So I came here with a simple repair to my exhaust system i literally needed a couple bolts and a gasket which I had already purchased prior to coming here... They got me right in which was nice but they then tell me that I have the wrong gasket and if I was gonna buy one from them it would cost me $90.00 for a $12.00 gasket.. So I asked them if I could run to the parts store and grab it and bring it back which they said was fine.. I get back within 15 minutes and they all went on lunch so I sat there for a hour waiting for them to get back.. I notice the guy once he was done working on my car turn it on to test it to make sure it sounded fine and wasn't loud anymore... I then get a phone call from them because I was outside in the parking lot so I walk in and they proceed to tell me that the gasket wasn't sealing properly and they'd need to cut a section out and re-weld a new section in which was them straight up lying to me in hopes I'd say yes so they can charge me more... Not knowing I'm a mechanic I ask them is my car quiet again to which they replied yes so I said then why would I do what you recommend and they said nothing.. Moral of this story is this place will try to bullshit you into thinking your car needs more work than it actually does and I'd recommend going somewhere else honestly where the people are more honest.. read more

I work at a local dealership across the street from Velasquez. Over the years we've recommended some customers to bring their cars there for good reliable service. However I recently had my sister bring her daughters Jeep there to repair a wheel bearing. Though they couldn't get the work done on Saturday we left it there for them to finish on Monday. We were called around 3 that the car was ready. When I went to pick it up the car was dead and had to be jumped. No explanation or apology as to how that happened. The next morning it wouldn't start. I called them and they said they would be happy to look at it. When I told them that over the past 4 months that car had a new battery and alternator, they said that they would be happy to look into it, but didn't do anything to find out why or help beyond jumping it. Oh just let down. My car was shaking when I braked. I figured brakes and rotors. I could tell it was the front. Got front brakes and rotors changed and not long after, the same. Took it back to Velasquez and all of a sudden ALL this stuff was wrong...everything but the brakes and rotors they changed. They quoted over $4000 to fix my car! I told them I wanted to take it to the dealership because I have a warranty. Dealership said all I needed was brake pads. Not only did Velasquez didn't fix my problem, they lied and put my right front back together wrong. So sad. I always heard good reviews. Lesson learned. Do better Velasquez. read more

Took the car for a new muffler. Got it back louder than when we took it in. Took it back and they supposedly replaced something but we got it back even louder. I took it somewhere else and they took photos of the welds. It was atrocious and leaking in 4 places. They welded new to old and cut too much out so they could barely weld the remaining parts together. We paid them over $700 between the 2 "services" and had to pay someone else another $500 to fix what they had done. I do NOT recommend. read more

They use to be a great place to take your car, not anymore. I was told it would be 1-hour wait for an oil change, filters change, and to look over the brakes. It took them 3 hours to get the car done and they did not even look at the brakes! The people there now are rude and act like you're bothering them when you walk in and let them know what you need to be done to your car. If you look at all the positive reviews most are from years ago when they were amazing. If you want to wait hours upon hours for a 15-minute job or be treated like you are bothering them then this is our place, if not then I would stay away. read more

Went there with my 2005 VW Jetta, the muffle was quiet but I was getting fumes into the car. The estimate was $980.00 for a full system replacement but " the muffler would be louder ". The exhaust on my car is becoming the bane of my existence. After having the rear half rust away last year, the front half decided to be the middle child and require some attention and sort of just fell apart without warning. After consulting a friend, I heard that Farm & Fleet is the cheap place in town. However, upon my arrival, I was somewhat coldly denied service and asked to return the next day. As much as I love driving a car that sounds like a $300 dirtbike, I decided to mosey on down the road. Enter the Velasquez Mufflers and Brakes For Le$$. At first glance, I couldn't believe how lame it was that the Le$$ actually incorporated dollar signs into the name. However, I think that was probably the deciding factor that pushed me to try this place out. I drove up and met Alfredo, who was working on a car and also is the manager of the store. I instantly felt better knowing that the manager actually knows his way around a garage. They told be it would be ready in 45 minutes, so I froggered my way across Perryville, got a coffee and a muffin, and returned in 45 minutes to a repaired exhaust system. I have no idea if the price was good, but it wasn't bad, and having my car done in under an hour as promised sure beat having to wait an entire day to get a simple exhaust pipe replace. I called Wednesday about getting my brakes done and they said stop in Thursday for an estimate. I go in Thursday and wait in the lobby for 15 minutes while the receptionist or whoever she is just looks at me and keeps doing whatever she's doing in the garage. Then she comes in and says, Oh she doesn't know how long the wait will be but she's telling people it might be the next day. She was rude and didn't care. I'll take my business elsewhere. And technically I wouldn't have minded waiting a long time but her attitude ruined it for me. read more

Took our car there for a hose replacement which they quoted a price. Waited 5 days,then said the part was not available from the dealer. I told them I found the part at another dealer and they said they would have to charge $60 more(same price part) they made a mistake and I could pick up the car if I didn't like it!! Notice that their relatively high rating is based on old reviews. They're a complete waste of time and money. I took my car in for grinding brakes, they wanted to fix my shocks and wheel bearings for $1200. I stupidly let them redo the bearings for over $500 -- it did nothing. I took it to another shop that fixed the actual problem (a faulty ABS sensor) for $300 -- grinding over, car's driving great. Don't go to Velasquez -- you'll regret it. read more

