They also have 10% discount for students which is nice :) I got another hair cut just yesterday and I felt the barber was so caring -- it literally melt my heart. He was saying how to take care of hairs, joked about being worried about getting bald (in reply he said, you should start worrying when you are 60 :p), and also showed me how to use hair gel (which I never used before). As a whole, I always feel welcome here and have fun conversation with the barbers. The only downside could be, they are cash only! So beware of that before you get in.

Mine took about an hour and, afterwards, I was given a bit of advice on how to style it (in light of some of the idiosyncrasies of my hair - thick and high density). The shop also has its own brand of hair products which I got to try. The price for this is slightly high but - having experienced the product in my hair for a few hours now - I wish I'd purchased some. Next time I will.

I took my son here this weekend for his first haircut. We're celebrating his second birthday next…read moreweek and I wanted him to have a nice new cut for his party. While the experience here was fine, the outcome was... well, underwhelming. I chose this place after it came up multiple times in a Google search for "black hair barbershop." Coming from Los Angeles, I was skeptical about finding a place here that I thought would do a good job but this place looked urban and like it had a cool atmosphere. Let me first start by saying the place is trendy. It's nice - nice decor, very nice barbers. I assume that the barber who cut my son's hair had little experience with my son's hair texture. When he began to cut my son's hair, he went at it like he was trimming hedges - picking it out and going at it with scissors, picking it out and going at it with scissors. Now perhaps that's a way to typically cut black hair but my son has very tight ringlets so every time he picked it out, it recoiled... unevenly and so each cut to each section was uneven. We couldn't really tell in the dimly lit barber shop but when we got outside in the light there were very long pieces, holes and gaps. It was a bit of a mess. My husband and I were quite upset about it. The next day, we put our son in the tub, wet his hair and cut it again ourselves to get it even. Like, I said, my son is 2 so I didn't expect him to come out with the flyest haircut but I did expect something better than what we could have done at home, with no barber experience. To the barber's credit, he was personable and very patient with my son. I just don't think he's cut hair like my son's before. In closing, if you have straight hair or are black and prefer a cut with clippers, then perhaps this a good place for you. If you've got curls or anything that deviates from "typical" keep looking.

After a year of searching I almost gave up hope finding a barber that could do a stylish cut my 16-year-old hockey player son would feel great with AND would also provide quality and service that would make his parents happy. And then I was thrilled to find Alexis at The Common Room Barbershop, because he provided the best barber experience we've ever had, with both teen and parents leaving extremely happy. After sharing some photos and loose ideas of what my son was looking for, Alexis made some suggestions that addressed our concerns. He had great barber skills that we haven't experienced anywhere else with texturizing and styling. This was probably the first time the final cut absolutely met and even exceeded the expectations, and there were no complaints about any aspect. Alexis is also a hockey player and a fan, so the conversation during the entire cut with my son was a pleasant surprise and a great added bonus. His help with selecting the styling products was also very much appreciated. The shop's ambiance was nice. Scheduling an appointment was easy on the phone just a day prior, and the person who booked it for me mentioned the student discount, which I certainly can't complain about. Even though we came to see Alexis while visiting from the US and live about 9 hrs from Montreal, we'll definitely be coming back to see him when we are in the area.

From my description, he understood how much to cut and I agreed that cutting half the length on the sides was what I had in mind as well. Yet, I got a cut that doesn't even remotely resemble the pictures I showed and emphasized multiple times during the cut that I wanted to keep the curls and length on top. He cut the top way too short. I had even mentioned it to him again before he started with the scissors that I wanted to maintain some length and keep the curls. It was my first time there and I was really excited to have a new barbershop near my work but this really disappointed me.

Probably like 5 or 6 times I gave second chances, tried 3 different barbers which I hate cause everyone knows switching barbers is like cheating on your homegirl but I had hoped the next one was going to know how to handle my curly thick hair. It's not THAT complicated to do a nice looking fade, but when it comes to proportions and details theses fools should go back to school. I had better haircut for 15$ in Brooklyn. They charge 30$ here. The store definitely needs to be redone and if the owner needs a handy man holla at me man that's what I do! But thank to the workers and owners, atmosphere is cool/laid back depending on who you are I guess but they need to be more professional. Won't go back there tho.
