My dog's paw bandaged up after she tore a nail off the quick, replete with holiday decorations.
    Pamela A.

I have been blessed with pets for most of the four decades I have lived here. As such I have been to multiple emergency animal hospitals in the area. I've had good experiences at most and great experiences at a few. VEG blew them away, hands down. Firstly, their intake procedure is very quick because they assume people want to get their pets treated ASAP. Secondly, they took us back to a large examination room where everything was done. No taking my dog away to draw blood. I got to stay with her - and she has separation anxiety - the whole time. I was also allowed to help as much as I wanted. Which was a lot. My dog is my registered Emotional Support Animal so me staying with her was extremely important. And let me tell you, Dr. Boyer and vet techs Ray and Amber were angels. So compassionate, so gentle with my dog, and so understanding of my emotional state. I cannot recommend these people highly enough. They're brilliant. And look: my doggie's bandage has a reindeer on it.

Fergie ready to cross over Rainbow Bridge

In my unfortunate journey to cross Fergie over the Rainbow Bridge, I did a lot of inquiries . Some were reasonable, some were ridiculous & greedy money gougers but Thank God I found the right one. Veg ER for Pets. They are open 24/7 , local in the Southpark area of Charlotte & were kind , considerate & gentle in this journey. Death is hard enough but when one has to purposely do it to something one Loves, it is much much harder.. . Anyway I cannot say enough about Veg ER for pets. ..

I came here on a Sunday afternoon with my dog who ate a corn cob I chose them after I called around to a number of places in north Charlotte and everyone was slammed and another place recommended them. The staff were sooo nice upon entering. I have a reactive dog who doesn't do great in stressful situations or around other dogs. There isn't really a dedicated private space upon entering if you have a reactive dog. So if you're like us beware... upon telling them about her reactivity they let us stay in our car and did check in with us outside to minimize her stress which I so appreciated! For it being a Sunday afternoon I think they got to us as fast as they could being that it was a a time sensitive issue. I was out in about 2 hours and they quickly induced vomiting to prevent the obstruction. When leaving they helped me navigate my reactive dog out the back door so it wouldn't stress anyone out. I only wish they had more private rooms and spaces!

I cannot express enough gratitude to this team. My dog got bitten by another dog and required 13 stitches. It truly was one of the worst days of my life, my dog is my whole world. The team was deeply empathic and was incredibly detailed with explaining every little thing my dog would experience for her procedures and how I needed to care for her, and I've never felt more cared for in any medical facility - animal or human. I especially want to shout out nurse Elizabeth for her kindness. VEG Charlotte Team, I know what an emotional toll this sort of work takes, and I am deeply grateful for each of you. Thank you.

I took in a 4 month old puppy and called myself being a responsible pet owner. Took him to get groomed. the groomed said something is not right w your dog, so I made an immediate appt w pet smart and he had a severe worm infestation and blood count was fately low. Thid now explained why he slept and was so weak and collapsing. I called around several places and I felt so at ease w VEG. When I took Snickers in they let us stay w him the whole time. The staff was professional, compassionate and knowledgable. Updating us at every chance. Went in at 11 pm and Snickers was ready to go by 7am. They us a high and low estimate and explained why and in the end it was lower than the low estimate, which made the experience even better. I love the staff there for saving Snickers. I had only had this puppy 5 days when this all happened. They assured my mind that was going on before I got him. I can't thank them enough. They processed my bill a little later too, to allow my neighbors to donate.

While we could not determine what happened to him earlier in the day we agreed 24 hour monitoring and additional tests were needed as a mass was discovered during his physical exam. When I arrived, the Charlotte location had no clue or backstory of why I was there. After re-explaining the situation and expecting to drop my dog off for monitoring and additional tests, I proceeded to wait for 3 hours and never spoke to a vet. After subjecting myself and my dog to 7 hours in a small exam room, I decided it was best to get him home and find somewhere else to continue treatment. For what its worth, the first location was $370 for a physical exam, minimal blood panel for electrolyte levels and minor things, as well as some sort of low level ultrasound which was not sophisticated to determine what the mass was the vet found in the physical exam. I want to add that I'm sure there were other emergencies going on and I'm empathetic and understanding that other animals needed care and not just my own. The lack of communication between locations and their inability to essentially transfer him as it was explained to me was very frustrating. Considering I did not see a vet in the three hours I was there, I did not have much confidence that my dog would actually be monitored very well.

When we arrived, Stella was very weak and near the end. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, staff members immediately came outside to help carry her in so she wouldn't suffer any more than she already was. That simple act of kindness meant more to us than they probably realize. They were also able to keep her comfortable long enough for our family to say our goodbyes, which we will always be grateful for. During the entire process, everyone we encountered--from the receptionists to the technicians to the doctors--was compassionate, patient, and incredibly caring. I'm not someone who typically writes reviews, but when you are faced with something this heartbreaking, the way people treat you truly matters. The entire team treated Stella and our family with dignity and compassion, and they made us feel like Stella mattered just as much to them as she did to us. Thank you for going above and beyond during one of the most difficult moments a pet family can experience. We will always appreciate the kindness you showed to Stella and to us.

