My dog was bitten by another dog on a Friday night at 7pm. His dew claw was half torn off and quite bloody. They checked us in and then for an hour ignored us, despite the fact there were 25 staff members, many of them sitting and staring into space. When I flagged one down, they told me my wait would be at least 7 hours. I left and took my dog to another emergency vet 2 miles away where they saw my dog immediately and performed the surgery under sedation in 1.5 hours. VEG was a nightmare. read more

This is my second review of this location of VEG. It was finally time to say goodbye to my dear Scrappy, the dog that got me through the death of my husband not long ago. I'm now a 80 year old widow. Actually it was Christ Day when my husband past. Scrappy was there for me when no one else was, however, he started having really bad seizures, went blind because of cataracts and his quality of life was declining fast. I knew exactly who to call. You will never find more compassionate people than VEG. I was put in a private room with Scrappy on my lap, not a cold table. It had low lighting, soft music playing and candles and a jar of Hershey Kisses. No dog should ever go to heaven without tasting chocolate. Let me spend all the time I wanted with him. They gave me a buzzer and said to push it when I was ready. When the vet came in, she sat on the floor and gave him a sedative. about a minute later she gave him his final shot and stayed until he was gone. They let me stay with him as long as I wanted. I had to bring my orange tabby, Jinx, in for an anal gland abscess, and the visit far exceeded my expectations! Naturally, bringing our pets to an emergency vet can cause anxiety and fear, but the team at VEG ER for Pets in PD made me feel right at home and completely at ease. Dr. Posada and the technicians/nurses handled my cat's situation with care, consideration, and a calm approach, which made the entire experience feel much easier for me. I was apprehensive about bringing Jinx here because I knew about the "open-concept" room layout, and he had gotten out once before and gone missing for five weeks before I thankfully found him. However, once I arrived, the facility felt very safe and secure, and the staff even offered me a private room, which I thoroughly appreciated. I was able to be with my cat every step of the way and even watch his procedure being performed. Dr. Posada was very informative and kind throughout the initial diagnosis, procedure, explaining the aftercare, potential risks, and answering all of my questions with patience and care. It is so refreshing to have had such a positive experience at an emergency vet clinic, especially since my past experiences at other locations have been filled with nothing but panic and fear. We brought our 13yo Shih Tzu in last night (this morning) after noticing gastric distress that included passing rocks/sand, etc. They answered my call immediately and were ready for us when we arrived. Dr. Posada and Brandie were incredibly kind, as was the entire team in the ER. I so appreciated the open concept and that we were able to be by our little guy's side for everything...except the XRays, of course. We even sat there during the endoscopy where they removed the rock that had lodged in his stomach. The entire operation is run very well, and I was blown away by how much attention we received even with multiple other patients in need. The waiting areas are very comfortable and set up perfectly for your comfort during very tense and long hours. That all being said, I hope we never have to see any of these people again. (Haha) However, if the need for emergency vet care ever arises again, I will immediately head for VEG. Thank you all...so so so so so much. And, Emmett thanks you, too!! read more

Dr. Horwitz was far from professional during our visit. She was dismissive of my pet's needs and did not thoroughly explain the diagnosis or treatment plan. She made comments such as, "Since money is a concern for you," which felt insensitive and inappropriate, especially considering I had already agreed to a bill of approximately $1,500. What stood out most was that her focus seemed to be on payment rather than patient care. In an already stressful and emotional situation, I expected more compassion and empathy. Additionally, Dr. Horwitz loudly shouted across the hospital, "DID THEY PAY?" regarding a man leaving with birds. Everyone in the lobby turned to look at him. After a veterinary technician responded that he had paid, Dr. Horwitz simply laughed it off. I found this behavior unprofessional and embarrassing for the man involved. Overall, I would strongly recommend requesting a different veterinarian if possible. Pet owners deserve clear communication, compassion, and empathy, especially when facing a serious illness with their pet. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Horwitz lacked all three. read more

