In early June I purchased a well priced cushion cut diamond off JamesAllen.com, one of the biggest online diamond websites. I was told that it would ship to me two weeks later which was perfect because I already booked our sailing trip to the BVIs where I was going to propose. Two weeks go by and I don't hear a peep from JamesAllen so I decide to get in touch. The agent told me that because of the size of the center stone it's going to take the jeweler a bit longer. Ok fine, fair enough. It was a custom order so I figured this made sense. A couple of more days went by and I didn't hear anything so I called back. This agent told me that it was taking the jeweler a bit longer than usual but it will absolutely ship to you on Tuesday. Ok great. Tuesday comes and I don't hear anything so I call them again, this agent tells me that it's still set to ship today. It was 6pm so I asked the obvious...it's really going to ship today this late? She assured me that they ship until 8pm so it will. I asked her to call me whether it ships or not just to confirm. Oh, I was getting nervous cause we were set the leave that Sunday...5 days away. About an hour later I get a call from the head of customer service who very nicely tells me that this is one of the hardest calls he's had to make. Instantly I thought, no bueno. He begins to tell me that from the production facility to the shipping facility (which is one block away) that they've lost the diamond. They don't know if it fell in another bag, order, on the floor, etc. He tells me that he has never had to make this call before. I calmly ask him, ok well can we make a similar ring, thinking he must of more diamonds and some options for me, nope. He begins to tell me more bad news, "I can't make you a new one before you leave either. So I recommend you go local." In the midst of freaking out I started browsing yelp and found Vivid Diamonds. They had nothing but 5 star reviews so figured if anyone could help these would be the guys. They were closing in 5 minutes but I called anyway and Ari calmly answers the phone. I tell him my situation and he was so relaxed. He tells me to send him an email with the diamond and he will figure something out. I emailed him and he calls me back in 10 minutes and says, "man be happy they lost it, you don't want that diamond." He tells me to come in Wednesday afternoon and he will have some options overnighted from the west coast for me. I arrive Wednesday and I'm instantly treated like family. Ari and his business partners are all saying hi and offering coffee and water. The first diamond he shows me is perfect and he stays within my price point! He gets me in a temporary setting for the proposal and built her the perfect setting for when we return. I can begin to express my gratitude for Ari and Vivid Diamonds. However, we were not able to acquire an appt for the day we were both available so we walked into the Miami location without an appt. The initial greeting was more of an interrogation and the whole experience felt extremely condescending. I was blasted with a series of terse questions in a tone that made us feel like he was annoyed with us from the start. I explained that I was looking for a whole new engagement ring setting upgrade. When he asked me: "Do you know what you want?" I told him I was interested in the Aimee setting and he attempts to correct me and says, "You mean Amelie?" in a tone implying what I wanted didn't exist or I had the name wrong. I reiterated that the setting I wanted WAS Aimee. Why would you correct a customer in that manner especially if you haven't confirmed that setting that the customer mentioned existed? The tone was so condescending that even my husband thought I got the name wrong. We were finally shown a few examples and ended up placing an order for a stone and setting with the standard 50% deposit. When the ring was ready, I made a 45 minute appt bc I was looking to purchase a wedding band to go with my new engagement ring. My husband and I were standing next to each other when an anther associate called for Gerald to attend to us. Gerald came out and walked directly towards us and greeted my husband with a hand shake and continued to address him only. It was obvious that he didn't remember us, which is fine, but not once did he acknowledge me, let alone shake my hand. My husband told him we were there to pick up an order since that was on the top of his mind. Gerald corrects him stating that "this was an appt for a wedding band." That's when I interjected and said I was looking to purchase a wedding band too. He brought out my engagement ring and it was not even cleaned. I asked if he could clean it before I try it on and when he went to go clean it, he said out loud to his coworker, "I'm going to the back. Watch this. They haven't paid yet." By that point the only thing of value on the counter was a free gift valued at $1000 that came with the ring purchase. We had already paid $4000+ deposit for the engagement ring he was taking to the back to clean. Did he think we were going to run off with the free gift and forfeit the deposit AND the ring? We understand the general security concern but there are more polite ways of signaling your coworker to watch the items that don't make your customers look like they're going to snatch-and-run. In contrast to our previous visits, we picked up my wedding band today and the service provided by Gabriel was kind, friendly, and personable. He and his colleague greeted us with a smile and with none of the condescending tone we experienced previously. During our short appointment Gabriel even noticed my husband's camera and they struck up a conversation about photography. When I asked if he could clean the ring I picked up previously, he never told his colleague to watch anything "because we hadn't paid." He just mentioned to her that he was going to the back. While we were waiting, we even noticed the other associate greet a group of customers that walked in without an appointment in a much more warm and welcoming tone than we experienced with Gerald. Instead of the terse questioning, she welcomed them and asked: "May I ask if you had an appointment?" When they said no, she simply asked if the group was all together and proceeded to help them, offer them water, etc. If I ever have to deal with Gerald again, I would never want to purchase anything from Brilliant Earth as customer service is the most important part of any purchase. Otherwise, I would highly recommend Brilliant Earth for ethical diamond purchase and would have given them 5 stars.

Long story short they gave me someone else's CAD file when I sent them my own custom pic. They sent me 2 designs as far as details on how I wanted my pendant. Instead of saying my bad I misheard or misinterpreted what you were trying to convey, he says " you liked the details on that one so that's what I made". Make it make sense, I sent you MY PIC multiple times. Let's back it up a bit. I called once a week trying to get it done so that it can arrive with my chain. I even left my phone number one day after unsuccessfully trying 3 times in 1 day. "He left for the day, he'll be back monday". I called monday from my job and cell phone and as i'm calling he's emailing me saying "we're busy we can't answer the phone" but you see me calling to address the situation and you have time to email and service customers instore. Make it make sense.I paid $15K in total. Here comes the upcharge "oh 31g only fills the back you are going to need at least 60g to fill it out". I would've paid an additional $2800 for that. I say that to say this. Respect, Honor and Integrity goes a long way. Yes I canceled my orders. I WILL NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN.