CVS sent us back home with our cat while he had a 105 degree fever without really suggesting that he stay to be monitored. The vet at CVS mentioned that he could have FIP and said they would not prescribe meds to treat it until the lab results got back (4 days at the earliest bc it was a long weekend), assuring us that he would be okay through the weekend. He was getting worse so we took him back and wanted to keep him there the next night overnight, but there was no vet on call to care for him, and the vet did not seem to think that transferring him elsewhere was necessary. Our cat died later that night from a seizure at a different ER who had just diagnosed him with FIP and planned to start treatment. While CVS is not the only vet at fault here, I was highly highly disappointed in their lack of urgency for our cat as well as their lack of knowledge concerning FIP. I would not take your cat here because it does not seem like they have a great understanding of when a cat is stable enough to go home. For comparison, by the time we got to the urgent care, they were alarmed that any vet would let him out of their sight until his fever had reduced substantially for 24 hours. My biggest regret is not taking him to a more knowledgable and careful ER as soon as they sent us home with him the first time.

I had an overall negative experience yesterday at this emergency vet…read more First, we waited for nearly an hour before anyone came in. I understand they were doing a procedure, but not even a vet tech came by. I had to request a dish of water from front desk staff. Second, there were a lot of errors made in documentation. Wrong breed, age, and symptoms. Them marking her as nearly 5 years younger than she is, is a heinous oversight. Third, she was in tremendous pain and didn't tolerate the ultrasound. Instead of offering to sedate her and do it, they just stopped. I now have to pay more, a lot more, for a sedated US Friday to ensure nothing has been overlooked. Forth, there was a lot of ambiguity over what is actually happening; gall bladder, liver, and/or back pain. After being told gall bladder, it was retracted and dx as back pain, which was retracted and then liver. This did NOT breed confidence in the provider. Her "looking things up" on her phone over what's normal and abnormal for the gall bladder degraded this confidence further. Fifth, no dosages for pain medication were annotated on the discharge sheets. I stated I had gabapentin for her at home. Considering the degree of pain she's in, telling me how much to dose her seems slightly important here. Sixth, I called my normal vet before even leaving the parking lot. I was given a different interpretation/analysis of her abnormal labs which were contradictory to what I was told here. After a little research, the truth is far more in line with what my vet said. Seventh, provider stated she'd give me a list of good specialists and make a referral for me. She did not follow through on either. Eighth, no mention was made on the fact that she was just on an anti-inflammatory that can cause liver damage and the timing, as it turned out, aligned. Ninth, No mention of antibiotics for possible infection was mentioned, nor endocrine diseases, yet were annotated on the summary sheet. If she had asked, I would have told her she was worked up 1 year ago for those endocrine diseases. Tenth, I brought her home and found a flea on her. I did call and inform them. Considering I now have to try get a proper diagnosis with other veterinary professionals, I'm wondering what exactly I just paid $880 for. My dog was not adequately cared for and they should have offered to sedate her and perform a thorough US. I will not return to this facility. Everyone was nice, but my dog is still in pain and I still don't know what is actually wrong with her. Unacceptable.

I wish I had…read moreread the reviews before convincing my husband to take our cat there on the night before Christmas Eve at 8:30 pm. It's unreal the reviews are either stellar or terrible with no in between. Our Cat, 7 yrs old, healthy, had sudden onset of rapid breathing. We arrived and were met instantly by a vet tech that observed her breathing and were taken right into a room after paying the $195 fee. The tech came in, asked a series of questions and took her back to be examined. About an hour later he came in to update and discuss blood work and xrays etc. which we approved. Not quite 3 hours later I was getting fairly loud in the room regarding the lack of communication, when the vet finally came in to discuss further treatment (after the front desk receptionist came to let us know that they were leaving) remaining on oxygen overnight, results of bloodwork and X-rays, possibly needing an ultrasound. At approximately 1:30 am we were given and estimate and left a $2400 deposit under the impression we would be back to pick her up Christmas Eve morning possibly. 11:30 am Christmas Eve, my husband called, no ultrasound had been done yet, no update, just "we've had several emergencies." My husband called back about 1.5 hours later and got the same response. It's Christmas Eve, yes we totally understand that emergencies don't know holidays. But SOME sort of communication would be appreciated. I called back and expressed my concern about communication and ultrasound still not being done at 1:30, wanted answers, yes I get it, emergencies, but our cat was an emergency last night and nothing is happening. We were told she was second in line and to come in an hour. Headed there and on the way the doctor finally called instead of the reception staff that has obviously been taught to play the emergency card every time someone calls. I don't buy it. It was explained that she was still not well enough to come home as we were almost pulling into the parking lot 30 min from home. We understood and appreciated an informed update FINALLY! We received another update late that evening and one in the early morning on Christmas Day. GREATLY APPRECIATED. The final text said she's doing better off the oxygen and we will let you know when to come get her. That never happened, we called about 2 pm while preparing Christmas dinner and entertaining only to be told " oh, she's been ready to pick up". I rush down to get her, pay the additional charges and we're told to sit down and wait for her to be brought out and talked to about instructions for home. They weren't sure what (bag/crate) I brought her in, 25 min later bring her out without the warm fuzzy blanket that I had in her crate, I tell her white fuzzy oddly shaped blanket, she comes out with blue square sheet , I mean I'm done at this point. Says it maybe be in the wash they will call me, I laugh under my breath. Good news is the cat is ok, but this place, horrible communication, passive misinformed reception staff, rude doctor (the night of). Overall experience not good. Let me rephrase, customer service horrible. Time management horrible. The cat is ok. So somewhere back there someone did the right thing. Doesn't excuse the service. I'll never take an animal there again.