I sincerely hope no pet owner ever has to experience what I went through at this hospital. My dog had been bitten by a much larger dog that left significant wounds, I was worried to death as any pet owner when their fur babies are sick. I felt like instead of finding compassion, and ethical emergency medicine, I had walked into a high-pressure sales campaign. The moment I declined a $650 X-ray, the pressure campaign intensified which went on for more than an hour. One by one, staff members, veterinarians, and finally the hospital director/owner all took turns hard-selling me on authorizing the X-ray which seemed to be used as a precursor to push for more unnecessary expensive diagnostics. After the 4th round of relentless argumentation and persuasion, I requested the 4th staff member to not get any more people to come and talk to me about X-rays, against my clear request, they still sent out the "heavy weight" director/owner as the marathon finisher to pressure me. Finally, I said to the director: "I am his owner, I am an adult, I have the right to make decisions for my pet's care." That should have ended the conversation, but the director even went on so far to tell me that if I left with my dog without X-ray, he could "lose his license" and that I could "sue him." I told him, "I guarantee you I won't sue you," and offered to sign a disclaimer accepting full responsibility for my decision and to release the hospital from any legal responsibility. The director then turned to his staff, shouted "Transfer!!" as if he's the one with all power to override my decision regarding the treatment of my pet. I said "Wait a second, do I get a say in what I want to do regarding the medical treatment of my dog?" It was met with silence. After 5 rounds of marathon campaign with no success, they finally left me alone. The point was not the ridiculous excuses that if the director/owner granted my wish to let me and my dog leave the hospital without doing the $650 X-ray "he will lose his license" or that I will "sue him," but doing an X ray can be used as a powerful and convincing tool for the hospital to frighten pet owners even more to push for THOUSANDS $$$$ more in expensive and unnecessary diagnostics and treatments. Dr. Randy Posada even went as far as telling me to "be prepared for end of life" arrangement for my dog because I refused their pressure to authorize the X-ray they tried so hard to sell. As for the offer to perform the radiographs at no charge mentioned in the Dr. Michael Hyder's reply below, I specifically asked Dr. Posada who was the attending vet to my dog about it. He explained that the "free" offer applies only to taking the radiographs. The interpretation and analysis of those radiographs would still cost approximately $600. In other words, while the imaging itself may be advertised as free, obtaining the diagnostic information that gives the radiographs any clinical value still carries a substantial fee. The complimentary snacks, bottled water, coffee, and tea displayed in the waiting room mean absolutely nothing. They create the appearance of a caring hospital while terrified pet owners are being scared and pressured into authorizing thousands of dollars in diagnostics during the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I left feeling disheartened and disgusted by the cold calculation, manipulation, and coercion. I would never return, and I would never recommend this hospital to any pet owner. If you go because it's after business hours and no regular pet hospitals are open, be prepared to be pressured into accepting a $650 X-ray and $600 blood test even for a dog sneeze. UPDATE: Reply to Director/owner Dr. Michael Hyder Dear Dr. Hyder, I disagree with your characterization of the events surrounding Mickey's visit. Your letter states that veterinarians must be able to communicate their concerns, risks, recommendations, and limitations so that clients can make informed decisions. I fully agree. At no point did I refuse to hear Dr. Posada or your recommendations. I listened, asked what information the radiographs were expected to provide, and how the findings would specifically alter Mickey's treatment plan. Despite asking multiple times how the results would affect Mickey's treatment specifically, I never received a direct answer. That is the information necessary for informed consent. You also told me that if I declined the radiographs, you or the hospital could lose your veterinary license and that I could later sue you. I ask that you identify the medical, legal, or professional basis for those representations. Is it VEG's policy to advise clients that a veterinarian's license is jeopardized whenever an owner declines a recommended diagnostic test? If not, what basis did you make those representations to me? read more

