the charging receptacle and he showed me that.
I said: OK, so how much does it cost to get that fixed?
He said: We don't fix phones at Verizon.
I said. Excuse me, I bought the phone from Verizon, at this store in fact, you need to get it fixed for me. I expect to pay.
He reiterated: We don't fix phones. You'll have to contact the manufacturer, HTC.
I said: They're in JAPAN !!!!!!
He said, "Well that's all we can do [nothing..] Go home and get on the internet and locate HTC and see what they can do for you.
I said "How about an exchange for a similar, even used, but working phone?"
He said: Nope. You're not up for a new-for-2 phone replacement until September.
I said: "But I'm paying about $100 a month for your service, and my phone isn't working, and you won't do anything about it? That's not fair!
He reiterated: We don't fix phones. You'll have to contact the manufacturer, HTC
I said: How about if I just buy a new iPhone?
He said: $599.
I said: I'M OUTTA HERE.
Went across the street to AT&T, where I was warmly welcomed by a nice young lady who switched me to AT&T, and was happy to sell me a brand new iPhone 4S for $199
with a free Otter Box case and car charger too. I am now on AT&T.
