Thanks to VEG ER Indy's feeling great!
Jill H.

Our daughter's 7 month old Bernadoodle Indy had us scared. We were puppy sitting and Indy came to us having been exposed to Pneumovirus at Puppy Daycare and was on an antibiotic. Instead of getting better, she had other symptoms pop up. Our regular vet, El Paseo Animal hospital didn't have an opening for two weeks and recommended we go to VEG ER for pets on San Pablo. VEG ER gets 5+ stars ***** Responsiveness - saw us immediately ***** Quality of care top notch ***** Cleanliness ***** Staff support - they went extra mile. Called Indy's Santa Monica vet for records, showed me how to administer drugs, friendly and caring Javier (tech) and Dr. Ross Massimiano treated Indy (and calmed me down). It's been 3 days of the new treatment they prescribed and I'm thrilled to share Indy is back to her joyful Zoomie self. Thank you to VEG ER. If I can trust them with my grandpuppy, you can trust them too!!!

Zasu Puss 2017-2026

Our cat, Zasu, was having an emergency, so we googled "Emergency Vet Near Me" and came to VEG ER from our home in Palm Springs. An easy drive (at 4:30AM) and easy to find. A truly amazing facility. It is set up like a giant ER. No lobby. You can be with your pet the entire time. Dr Chung and the entire staff were kind, compassionate and professional. Sadly, our Zasu had to cross the rainbow bridge. Again, such kind and compassionate care. Her passing was quiet, calm and dignified. If you are in need of an emergency vet, I can highly recommend VEG ER.

I have to say this place was busy with cats, dogs and even a bird. Some walked in, carried or used a gurney. Issues of seizing, vomiting, diarrhea, limping, everything under the sun. They were packed, no one took breaks. Here your pets come first. Awesome team Thanks to everyone on staff.

Cloe under VEG's care

Words cannot describe how grateful we are to VEG and their staff. A 24-hour emergency vet is a must in the area and I'm so glad this place was here when our diabetic dog, Cloe, started having seizures. Compassion and empathy show in their care. VEG's open concept is incredible and you can stay with your pet all 24 hours if you want. You can be by right their side as they receive treatment. When available, staff can also prep a private room for you to be with your pet to provide a bit of peace & quiet with them. It's heartbreaking to see them suffer and know there's nothing you can do about it, but trust the professionals. I know not every family is as lucky, but I'm so, so thankful that we walked out of there with discharge papers. Our dog came home with us a couple days later. As expected, the medical bills were crazy expensive and they do want you to pay for treatment upfront (once the emergency has been stabilized). We were fortunate enough to be able to do so, until our dog was well enough to go home. They do have payment plan options through the online payment portal. Lastly, Dr. Wellard and Dr. Chung are masterclass with their approach to distraught families and they truly take the time to explain the situation, bring up next steps, and wait for any questions. The empathy for patients and families is truly appreciated. Dr. Horowitz took over Cloe's case and her confidence in our dog going home was really nice to hear. We also have to note that Amanda, Levi, and Cici were exceptional staff and so kind and careful with our baby. Amie first greeted us when we got there, and she was really attentive and a helpful resource all weekend. Brittany also brought a positive energy to the end of our visit. Cloe thanks you all!!! She has since seen her regular vet specialist for follow ups, and is back to wagging her tail again, just like normal. Well, as normal as a 14 year old dog with diabetes can be. She's doing much better and it would not have been without VEG.

We were referred by Vetco to take our pup here for emergency care. We walked in, greeted at the door, asked what symptoms our pup was dealing with, this is when full action took place of getting her to a table, getting vitals and even an ultrasound right in front of us and all happened in seconds of walking in. No waiting, no signing papers. I felt like I was transformed into a tv episode of ER. This experience was fantastic! I would highly recommend this place for pet emergency care. Staff was super nice, caring and helpful. Gave you the best service and care for your pets needs. Staff also asked if we would be staying during our pups hospitalization as visiting hours is 24 hours and just walk in and stay as long as you'd like. Wow, just outstanding. Fairly new being open for 2 years, open concept care. Glad we came here and got this experience as it is like no other.

Took our dog in due to a neurological emergency at 1:00 a.m.. The staff was very compassionate and helpful.. especially the vet. Only reason for four stars instead of five is that the technician had a hard time getting an IV line in her paw and she was really stressing, so we had to ask for a sedative so she could calm down. Then they kept trying to have me fill out information on the app that was not working, as I'm watching my dog suffer on the table. It's all just a blur now but in the end she ended up not surviving whatever was happening in her brain and we had to have her put down. The vet was very compassionate and gentle and that was important as we said our goodbyes to our beloved 15-year-old baby. I thank God for this place because I have no idea what we would have done without them being open at that time.

I had the worst experience here. Dr Li was almost like a car salesman. Gave me an estimate over $2500 for my dog that was vomiting. Went to Dr Butchko the next day and everything was taken care of for under $500. Never again!