Our first experience there. Was absolutely incredible. Everyone is so friendly and just about the client experience. Dr. Morey was kind and kept working until she found our sweet Golden Retriever, Harley had a UTI. Also, an ear infection. Harley was happy the whole time, wagging his tail during the tests. The tests were professional and quick. Harley hardly minded. We left with antibiotics and drops for his ears. We've been to several vets over the years, here in the valley, and in Orange County and I have to say this place is top notch! This will be our go to place. read more

Words cannot describe how grateful we are to VEG and their staff. A 24-hour emergency vet is a must in the area and I'm so glad this place was here when our diabetic dog, Cloe, started having seizures. Compassion and empathy show in their care. VEG's open concept is incredible and you can stay with your pet all 24 hours if you want. You can be by right their side as they receive treatment. When available, staff can also prep a private room for you to be with your pet to provide a bit of peace & quiet with them. It's heartbreaking to see them suffer and know there's nothing you can do about it, but trust the professionals. I know not every family is as lucky, but I'm so, so thankful that we walked out of there with discharge papers. Our dog came home with us a couple days later. As expected, the medical bills were crazy expensive and they do want you to pay for treatment upfront (once the emergency has been stabilized). We were fortunate enough to be able to do so, until our dog was well enough to go home. They do have payment plan options through the online payment portal. Lastly, Dr. Wellard and Dr. Chung are masterclass with their approach to distraught families and they truly take the time to explain the situation, bring up next steps, and wait for any questions. The empathy for patients and families is truly appreciated. Dr. Horowitz took over Cloe's case and her confidence in our dog going home was really nice to hear. We also have to note that Amanda, Levi, and Cici were exceptional staff and so kind and careful with our baby. Amie first greeted us when we got there, and she was really attentive and a helpful resource all weekend. Brittany also brought a positive energy to the end of our visit. Cloe thanks you all!!! She has since seen her regular vet specialist for follow ups, and is back to wagging her tail again, just like normal. Well, as normal as a 14 year old dog with diabetes can be. I was grateful to find a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital available when our dog needed urgent care. Upon arrival, the facility itself was very impressive, modern, and well-equipped. One thing I appreciated most was that Dr. Langeness was willing to take the time to answer our questions and address our concerns. As worried pet owners facing an unexpected emergency, that level of communication and patience meant a great deal to us. Dr. Langeness was the veterinarian initially assigned to our dog. Although it took some time for her to come examine him, once she did, she was extremely thorough in her evaluation. She carefully assessed our dog's condition and worked with us to develop a treatment plan that was both medically appropriate and financially realistic. Emergencies are stressful enough, especially when they happen unexpectedly and involve significant expenses, so her willingness to discuss options and explain the situation was greatly appreciated. The veterinary technicians, particularly Jada and Mary, were outstanding. They were kind, attentive, informative, knowledgeable, compassionate, professional, and helped make a difficult situation much easier to navigate. Unfortunately, our experience changed after our dog was admitted overnight. The level of care did not seem consistent with what we observed while we were present. When we returned the following morning, we noticed that one of our dog's legs was severely swollen. We later discovered that the IV catheter had become displaced, causing IV fluids to infiltrate the surrounding tissue rather than entering the bloodstream. What concerned us most was that this issue had apparently gone unnoticed and undocumented until we pointed it out ourselves. By that time, Dr. Horwitz was the attending veterinarian. Regrettably, our interactions with her were very disappointing. We found her to be impersonal, dismissive, and far from professional. She seemed irritated by our questions and concerns and made little effort to hide her frustration. As worried pet owners, we were simply trying to understand our dog's condition and treatment, but we were made to feel as though our questions were unreasonable. Compassion and communication are essential qualities in emergency medicine, and unfortunately, we did not experience either during our interactions with her. Additionally, she never checked in with us to ask how our dog was doing or address our concerns. I found her insecure, arrogant and condescending. The only reason I can think why she dismissed our questions was because she didn't have the answers to them. Please ask for a different Dr!! Another concern was the overall cleanliness of the facility. After our visit, our dog developed a rash, which raised questions about sanitation practices. During our time there, we never observed any cleaning staff working in the areas we visited. While I cannot say with certainty that the rash was related to the facility, it is something worth mentioning. Overall, I believe this hospital has some excellent staff members Like Dr. Langaness and techs Mary and Jada who genuinely care about animals and their owners. However, there appear to be issues with staffing levels, consistency of care, communication, and facility maintenance. The company would benefit from hiring more veterinarians and technicians, ensuring employees are adequately supported and compensated, and prioritizing compassionate patient and client care. While I appreciate the help we received during an emergency, there is definitely room for improvement. read more

