This used to be one of our favorite restaurants to go to and tell people about but this last trip was very disappointing. The presentations were very different, sloppy. The taste was off. Seemed to be very understaffed as well, it took a quite a while to receive drinks as well as food. My margarita was incredibly bitter. We had friends also go a different night (we recommended they try this place) and they also said the same thing. Very unfortunate, as this used to be the spot for us for date night. read more

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant! The service was amazing, who happened to be the owners son. He told us the history of the family moving from CA to open a higher end Mexican restaurant and to be next to their family. We ordered the fish and the pork belly tacos as well as the cauliflower. Amazing. I just had the best fish tacos of my life here in Davenport, Iowa, where I am staying for just one night. Holy cow. I did not see that coming. The rest of the meal was fantastic, especially the tortilla chips and mango margarita. But those fish tacos set a new standard. Also, our waitress was as nice as can be. Used to be one of our favorite restaurants, with a lively menu, fresh ingredients, and cuisine that people would travel distances to enjoy. BUT They changed the menu/kitchen staff. (Serving staff was amazing though) The food was beyond bland and painfully unimaginative sopas tasted like canned chicken. We wound up leaving and dining elsewhere. I just took a trip to flavor town and wanted to stay overnight. Every sip, every bite, and every savory morsel was exotic and comforting at the same time. My husband and I love authentic Mexican food, and as such we love to try all the different types of Mexican food in the area. The QCA has decent representation of the varied types of Mexican cuisine but Verde seems to be the first if not only upscale Mexican restaurant. It's an overdue, welcome addition to the food scene. Each of our four dishes - cauliflower, shrimp ceviche tostadas, beans/rice, and carrots with beet mole - were masterpieces. Verde's chef truly harnessed the complexities of Mexican cuisine in each plate. Our spicy mezcal margaritas were expertly crafted with insight and true creativity. But my god, the bourbon and mezcal with chocolate bitters? Next.Level. It may come as no surprise that I enthusiastically recommend Verde as the Newest and Best Restaurant in the QC! Depending on the time of day you plan your visit, you may need reservations which are easy to make on their website. Please note: the GPS directions to Verde are a bit deceiving: it's in the ground floor of the apartment complex. Food was on point as usual! They had a starter that was called "Ensalada del Mercado" a beet and strawberry salad with fresh basil and fennel and roasted goat cheese) that was perfect. I'm so sorry to report that we had a very disappointing meal tonight at a place we had counted on to be a good place to celebrate my husband's birthday. Having already eaten here with success, this time we were surprised to have two main dishes that were so overly salted that they were inedible. After explaining our problems to the server, we received our bill with absolutely no compensation for two returned dishes. In all good consensus it would have ben nice if the chef (oui chef) had taken the time to talk with us. It wasn't just the mole that was too salty, it was also the steak and the chicken itself that were overly salty and therefore impossible to eat. This is our third time visiting. Other times things were much better. New chef? New recipes? Hold the salt please. read more

We attempted to eat here a few weeks ago. Despite the restaurant being about 2/3rds empty, the host had to check with several others when we requested a table for five. We were told they couldn't accommodate us. I could muster more tolerance for the nonsense had they cited limited staffing, but the reason offered was that their policy prohibited them from pushing tables together or adding a chair to the end of table. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the children in my party. Incidentally, my kids are better mannered than your staff and spend money as well as your patrons. read more

This is a no. We learned a new chef is at Verde. Several "original" dishes are still on the menu, but are different. There is no flavor. Tasteless food. We tried the sopas with chicken and habanero. It tasted like canned chicken. The staff is great and trying to make this restaurant successful. I'm not sure they can. We left, paid for our food and went to another restaurant to eat dinner. I came to Davenport IA on a whim to see a concert. The staff was extremely friendly and kind. They accommodated me even though I did not have a reservation. The place had a very cozy ambiance. I had the Verde Margarita and it had a very light hint of Elderflower not too overpowering. I ate the Carnitas tacos.and was not disappointed the tortillas were home made chipotle salsa was delicious and it had the right amount of onions and cilantro with a hint of orange zest.. The food is delicious! After going to Verde for the first time early this fall, it's where I wanted to go for my birthday. We have never disliked anything we've tried and the first time we went our group ordered one of each of the things on the menu! Each of the dishes we tried was not just good but superb. My one complaint is that some of the dishes are so rich I need something in between bites to break up the richness. A creative slaw or salad? Something light and bright. He is such a skilled chef to elevate these ingredients and develop amazing flavors. And the staff is so friendly. For such a nice restaurant the food comes out pretty quickly on a weekday. It may seem pricey if you go there thinking your getting Mexican food. It's not your typical Mexican food. We had excellent friendly service. The entrees include the meat item only and in small portions. This is not specified on the menu. The price is set too high for this quality. A little veggie would look much nicer but instead all you get is a chunk of meat and a sauce. I complained about the small size of the salmon and the tail portion of salmon (less desirable) and they argued it was a full 7 ounces and fresh, one hour from transport. Everyone knows fish in the Midwest (and just about everywhere) is transported frozen so it's all fresh. Our group of 13 spent a fortune here but I will never come again. Really enjoyed Verde! It was unlike anything else we have in the Quad Cities. I felt like I was on vacation somewhere! The atmosphere was nice and the service was great. While the food was flavorful, my steak was cold (not room temperature) but cold. 2 of the 3 dishes were over salted. The first time we went, although only 2 tables were filled, we were turned away because they were too busy and we didn't need a reservation.
