I LOVE THIS PLACE. The last time I did any kind of serious exercising was about 5 years ago so I was pretty nervous my first day at VCF; I had no idea what to expect. I did the one week trial and have been going at least 5 days a week since then (It's been 4months). Everyone is very nice and helpful, from the coaches to the other members. In the past, I would join a gym, drag myself there 3 times a week (if that), do 30 minutes of cardio and rush out of there. At VCF, you are taught how to exercise properly and you do all sorts of exercises. The coaches provide you with the workout of the day and then make sure you are doing everything correctly in order to prevent injury and maximize benefits. I could really go on and on about this but I suggest everyone try it out for themselves, especially if you have decided to incorporate exercising into your daily routine. read more

I have been training at VCF for roughly six months. When I started training my weight was 160 pounds. After six months my weight is still 160 pounds. What gives? While my weight has remained unchanged, none of my clothes seem to fit as they are all too big. I have dropped at least an inch (maybe two in the waist) and have resorted to raiding my son's closet for clothes. I feel like I am back in the shape I was in high school and people have noticed the difference. I can't say enough about VCF and the coaches who generously give their time to train folks like me. The classes are challenging, fun, and results are apparent in relatively short order. The coaches are consistent in their stressing of form over weight. We are pushed to do our best; but always with the caveat that form and safety are most important. A lot happens in a short period of time- which is exactly what I need based on my busy lifestyle. Advanced cross-fitters are typically around to provide guidance and encouragement as this is a community and they want the beginners to flourish from the experience. A few tips for new athletes: 1) arrive early so you can stretch and practice new skills like jumping rope; 2) be social; like I said this is a community; 3) understand this is not a health club so don't expect a juice bar or steam room; 4) focus on the mechanics and form- heavier weights will soon follow; 5) have a great time- this is a game changing experience. Once you are drawn into Crossfit you will find yourself watching YouTube videos of elite athletes running through WODs in order to improve your own performance. I am a loyal customer! read more

The Facility: Valley Crossfit is superlative in the world of crossfit. An amazing facility; top-of-the-line equipment; and elite coaches who know their stuff! I have been training at VCF for almost five years now and wouldn't train anywhere else. I have seen this box grow from its early days under the ownership of Mike Latch to today with its new ownership under the direction of Nick Phillips. I was nervous about the transition of new ownership but have been very pleased with the change. This box is extremely responsive to its community (and it IS a community), paying close attention to the needs of its "athletes", and as a result gets better and better every day. The Classes: The crossfit classes are programmed and taught by the most elite coaches in the world of crossfit - coaches well-versed in technique and skilled at communicating that technique to help their "athletes" improve and grow stronger every day. To enhance this strategic approach, they have included a wide array of supplemental programming such as olympic weight lifting; gymnastics, endurance ("burn"), pilates, and even parkour classes. I have been transformed both mentally and physically with the help of VCF. The gym itself is great. Love the people and the program but Mike the owner, like everyone else has stated, is the epitome of a douche bag. He drives a wrapped Hum-V. Came in asking for classes rude arrogant staff totally turned me off to working out here. I took cross fit at cross fit lifestyle and the staff there was super friendly and inviting. Never have I experienced worse customer service. Woman in front with short black hair was openly rude to me. Got there at the start of class, asked for a waiver when my friend was already checked in. Not to mention, I went out of my way to drive there. She wouldn't give me the waiver, instead gave me attitude, and I had to sit there and watch while my friend took the entire class. Not impressed, disappointed, and overall shocked at the lack of professionalism at this gym. read more

VCF was my first crossfit experience and it's what got me hooked. Like most girls, I worried about trying crossfit because it looked impossibly difficult and (here it goes.... CFers cringe) I did not want to bulk up. Well, first, yes, it is hard as hell - but not impossible. Workouts will kick your butt but they will be scaled to your abilities. You are not expected to walk in knowing how to do pull ups and be able to snatch your body weight. So it's challenging, you'll have to push yourself more than you probably have, but not impossible. Now about bulking up...I think it's a bit of an insult to the ladies that compete - train super hard and diet crazy - to assume that we are going to bulk up for taking up crossfit recreationally. Those girls work super hard and it's not going to happen out of nowhere. You will, however, create muscle and look athletic/fit. Once you get over that, you will feel that amazing feeling of seeing your body work. And you will laugh at the times you curled five pounders at the gym. What I liked about VCF is their size (wink, wink). They are larger than other boxes and have some really cool equipment to keep the workouts fun and challenging. I loved their crossfit dodgeball warm up!!! Their coaches/athletes are ranked as some of the top crossfit atheletes in the world. Google Rebecca Voigt, Katie Hogan, Kristan clever. Owner Mike also has a ridiculous amount of certifications and experience. Mike has gotten a bad rap on some of these reviews, but he always has been helpful and yes funny to me. Coach Sue for beginners was great and I also got a lot of help from Richard. I also liked that they have classes on Sundays, which many other places don't. Prices were a bit higher but they were willing to work with me so I could continue. What stopped me from continuing to train here was the stress from driving from work and often not even making it (damn you 110 and 101!!!). But that's not VCF's fault. I came in with a living social but they have a free 7 day trial so TRY IT!! But be prepared to get hooked. I came in to accompany my bf thinking it would be very short lived!!! read more