We were referred by Vetco to take our pup here for emergency care. We walked in, greeted at the door, asked what symptoms our pup was dealing with, this is when full action took place of getting her to a table, getting vitals and even an ultrasound right in front of us and all happened in seconds of walking in. No waiting, no signing papers. I felt like I was transformed into a tv episode of ER. This experience was fantastic! I would highly recommend this place for pet emergency care. Took our dog in due to a neurological emergency at 1:00 a.m.. The staff was very compassionate and helpful.. especially the vet. Only reason for four stars instead of five is that the technician had a hard time getting an IV line in her paw and she was really stressing, so we had to ask for a sedative so she could calm down. Then they kept trying to have me fill out information on the app that was not working, as I'm watching my dog suffer on the table. It's all just a blur now but in the end she ended up not surviving whatever was happening in her brain and we had to have her put down. The vet was very compassionate and gentle and that was important as we said our goodbyes to our beloved 15-year-old baby. I thank God for this place because I have no idea what we would have done without them being open at that time. read more

I want to applaud the Veterinary Emergency Group staff for their immediate, professional, thorough, and compassionate care for my 14 year old Shar Pei/ Pit mix Sophie. Her health had declined quickly, and I hesitated taking her to a vet due to her previous traumatic experiences at the vet, which resulted in her having a meltdown and extremely aggressive. They listened to my concerns during my initial phone call, and immediately attended to her upon my arrival at 1100 pm. At the late hour they had 7-8 staff on site, including a vet, which was impressive. The facility is similar to a human ER, with a triage type of system and high-end equipment. As soon as Sophie arrived, without hesitation, numerous assistants were taking her vitals, doing an ultrasound, and giving her comprehensive care. When she started showing aggression, they professionally asked if I could step back, to see if Sophie was trying to protect me. As soon as I removed myself from her sight, she calmed down and she let them work on her. I wish I knew this before, with other vet attempts. After checking her vitals, and an ultrasound, the attending vet throughly explained Sophie's situation, and gave me my options with empathy and kindness. After a thorough discussion with the vet, it was determined Sophie's medical issue was not reversible, and she could not be made more comfortable. She was in pain, and with great difficulty I made the humane decision. The staff was very empathetic and kind, and explained what would go on during her euthanasia. They gave us a private room, and let us take as much time as we needed. This is never an easy situation or decision, but all the staff was very respectful and kind. Considering the immediate quality care Sophie received, the high-tech facility, I felt the pricing was fair and appropriate. I hope for no more emergencies, but I would not hesitate to recommend VEG. read more

I call back AGAIN and call gets answered by a voicemail stating they are busy and to leave a message !!! Mind you this is an emergency facility needless to say I took my dog to another facility who advised me of my pets most critical condition which ultimately she did not make it what's unfortunate VEG advertises they are there for emergent care but they unfortunately could not answer the phone or if they did you were put on hold !!! Very unfortunate and would definitely not recommend going there I understand people are busy but at least that should have been discussed on the 1st time Makayla picked up the phone !!!! Do better because there are people out there that deserve adequate care for their animals with serious conditions that we hold deeply to our hearts !!! read more

