I came by about a week ago to get a manicure from the VCC salon and spa. I think you have to temper your expectations for the services they offer because students are the ones performing those services, albeit overseen by their instructors. For this appointment I was at VCC for about an hour and 15 minutes while the service was performed which was longer than I expected. The manicure I received was fine but I did find that one of my cuticles was irritated in the following days and so I probably would not go back... It wasn't worth the savings or the patience in this case. Their salon itself is nice and doesn't feel too cramped. I would say VCC is very transit friendly as it's close to stadium SkyTrain station, but if you're driving you may find it difficult to find street parking. At a location like this, every experience will be different - you do save a few dollars with each service but have to decide yourself if it's worth it. read more

This is the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I understand they're students, but there was an instructor next to her and there's no reason to justify how terrible this haircut is. The instructor didn't even offer to fix it and would say "it's fine, it's good" but it is nowhere near good. Anyone (friends/ family) whom I've seen since my haircut make a comment about my haircut read more

I have never had a better experience at any student hair salon, than I have at the VCC salon. The students are friendly and kind, and so are the instructors. The price is also unbeatable. I highly recommend them. PS. They get Very busy. read more

I went several times in VCC Salon & Spa for different services, mostly hair jobs. So far I have only had great experiences. I recommend

I came here for a trim and had it with a specific student to do my hair. She did a great job. She asked for for feedback form her hair washing to massaging and hair cutting style. Her methods were a bit different, but considering I was her first person with naturally kinky hair and it was a challenge as she had to consult with other students and her teacher. Staff and students there seem to be pretty nice. They're leaning how to do all kinds of operations there at the salon. From the front desk management to hair to spa treatments, nails etc. Hmmmm I think I'll have to come back and see how they can do my nails. I need a good mani pedi. Above all? Can't beat the price. Just remember they're still learning. Be nice. I hear that they get some wild customers now and then. Above all? Be patient and book extra time off so you can spend quality time there and help the students learn their craft. You represent the customer for their future endeavors! I am a fan. Yes. Thanks KTB. read more

Just to add... someone said we shouldn't have high expectations, but if they're charging actual $, at the very minimum, the teachers should check on the work. If they can't do that, the services should be free to students and not open to the public. read more

The girls working today at both the front desk and the salon were amazing! They were able to accommodate me for a rushed last minute request (I got there closer to 4:30). The student who washed, blow dried and styled my hair was patient, sweet, and did a wonderful job. I felt bad for going until 5:40 but she was so kind. If tipping was allowed, I'd have done it in a heartbeat. The folks at VCC really saved my ass today before a large client meeting. Thank you guys so much!! The students are really there to learn, and they're so upbeat! You can really tell that they're passionate about hair. Based on this experience, I'd definitely come back to try both the salon and spa. Keep up the great work! read more

VCC Salon & Spa - Shampoo, blow dry, and styled hair! - Hair Salons Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

I came here a week ago or so to get a facial plus shoulders and one of the workers there was a young southern asian man. He made me feel incredibly uncomfortable because he was touching me a lot in uncomfortable areas and groped me several times, as well as constantly asking my age. i will not change my review unless he gets fired because it is absolutely unacceptable behaviour. read more

Went back again for a gel pedicure and got the royal treatment. Love this place! It took an hour and it was the loveliest hour of my life. It came with a 15 massage and the ladies in the spa were so lovely read more

VCC Salon & Spa - My gel pedicure - Hair Salons Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

THEY MADE ME GO BALD! My hair was virgin and non-treated. I went in to do a ISO Maintamer. The teacher who was supposed to come and check my hair barely came by, the 2 students that worked my hair combed the shit out of it while the product was in, and all my hair BROKE AT THE TOP. What resulted from that was 2-3 weeks getting HANDFULLS AND HANDFULLS of hair. It was a nightmare. I called them and they offered NO SUPPORT whatsoever. I know it is a hairdressing school, but the minimum of care should be taken when students and teachers are working on a person's hair. I had to pay over 450 dollars in extensions in oder to cover the huge bald spot at the top of my head. I contacted them when I was getting extreme hair loss, and all they did was ask me for pictures, which I did send them. Yet they offered NOTHING AT ALL. ALL I CAN SAY IS STAY AWAY AND PAY A PROFESSIONAL INSTEAD OF COMING HERE. read more

Over the past year or so I have been trying to save money by having my sisters cut my hair since it's so simple to just shave a #1 around the sides and leave the top alone BUT before that I was used to paying $20 plus for the exact same thing at a barber/salon and it just wasn't worth it. I wanted a nicer cut for my girlfriend's birthday but didn't have much time to do so because I was working all week and unfortunately I work downtown ( where hair cutting prices are through the roof) I did some research of places near by and found tons of $25 - $100 and then I came across this one that was $11 for a haircut from a student so I called and they said I might be able to walk in. I got there around 1:30pm and luckily I was told they had 1 spot left for the day. Here's where I understood why the price was so affordable...The student I got must have been the most green ( new) out of the bunch, he had to keep calling his instructor for help but I also understood that he was still learning and just tried to zone out and let it be. To my surprise the $11 included a shampoo and conditioning which I had no clue was part of it and the student was actually very good at this part! lol, I had never had that done for me before. In the end the instructor probably did 90% of my haircut after being called over to help 5-7 times and it took almost an hour for what seemed to be a pretty simple cut but it was worth the price for sure. If you plan on trying this place out just be patient, you might get an advanced student or you might get a greener student on whatever service you choose. Also make sure you have a good amount of time before going in so that if it takes longer than expected you will be well aware. I will for sure try it again when I have the chance ( I'm sure my sisters will be grateful ) :P read more