I have been to other boxes, and this one tops the cake...a paleo cake with paleo icing...of course. ;-) Everyone is very friendly, extremely encouraging, helpful and fun! I'm fifty this summer and was looking for a good work out. I'd been commuting for two year to the OC from the SFValley and two hours each way for that long, took a toll on my body, even with doing yoga twice a week. This place is awesome. Just what I needed to jump start my get back in shape. I found VCF with a living social deal and got in touch with Mike to ask a bunch of questions first. Mike was great, I went with my twenty year old daughter and signed us both up for a month. We did a couple of days and neither of us could walk on the fourth day. It was a good sore feeling, like we woke up muscles we didn't know we had. I'm pretty disciplined and will push myself,but these trainers are amazing. They're extremely helpful to modify the work out so I can get the form correct and not do too much too soon. Julian was great with us last week and took us through the equipment. The regular members helped us a lot, such nice people. I'm probably old enough to be everybody's mom, but they sure don't make me feel that way. I hope to keep going. The running kills me. I'm not a runner, but this week the trainer who's name I missed helped me get a great work out with a modified run sequence to fit my abilities. I hope to drop that seventeen pounds that I put on commuting for two years, and I'm know I'm doing my best in every session. My goal this week is to do that pull up without the strap :) read more

Got to spend a couple of days here. The facility is gorgeous! The members are incredibly nice and the coaches are intelligent and well spoken. Bryce (the coach) introduced us to everyone and had us feeling comfortable very quickly.The workouts were challenging and touched on multiple modalities. I was lucky enough to participate in an open gym. I had asked Mike (the owner) if could use the ropes to climb. He responded with "Make yourself at home and take as long as you want. Play with the toys." When I am back in LA I will be dropping in again! This place was exemplary. read more

Valley Crossfit requires focus, determination, and energy. You can't come to this gym and zone out and that is what I love about it. I am always challenged yet have a great time. All workouts can be tailored to an individual fitness level. The trainers are soooo nice and just expect you to work to your potential in a steady and methodical manner. VCF is different from many other gyms in the sense that individual trainers create programming for their own group instead of just one person creating the workout and other trainers following to teach that same workout. For those who already know about crossfit - there is a reason VCF has had so many people do well at the Crossfit games - they hold everyone to a high standard. Valley CrossFit offers multiple kinds of classes for every level of athlete. I personally take only the Burn classes which always gets me a GREAT workout and not as lifting intensive. The coaches will scale the movements for you but at the same time, are able to push you to constantly improve. Last week I was able to attend my first three crossfit classes ever. I truly felt like I was going to collapse in the middle of my first workout. However, the hour I was there flew by! Every few minutes we were on to a different exercise and I didn't have a chance to get bored (I was just trying to breathe and not keel over). I went back the next day and, once again, got an amazingly intense work out (although we did completely different exercises) in one hour. By Wednesday morning my whole body hurt from being super sore. The type of sore where you realize that you have definitely gotten your money's worth!!! I went back on Thursday and had a completely different, but equally amazing, workout! I can not wait to go back. In regards to the people, Wednesday's beginner class was quite large. However, Mike (the teacher for that evening) anticipated that and asked for help from some of the members that had been training there for years. There were probably 8 people helping about 30-40 of us. It almost felt like I was in a semi-personal training session. This "box" is a class act and makes me want to become strong and fitter. I've been a member since September 2014 and Valley Crossfit is a legit gym. Equipment is top notch and the gym itself is spacious and clean. Coaches are amazing and incredibly knowledgeable about technique, knowing when to push your limits, and how to scale the workouts. The programming is fun and challenging, and the workouts never feel routine. They're designed to challenge you, so it may be intimidating at first, but you'll be surprised by what you can accomplish. One of the best decisions I have ever made in my life was starting VCF. Having had 4 kids and dealing with autism I was completely out of shape. I started on a Sunday morning with coach Mark, terrified, but he was so welcoming and patient I left feeling like this was something that was going to be amazing. I came to Valley Crossfit scared, intimidated, and really out of shape. I started with the 6 week challenge and fell in love...not just with the workouts, but with the staff as well.