Dr. Hsu and nurse Luz were extraordinary. From the moment we walked in, they were calm, compassionate, and professional. What meant the world to me was that they let me stay with my dog every step of the way, right up until surgery. That kind of care is rare and it made all the difference. I never felt alone, and more importantly, neither did he. I'm so grateful this clinic was right across the street when I needed it most. When I called and inquired about the cost and explained my situation, they told me to bring her to them. I took her in , they immediately put me in a room with her, a vet came in and examined her, confirming the worst. I signed some paperwork expecting maybe a discount. I had to take my 17 year old cat somewhere becausing he was actively dieing and starting to suffer. My local vet was unavailable. My daughter suggested bringing him here. MAC and I were escorted to a comfort room immediately and was seen immediately. No treatment or tests were warranted, they knew.as did I. They made MAC as comfortable as he could be while reassuring me. The staff was so caring, comforting, informative compassionate and understanding. Thry made MACs last moments the best they could be. Dr. Chung came in very quickly and listened to my concerns, she actually spent time with me and Addy. I have not had that experience at an ER vet in years! Amanda was our vet tech, who was also amazing. Since Addy is a big girl,, I watched people work with her in x_ray (i was able to watch) and they xrayed her entire body to look for suspicious cancer cells and did a full blood panel. I expected them to keep adding on additional charges, but NO! I paid exactly the original quote. Both Dr. Chung and Amanda discussed the results and after care throughly. Super easy checkout. Dr. Chung will be calling with the radiologistfindings in an hour. The only thing I wish they had was a partnership with Trupanion. Awesome experience! read more

Our fur baby Asher (3 week old orphaned pup) was struggling with his breathing and unfortunately needed to be put down. It was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do but the staff here was truly the best. Made such a difference to have people who care about what they do and how you feel instead of how much they will make out of you. Super blessed to have came across this place. I've been to VEG in Palm Desert multiple times since they opened, and we were actually one of their first patients. It's a very different experience from a typical vet because of their open concept style. While it's nice if you can get a private room, there's a good chance you'll be out in the open lobby area near operating tables with other animals being treated. Our first couple of visits were good, albeit pricey. However, our most recent experience was incredibly disappointing and will be our last. My partner took in our 13 year old senior dog because he had a swollen left leg. Check in was immediate, and there was a very quick initial visit with a male doctor who asked a few questions, and then we never saw him again. She sat waiting for about two hours before anyone returned with next steps. After the long wait, a new vet came in and essentially did the same thing, though with a more thorough look. During that exam, she mentioned the swelling could be related to the lymphatic system and did not seem concerned about a bone issue. When they finally came back with a plan, we were sent a link to an estimate for over $2,600 purely for diagnostics. Treatment was obviously unknown, so not included in that number. My partner called me to discuss it, and the reality is that we just did not feel comfortable to drop that much on testing alone. My partner asked if there were other options, but there was never a feeling of starting with the most basic tests and going from there. They did not want to budge from their protocol, which is when you start to feel more like a dollar sign and less like a pet parent. When she shared our financial concerns, the nurse actually had the nerve to say we weren't going to get cheaper care elsewhere. The communication became noticeably tense, and we felt heavily judged. We finally agreed to a reduced diagnostic plan and waited another two hours. They ran blood tests and an ultrasound, which they said came back without any major concerns. They ended up doing even fewer tests than we had agreed to pay for, but the entire process felt like a battle just to advocate for our dog and our finances. Because we declined their maximum diagnostic plan, they basically said they couldn't help him since they "couldn't do the full workup." They even had the audacity to question his quality of life. Ultimately, after 6.5 hours, my partner left with a bill for over a thousand dollars (about half the cost of their initial estimate), some pain meds, an antibiotic, and absolutely no real answers. We are left with just uncertainty, a medicated dog with a swollen leg, and regret over the visit. We will not be returning. read more
