This school has a horrendous ant problem. LAUSD seriously needs to do something. Its not even like " Oh theres just a few ants here and there", No. There are colonies of them everywhere, including inside classes. Watch where you sit as there may be a trail of ants read more

This school took someone who was once full of hope, ambition, and excitement for the future and left him feeling defeated. Someone I love dearly entered this school with big dreams and a genuine desire to build a better future for himself. By the time he graduated, that excitement had been replaced with self-doubt. Instead of being encouraged to dream big and pursue his goals, he was repeatedly told to lower his expectations, settle for less, and accept that his dreams were unrealistic. Rather than speaking encouragement into a young person during one of the most formative years of his life, the adults around him left him believing he wasn't capable of achieving more. Watching that transformation was heartbreaking. I saw the light in my brother's eyes slowly disappear. The confidence, ambition, and hope he once carried were replaced with discouragement and defeat. No family should have to spend years rebuilding the confidence that a school should have helped nurture. High school should be a place where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to believe in themselves. It should be a place where counselors, teachers, and administrators help students discover their potential, not convince them to limit it. Based on what I witnessed, I could never recommend this school to another family. If you want your child to be surrounded by adults who encourage them, believe in them, and help them pursue their goals, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. I would rather homeschool my own child than send them to an environment where their dreams are diminished instead of nurtured. It is incredibly painful to watch someone enter a school with so much promise and leave believing they are incapable of achieving the future they once imagined. No young person deserves to have their confidence or aspirations stripped away during such an important chapter of their life. read more

School allowed fire alarm to sound all the way through the night until nearly 8:30 am. Have some consideration for your neighbors.

Great school! The staff are awesome they have good curriculum they're understanding and communication is very good.

As a retired educator, I didn't visit Venice High School to check out how the school was but rather to see the Myrna Williams (a.k.a. Myrna Loy) statue in front of the main entrance. Loy, a shy student at Venice High School, was the model for a statue done by the chairman of the art department. According to the memorial plaque, the statue was unveiled in 1922. Over the years, it was vandalized and the elements took their toll. In 2000, the old statue was removed and the area remained empty until a new one was made of bronze and dedicated on April 10, 2010. The statue is now surrounded by a bunch of roses which may help to keep would be vandals away. The school may also look familiar if you pay really close attention to movies. The exterior of the school appeared as Rydell High School in the 1978 movie Grease. Another LA find! read more

This place has taught me how to be more social with people, if it weren't for the teachers at this school, I wouldn't of had any friends, but because the teachers encouraged me to talk to people, that how I ended up being more social and open to more people then I used to be, so I just wanted to give a big thank you to Venice High School for giving me this opportunity! :) read more

Review #399 None Elite Squad Venice High School is not next to Venice beach but would be cool if it was..but anyway It Ranks 602 out of 2017 California High Schools. It has a Population of 64.1% Latinos, 13.8% White Caucasian and 12.8% African Americans. n 2018, Venice Senior High ranked better than 70.2% of high schools in California. It also ranked 46th among 204 ranked high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. In 2018 the calculated Average Standard Score was 69.48... not bad.. it's still a 3 1/2 School. read more

Worst school to send your child with an IEP. They really did a horrible job her first year of high school. No child especially one who has an IEP should not fail Spanish and told they can opt out instead of getting them the help that they need. Some staff are lazy and don't do there job's. They also don't return phone calls. I hate that I sent her there! read more

This is from the viewpoint of a one time visitor only. I am not a student and definitely glad I was never a student here. I came to Venice High for a graduation and just like most there's never enough seating, whole things disorganized, parking is shitty, and the bathrooms are disgusting. At least invest in some seat protectors. No I don't want to step on the pee all over the floor . As a 5 month pregnant woman I just want a clean stall. Please someone give me a clean bathroom stall. read more

Wow, I am really the first to review my old high school! I was there from 1995-1999 and had a great experience being apart of the Foreign Language Program. It is the only LA high school that allows you to choose from a diverse array of languages such as Spanish, Japanese, French, Italian, Chinese, Russian and others. My only advice is to not take any language classes with Mrs. Quiones if you can avoid it. We also had a great swim team, which I have some great memories of. Basically, being apart of that swim team gave me a new life in high school and broke me out of being strictly in the academic mold (ie dork!) We also had a great football team the year I graduated, with JP Losman (QB of the Bills now) helming them. The campus is one of the few left in LA that isn't gated in and retains most of the classical architecture from when it was built in 1933. It definitely has a personality of its own and has been featured in such movies as "Grease" and in Britney Spears first music video. Anyway, lots of good memories, great teachers in the magnet program and a top notch high school read more

