We are THRILLED. we are seriously excited to get down there just for their food. We are vegetarians and sometime vegans for 20 years. We have been all over in our travels. THIS is THE best vegan food we have ever had in our lives, anywhere, hands down. Try it and even if you don't always eat vegetarian you will love it. Everyone there was extremely kind and friendly as well. See you September!

Every option is healthy and not super drenched in oil or sauces to make it edible. The curry roti and friend cauli were on point. Roti especially was SO unique and fresh tasting, I craved it multiple times after finishing. I also loved the green sauce but was so disappointed that the Caribbean aioli and jerk sauce on the menu were unavailable when we visited! In my opinion the "bowl" wasn't worth it cost wise because a lot of the toppings were scarce (only a small slice of avocado or a few peppers) and the second time I visited toppings were straight up missing. Because the flavors are so on point I overlooked those small things and came back for more 5 star food! Recommend for any casual meal if you're looking for a unique spot

I have to admit, living with a vegan hasn't been easy in the last year after she took it upon…read moreherself to change her entire eating and restrict any living animal content. While vacationing down in the carribean and dealing with limited WiFi and time constraints at each port while our ship was at dock, I made it a priority to at least score on one eatery in her favor. Yes, kudos on Yelp for pulling this one off which actually turned out to be a fun adventure. Let me explain, we had just got done eating at a Chinese restaurant in downtown Charlotte Amalie and for what ever reason after my phone had been on overdrive searching for WiFi and depleting my battery life, I finally got my chance to Yelp LMFAO. Did a search for vegan restaurants and actually found a handful. Sweet Life was the only one to answer and the person who took my call was the owner (Akashaa). I told him our situation and would be arriving via taxi. That must have struck a chord because he literally coached me to walk away from the tourist zone and flag down a cab to save a few bucks and also get away from traffic delays considering, two large cruise ships had flooded the port with travelers including us. In trying to understand his heavy cool accent, it was on once we got a taxi. Another fun fact, our taxi driver was a female driver first day on the job who didn't have a permit to operate in this zone. She was minding her own business trying to turn around and go the opposite way. Comedy, we all shared a laugh because no one really moves fast around here for anyone, it's completely laid back. Locating Sweet Life Café required over the phone navigation between two locals from the island, the dialogue was complete comedy trying to locate this address that literally took us to an alley brick road across town. There was the sign alas with Akashaa waving us down. I looked at Rosario and saw her eyes gleam in pure excitement. Menu, what menu Akashaa said, I tell what the menu is for today. I don't remember exactly what he said but the rasta pasta remained embedded in both our heads and settled. He told us his kitchen is 100% vegan and won't find, anything outside of that criteria. Our rasta pasta consisted of a bed of brown rice, veggie pasta (egg free) tofu, avocado, local seasoning and olive oil in lieu of tomato sauce. He also gave us complimentary Lentil balls coated in a raw flour base in the shape of meatballs. Our experience and stimulating conversation actually slowed down the clock for that duration as we both shared a meal and conversed The restaurant is as generic one can make it, very open air, no air condition, no ice, no WiFi, drinks served at room temperature. We decided to move from the corner table and sit at the counter after we felt comfortable and we're glad we did because that's where we got to know Akashaa better. He walked us to the first street and pointed in a direction with a specific target to make a left and continue walking. Approximately 3 miles back to the port as we jetted across town looking like lost tourist and me having to go to the restroom :) Pura vida or was it "waa gwaan" :)

When I went, they had vegan cheeseburgers and ital, both excellent. The juices were also very tasty. The mango cookies for dessert were not that great. Still an excellent meal. All that for two people was less than $40 including tip. Will visit again if ever i return to Charlotte Amalie.

I normally don't write long reviews, but this experience needed to be shared. My partner and I…read moretraveled from New York to Puerto Rico to visit his family for Thanksgiving week, and we decided to take his parents, siblings, and nephew out for a nice pre-Thanksgiving dinner. We saw Kalizo , thought it looked upscale and promising, and chose it for what was supposed to be a special family night. Instead, it turned into one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was disrespectful and careless. We were a party of six, and the host simply pointed to a section and told us to "sit over there" -- no greeting, no walk-through. He dropped the menus on the table and walked away. We sat for over 20 minutes with no one approaching us for drinks or orders. We had to stop multiple staff members just to ask, "Can we please get a waiter?" Each time we were told someone was coming, but no one did. When the waiter finally showed up, he acted rushed, uninterested, and dismissive. He kept telling us that several items we wanted were "not available," rushing us to pick something else. I ended up ordering something quick because I honestly didn't know if he'd ever come back. Meanwhile, there were only about three other tables occupied, and we noticed something very uncomfortable: The English-speaking white customers were getting A1 treatment -- constant refills, servers checking in on them, drinks delivered correctly, food synchronized -- everything. Our table, where we were mostly speaking Spanish with my partner's family, was basically ignored. Our drinks came out wrong. Refills took three or more requests. Food came out one plate at a time, so half the table was done eating before the rest of us even received our meals. My plate was missing the sides and sauces it came with. I had to physically get up and find someone to ask for them. At one point, after asking three times for a Sprite refill, I just stood up and went straight to someone and said, "Can you please just bring me a Sprite can, a to-go box, and the check?" because I had enough. The food itself? Not good. Definitely not worth the price. And the service? Terrible. A woman who worked there quietly apologized to us and said she saw everything happening, but she couldn't intervene because she wasn't a server. That says enough about the environment. Overall, it felt like we were treated differently simply because they assumed we were locals or because we were speaking Spanish. Meanwhile, the tables of English-speaking tourists got excellent service. What was supposed to be a nice family dinner turned into a frustrating, embarrassing, and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this place, especially if you're expecting fair service or celebrating something special.