Stopped into Velasquez over the lunch hour for a noisy muffler. They had a short wait so I went across the street to Tuffys and had it repaired for a couple hundred. When I pulled out of Tuffy's parking lot the check engine light came on. They quoted about $800 for sensor damage and would not stand by their work. Took the car to the dealer and they quoted $465 for repairs. After working on it for a while they messed it up bad, gave a new estimate of $1565 and charged me $65 diagnostics fee. Velasquez replaced the sensor for $108 after I provided them a $160 sensor. It would have been $40 if the dealer did not mess it up. Velasquez had to remove the exhaust manifold to replace the sensor. Velasquez saved me from buying a new car after the Toyota dealer and Tuffys trashed my car almost totaling it. Velasquez's work was fast and the price was very, very reasonable. I cannot even see or reach some of the bolts that had to be removed and replaced as under the hood of a Prius is very tight. Two truck both failed brake lines done here ! No OEM used instead they used O'Reilly auto parts short quick fix lines with adapters ( specifically asked for OEM parts ) . One truck leaked all over my driveway and on my concrete. I had to take it to another shop and they asked if I did the lines myself ( I told the no that Vazquez did them / let's just say the other shop was not surprised).I took one of my trucks back to Vazquez and they told me that they weren't going to do anything about it that's how they did brake lines. They also told me that the two guys that did the brake lines they had since been fired because Of doing faulty work . After being lied to about using OEM parts and having faulty work I will never go back to this place and I will let all my friends know just how... oh and my second truck the brakes fail while driving down the road . One of the attachments they use to connect five lines together as one burst shooting brake fluid all over the bottom of my truck and the road that I was driving down . We were on our way from Chicago to Lodi WI hauling a camper going camping when my catalytic converter broke on 39/90.. We drove to the nearest Well know Car repair center. They could not handle the job that day and recommended that we go here. With a upset 6 year old and it being 1:30 pm on a Friday our odds of getting it repaired today was diminishing. They took a look at my suv and could only hope they can get the part we need. They found the part and promised to be on the road in 4 hours. We were on the road in 2 1/2 hours with a very reasonable price on repairs.. They saved our trip and I am very thankful for the service we got. Horrible Service and work. I brought a 2001 Rodeo into them for to change out the transmission on 8-25-17. The Manager had quoted 500 dollars. I come in 8-26-17 and they are telling me its going to cost more money cause the manager hadnt told them it was a 4x4 and to make matters worse they tell me later that day that they arent even going to complete the work cause they DONT want to fill the transmission NOT CANT. So now I have to tow it somewhere where else and pay some one else to do the work that I paid them 600 to do. read more

They did a crap job - poor enough that when I looked at the part I could see, I knew it didn't look right. When I questioned them about it, they assured me it was the right part and that it was a quality part. I still didn't like the way things looked, but didn't know what else to do, so I paid their exorbitant price and drove away. Less than 1 year later - my exhaust system literally fell out, onto the road, completely rusted out! I'm lucky I didn't cause an accident with the car behind me. Clearly, they completely cheated me and didn't do the work for which I paid. Knowing that they cheat their customers, I did not, for even a second, consider going back to them. I don't know if they just didn't do the repair at all or if they put garbage parts (while they charged me for Volvo parts) - but they will never have a chance to cheat me again. Steer clear!!! brakes smoked and started on fire!!!!! this place did my wifes front brakes in april. the drivers side was smoking all the way home and started on fire!!!!. they say it was the brake line...charged me and fixed it. now 7 months later the brakes are grinding already so i stupidly took it there "only due to the year warranty" so they charged for labor but on the way to work after they fixed it the driver side smoking again and then something busted and sounds like loud screaching metal...i called them and they refuse to come get the car...told them it will barely stop and im stranded!!! the woman said i have to drive it there...told her noooo its too dangerous...she laughed at me said no and hung up. not very good english either! not sure what to do now? read more

I had taken my car there previously to have a new muffler put on. As I sat there waiting to have it fixed, 3 other customers came in to get estimates different times). I was astonished to hear the 3 different prices for the muffler's were basically all the same kind of car, and just a muffler was needed. It ranged from a $10- $20 difference........Hmmmm. how do they choose the price? As I walked in today, because my battery was not charging, I was told if I waited then there would be about a couple hour wait. I will just leave the car with you and return later then, I said. Within 10 min, I changed my mind and stated I will wait. I was told, that it would not be able to be fixed today, but they would determine the problem by 6..........What??! When asked for the owner name, the girl at the counter did not now it..........The manager was not available............Hmmmmm.........Wish I spoke Spanish to understand what they were saying. read more

This place is just about the worst place I have ever stepped foot into. First of all, they rip their customers off so let that be a fair warning. To begin with, an elderly white male was given the pricing of $250 for his repairs, after waiting for the job to be done he was told it is now $450. That was not even the worst of it. Next, I left my car there for a few days while I was out of town. I was told there was no fee for this and when I asked if there was a fee for an inspection I was told there was not. To my surprise, I was told there was nothing wrong with my car. When I came in to pick it up, I was told it would cost $80 for it staying there overnight. I then told the girl at the desk that I was not told there would be a fee for this, she then said that the $80 is for the inspection fee. What is the fee for then, for it staying there overnight or for an inspection? Either way they told me there was no fee and now were trying to trick me, when I know they said there would not be a fee previously. I also came in because my brakes had been giving out and they said there was nothing wrong with them. To my surprise, my brakes gave out about 2 days later. To top it off, I dropped my car off with 3/4 a tank of gas and when i picked it up it was less than half full. My family member also went in because the check engine light in the car was on and it kept dying. They checked this car and said there was nothing wrong with it, but then as my family member left the shop it died. What type of business are they running. Let this be a warning! read more