Went there today for an eyebrow wax and got great service! Keep in mind that these are students, not hired and seasoned professionals at a high end salon. Have patience and an open mind..and be flexible. I can't say for every service, but for mine, an instructor was in there with the student to make sure I didn't end up with crooked brows. Love it. Yes it took longer than if I went to a salon, but that's ok. The students are still learning. A really professional place that offers great services at a lower price. Great for poor students like me looking to get pampered. I will definitely be returning! read more

The spa and salon services at VCC have been totally renovated and the new combined space rocks! Varying tones and shades of white, mauve and green along with super flattering lighting makes this a relaxing oasis on the southern edge of Gastown. Private treatment rooms are gorgeous, with warm massage beds and soft, soft linens. A full selection of organic Eminence product, along with Dermologica is avaiable at reception. Six-star service! read more

I had a shampoo, cut and blow dry and the student assigned to do my hair did a great job. My hair was beautifully layered and I feel that I received a salon quality haircut. The teacher kept checking now and then to see how the student was doing and to advise her and make sure that she was doing a good job. It does take longer than at a regular hair salon because they're still learning so be patient. I didn't mind that it took longer because I used to get quickie haircuts at Amir Baghdad and they didn't know how to layer my hair properly. Lynne H. read more

Love this place!! The students are awesome and it's such a great deal on hair, facials and massages!! Best kept secret in town! Who needs a fancy massage/spa when the quality is just as good because they are in training and really enjoy their profession. read more

Another sad visit to VCC Salon. I'm not even going to explain it. I'm just done with the instructors and the management. It is a highly expensive course that doesn't do justice to those students who pay and the foreign students who pay more. In my opinion it is not reputable in the least. The way they train is insufficient and won't teach students about providing customer service at all. If VCC wants to succeed they need to learn and teach how to receive critiquing with grace and respect. They should take surveys from clients for overall use as part of improving course material. As a matter of fact one of the teachers openly admitted that alot of students fail to take instructions and carry them through. It appears to go in one ear and out the other. Lol rating this place is easy -5 read more

I had my hair dyed (colour retouch) and the student did a great job. The price worths the long time I spent there, waiting for the teacher to supervise the student work. read more

I don't cut my hair often nor do I stick with one salon but I realized that if I want to maintain my hair that is down to my lower back I should probably get it cut more than once or twice a year! At VCC, $11 gets you a shampoo, condition, head massage, cut and blow-dry. I should mention that I asked for a trim with just the ends cut off and layers in the front--not a crazy cut. From what was happening around me, the students are capable of these crazy awesome cuts but I just didn't get one. My stylist barely cut anything off yet my hair felt so much lighter! If you're still wary of a student cutting/dying your hair I asked one of the instructors and they let the students work on clients 3-4 months after starting their program and also there is always an instructor there who checks every hair cut after it has been finished. read more

Had a customized facial here yesterday with Jenny, one of the students in the spa program. My skin feels soooo nice and soft right now. Definitely going back. And it only cost $34 for a customized facial! She gave me a massage as well on my shoulders and back and she gave me a moisturizer sample for free when I was done. The women at the front desk were also very kind and accommodating. Giving this a 4/5 instead of a 5 just because my student-aesthetician forgot to lower the bed when I was done, so I had to do a weird hop when I was done and almost slipped. Also, I found that she spoke too much when I would have preferred less talking getting my facial done (on the other hand, she does have a great personality and is very kind, but I was feeling introverted that day). These are just small issues and I realize she's still in training, so I still plan on going back for another facial. read more

I have been getting my hair cut off and on at the salon for the past 2 years. I've never had a bad hair cut here. The students are cautious and really listen to what you want. There is always an instructor supervising. Price can't be beat at $11 for a shampoo, cut, and blow dry. A deep conditioning treatment runs about $8 and I think these are a must if you want to maintain healthy hair. I also feel good that I'm helping contributing (in a positive way) to students' education. I've had better hair cuts here than in most salons around Vancouver. Facilities are very clean and the salon just had a very nice facelift and renovation. read more

don't be deceived with the cheap prices. not worth it. I was misinformed with the prices, didn't get the hair colour I wanted and my cut was uneven. only paid $84 but would rather have paid more at a different salon. at first i love it (being a first timer with dyeing hair of course i loved it) but when i showered, that's when i noticed all the mistakes. the curls my hairdresser gave me in the end was too deceiving. I called again for them to fix it because i really don't appreciate how it turned out and that $84 was a such a waste, but they insisted on me paying AGAIN. if you're looking for a good cut and balayage/ombre, don't ever go here. read more

I read over the reviews here and decided to make an appointment, my hair was getting long and unbalanced in certain areas becoming hard to manage,I was reluctant as wanting to keep my long hair. I learned of the VCC salon while visiting the other campus, called the VCC and set an appointment. I have been volunteering on a limited income, not on public assistance and seeking self employment and a career change in Vancouver, and have upcoming events, you may imagine what a real challenge this is,the cost of haircuts and style in Vancouver is jaw dropping Jenn an excellent stylist, really listened to my concerns and how I wanted to go about changing my hair to become more balanced, natural and easier to care for.She also was considerate of my hair and scalp and gave me a good product treatment, washed my hair and cut it the way I was talking about. I do admit I did some online research first on my hair type, the type of cut best suited, and face shape and came in prepared. The Instructor friendly and personable also came and checked on her work. I felt confident in my personal transformation and the cut and style is professional superb value and consider this as a gift from the VCC as community investment back into people.I will definitely return to the VCC salon and request Jenn again, a smart choice with excellent value and treated with an exchange of positive energy and respect. read more