Yes, the building is nice, modern and clean but what really makes this place amazing is the staff that work here. I'll forever be grateful for the support and compassion they showed me during one of my hardest moments in life. Rewind: I'm actually not a local and was traveling here from out of town. I was staying in the desert for a few weeks so I brought my dog and cat down with me. In the most stressful of scenarios (traveling and being on vacation) my 13-year old cat fell ill almost immediately after we got into town. After a few days of her seeming not like herself and not eating, I brought her here to the urgent care. A few hundred dollars later and testing it was confirmed that my little one was dying (This wasn't a complete shock as she had been diagnosed with kidney disease a year before with a prognosis of only a few weeks to months to live.) You just never expect to be away from home when something like this happens.... The biggest blessing was that the doctor and techs encouraged me that I could take her home to have a couple more days to process the decision of putting her down/to see if there could be any improvements (even though it wasn't likely.) Having those extra couple days to say goodbye made the process so much more bearable and assured me that I wasn't making a rash decision... when you see your pet declining you know when it's time. I was just really grateful for how the team was so compassionate and flexible with me as I made this decision. While they were all professional, they felt like friends when I needed them most. Bringing my baby back to be euthanized on a holiday weekend was traumatic, but the team handled everything with grace and compassion. They have a special room where you get to say goodbye to your baby and it is very tranquil and lovely overall when dealing with such a tragedy. At the very minimum you would hope for a safe space when enduring something so difficult and they definitely created that....Again the team couldn't have been lovelier. They see these kinds of things every day, but they made me feel like I mattered. The whole process was expensive, but at the end of the day I would do anything for my animals so it just comes with the territory. Looking back, it was worth every penny to make an informed and educated decision and with how well everything was handled from start to finish that I'm so grateful for this team. I hope you find yourself here under less painful circumstances, but I am here to say that this is an amazing urgent care and the staff are A+.

I arrived at 6:45 and was third in line. If paperwork is done before, it's quick. However, some options are offered without explanation. Since it's online and doesn't have explanation, I didn't select the $109 extra. I did add IV fluids, which I know helps the healing process. I also opted for sedatives, since the body heals faster when it's not in pain and rest is possible. The incision is outstanding. It's small and aligned perfectly. I'm impressed! I was told to expect a call between 1 and 3. If nobody called I was told to show up at 3. I was getting worried with no call. What if something happened? I did select DNR. I headed to pick her up, a bit anxious. I was early, but soon other people, who I saw drop their pet off in the morning, were there and hadn't received a call either. That was a relief. Whew. I waited and they slowly began to bring the pets out, after a vet came out and gave a helpful post-op care speech. At 3:45 my little one came out, looking great. It's been a couple days. She's reading well and healing great. I give high marks. I pulled one star for the worry. A call would have been so appreciated. An "out of surgery and doing well" call would have been such a relief. I was so worried that they were going to tell me something bad happened. Pricing is reasonable, staff is polite, and the place is clean. Parking is ample too.

Being on disability there was no option, or recommendation for discounted help. Leaving me distraught that I couldn't help my baby. The prescriptions that they offered was one was $80 the other was 45 for 4 days.(Which I found this one at Costco for $30) Their help that they said they offered for the weekend was at the shelter for euthanasia, which I was not permitted to be with him in his passing, which was not at all acceptable. I did see the physician on the following Tuesday, wish they could not do anything for him. And referred back to the original veterinary at Samaritan's. It's a shame that they didn't get back with me on the day that he was so distraught and I knew it was the time for his passing I called it at 10:00 in the morning called again at 12 :00 with no response he passed at 1 :00. In my arms. I hope my baby understands that I did try to do everything I could for him. This will haunt me for the rest of my life, not knowing weather he understood. He was my familiar, animal spirit guide my baby boy. Any further discussions that they want to have with me would not matter they couldn't say anything that would make it better. It happened, therefore in my heart I hope that no one else goes through this.

I was so scared about them having scary anxious feelings when it came time for euthanasia. But after a lot of excitement which Dr.Nicole was gracious about, my babies settled down and sat with us. I am grateful for the conversations we had. We were never rushed, or judged. She was so empathetic. It was such a devastatingly sad, surreal experience. Neal had started to deteriorate so rapidly this year. His sister Sara had started to not be able to hide how ill she felt. I don't think I would have ever been ready to let them go. As I look back at my pictures and videos it's easier to see that they were both ill. It was so easy to look past it when they were here. I'd compare them to the pictures and just add accommodations for their comfort. Because their smiles, the love in their eyes...the tail wags were still there, different, but there. It was so hard to admit it was time. All the anxiety that had been eating away at me for months washed away and was replaced with a bottomless sadness and relief that my babies were no longer suffering. They were two amazing small little dogs who left an unfathomable chasm in my heart. The after care was also above and beyond. I can't recommend them enough. First, she was hospitalized for 24 hours. While there are still some things that I am trying to understand, the IV support made a big difference in her health. My understanding is that this is very important for cats with pancreatis. After going some time without eating, I could tell that she felt better after each treatment with fluids. I have not yet had a follow-up visit with my local vet to check Bastu's PrecisionPSL values. However, from two follow-up visits to CAEC, I can say that Bastu's SDMA values have returned to normal (after she was prescribed felimazole, and successful delivery of that medication for 3 days lead to more severe problems). The spike in BUN values from 21 (before felimazole) to 72 (after felimazole, and then decreased diet to the point of not eating any food) was reversed to 13 after treatment at CAEC (a little below normal, instead of very high above normal). While I am looking into more details (such as waiting to see if my Bastu is capable of returning to normal health) before following the procedures on the FDA website (https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/report-problem/how-report-animal-drug-and-device-side-effects-and-product-problems), my understanding is that my cat has a pre-existing kidney problem. The elevated T4 levels (used to define a diagnosis for hyperthydroidism) represented the body's defense for those kidney problems - high T4 can cause problems in itself, but the underlying kidney problems can also cause additional problems. Thank you very much - while improvement has been slow, Bastu and I certainly appreciate the help within the last week!