What a hidden GEM on the Westside. My daughter is getting a solid education, the teachers are fantastic, the principal genuinely cares about the students and the school, and many involved parents. Again, this is LAUSD, and not EVERYTHING is perfect, but when you have many of the faculty who have gone here, and sent their own kids here, to me that says a lot. We were thinking of private schools, but now we can save that money for college. The magnet program is very solid, and the counselors and teachers are committed to the students achievement. The more time that I spent at the school, the more I'm happy about our choice of Venice. read more

Both of our girls have really excelled at Venice. The world language magnet is excellent. Our oldest daughter was admitted into multiple UC's and private colleges last year. They both played varsity volleyball which went to the CIF championship. I graduated Venice in S63, the best year of my life except it was the start of the rest of my life. I met a beautiful girl that summer and we married one year later. We spent 47 years together until she passed away inApril 2013. Venice is where my life began and I still have fond memories of the school. I met my best buddy there and we graduated together. We are still best buddies today. Thanks Venice for all the fond memories. read more

My son is currently in 10th grade at Venice High. His classes are challenging and teachers expect a lot from him, as I would hope any quality education would. The day my son left Samohi to transfer to Venice High, was probably the lowest day of our lives. We struggled to keep our son out of Venice High for a long time. We had this erroneous idea about Venice High. Now, our worst fears had become a reality. Little did we know that this school would actually save his life. He struggled academically, emotionally, and everything else in between. In a matter of days, counselors, teachers and even classmates, were involved to make sure he would feel welcome. We were absolutely wrong about this school. His grades have dramatically improved, absolutely loves the school, his teachers, and of course his principal who has been just phenomenal. Our son has turned his life around 100% and we could not be happier. It is so much easier to get a meeting with a counselor or even the principal. I can't say anything negative about his previous school, only the fact that since it was much bigger, the services he needed were not readily available. He was just not fitting with the rest of the crowd. Since he works, he was just beyond happy to find out the many if not most of the kids at Venice, also have some type of jobs. That was the first thing he loved about the school. We are getting involved to make sure we contribute in some way to the great generosity of the school. Academically, this school is just as great as any. We can see the level of work and we are absolutely convinced that our son will be well prepared for college. We were absolutely wrong about this school and don't let that be you. It is a hidden gem and we are go glad we discovered it just in time. read more

Our daughter is a senior at the World Language Global Studies Magnet and we could not be happier. Like others have noted, the past was then; now is great. Was great, for us at least. My oldest has graduated (from WLGS) and left Venice (sniff), to attend one of the highest-ranked schools in the whole country. Her secondary education may not have been as high-powered as some, but it was more than adequate to teach her what she needs to know for her next step in higher education. The atmosphere at VHS is wonderful, the staff incredibly dedicated and the student population simply as nice as can be. She has learned so much in class, through sports, from her peers: I do not regret her time and our families' choices for a second. I think every child on the westside should attend our tremendous public district schools. We are privileged to have been a VHS family. Venice prepared our child perfectly; yours too when they attend! read more

We are very impressed with this school. The teachers' dedication and commitment to the students is amazing. The kids are a nice, forward-thinking, hard working bunch. I give VHS 5 stars because nearly 40 years later, it is STILL one of the BEST schools in the country (regardless of its National ranking). I graduated in 1980 and still keep in touch with graduates from '77 through '81. I am blessed to have had great teachers and a highly diverse group of friends that I will forever cherish. As an educator today, I can honestly say that this is the only high school that I know of that has such a strong alumni community. Facebook has made it possible for many of us to maintain communication and build upon relationships with our former peers... And, for some of us, VHS is the rock (foundation) we built our success on. The day I registered, the "Rydell High" sign was still hanging on the building. "Myrna" was proudly poised on the front lawn and I remember being so excited (as a 14-year-old entering 10th grade) to go to VHS with the friends I made at MdR. I wasn't an outstanding student, but I found my niche' singing with the Allegros and participating in team sports. Furthermore, the coaches were awesome and they encouraged me to push past my fears and to reach my potential. Even now, nearly 40 years later, participation is everything. Keep "rowing" (and I mean "row") because when you physically participate and experience all that VHS has to offer, you will eventually find your niche' and/or who you really are. You will discover the "grit" (courage and resolve; the strength of character) to do and to be anyone and anything that you want. Keep rowing! read more

My child is in his second year in the engineering magnet at Venice HS, and I have only good things to say about the school. Whatever went on there in the past is clearly over. The teachers and administration are engaged, involved, and responsive. My child has learned a huge amount and is always eager to begin the next school day. I hope that they keep up the great work that they're doing. read more

They need more security at the school too many students ditching and leaving the campus, especially the 9th graders.
