If i could rate a zero I would - I should have paid attention to the warnings. Here is the outline I just sent to American Express. I will be contacting Varsity Headquarters if this is not resolved.. $500!!!! 9/27-- I confirmed order that we would have a tutor 2-3 xs a week for my son who was taking a senior level college course - Differential Equations and that he needed intense tutoring as we need to decide by 10/27 whether he needs to withdraw from the class. They confirmed that we would have someone for that amount of time. That the matching process would take 48-72 hours 9/30 - Received email that a match was underway for following 4 available time slots "Your request for a Differential Equations tutor has been received and our team is looking for the best tutor who can meet with xxx during their provided availability: Monday 3:30pm - 5:00pm EDT Wednesday 3:30pm - 5:00pm EDT 6:00pm - 7:30pm EDT Thursday 3:30pm - 5:00pm EDT 10/1 - Received notification that a session was scheduled for 10/3 10/3 - First tutor session at 4PM and only session for that week 10/3 - Spoke with my son after the session and he advised that it was a poor session and the tutor was providing the answers rather than working out the solution with my son. 10/4 - I called Varsity Tutors and requested Cancellation as they did not have any other tutor available or him. I received an email at 12:11 pm advising "We have processed your cancellation request and it will be deactivated on 10/27" and that "Membership includes use of 1:1 tutoring, group classes, homework helper and practice quizzes" Nothing that would cover Differential Equations - a 4th year college class. 10/8 - Received email that the next tutoring session would be 10/10 (4 days after cancelling). 10/9 - Received email from the tutor requesting to change sessions. Even though this was cancelled, you can clearly see below that the tutor could not meet my son's schedule listed above at 9/30 "Hi xxx , Please could we move our Thursday meetings, 10/17, to 6:30pm est same day or Friday, 10/18, at 8pm est, recurring every week? I have a conflicting schedule at our current (3pm est) time starting next Thursday, every Thursday. Please let me know. My apologies for any inconvenience. Thanks, xxx " 10/14 - Received another email that the next tutor session was scheduled for October 16 at 9:00 PM let me repeat NINE PM! This after getting an email to move it to 10/17 or 10/18! 10/15 - AT 9:41 AM I sent an email to Varsity Tutors regarding status of cancellation 10/15 - AT 10:24 AM I received a call from "Natasha" trying to upsell me. I explained to her it is too late. We needed a tutor 2-3 times a week, they found one person, as no other responded that could meet with my son 1x per week and it is now October 15 and I received NO CALL for 11 days. Varsity Tutors failed to meet their obligation of having a 2-3 times per week so that we can determine if my son needs to withdraw or carry on in this class. The tutor met with him one time and then scheduled only two additional sessions up till 10/17, during which time, he requested my son change his schedule to meet his schedule and a 9PM tutor session as well! I will continue to fight this and if not, they will be hearing from my lawyer. read more

This tutoring service practices predatory sales with automated recurring charges. I asked for 4 hours of tutoring and was charged $329 and was not told I would be enrolled in a monthly membership, and was then surprised to see another $329 charged on my credit card bill. I have only completed two tutoring hours for these charges plus one 'free' course. After multiple points of contact, I have been refunded one of the charges but still have not been credited the two tutoring hours I was promised. All of this was to help my son with ACT prep for a test he is taking next week. They tried to upsell me another package when I called. Go somewhere else for your test prep and tutoring needs. This company is terrible. read more

Varsity Tutors did reach out to me to resolve the issue. I was refunded some of my money.

I wish I could give this company a negative 5 stars. I waited for 15 minutes for a tutor that never showed up. I called and they said oh we couldn't find a tutor yet. I waited again for my first session to start. it never did. 15 minutes into the nonexistent class they sent an email saying the instructor only got notified 30 minutes before so they postponed it a week. I finally gave up and asked for a refund. I got it. but I am still receiving reminders of my next class. Clearly this company is extremely confused. i recommend you find some other source for tutoring. read more

Beware of Varsity Tutors. They are very expensive compared to other tutoring services. Not only expensive, but they are scammers. They said it is in my contract that there is an expiration date. Firstly, I never got a written contract. Had I known there was an expiration date, why would I pay a lot of hours knowing it's going to expire? I am a student, and a student doesn't make a lot of money to waste any money. Why would you have an expiration date for tutoring? If there were, try to reach out to the student that your hours are about to expire. No one ever did that. Then I tried to call. Three times three people said that they were submitting it to the escalation department. When I called back 3 days later, a person told me that she apologized but my hours had expired, and their note said that that was the last time they were going to extend it. Nobody told me that. Recently I called again. I asked if I still had 8.5 hours remaining. They said, no. It has already expired. What? It was disgusting. Then same person called back and said she was going to submit it to the escalation department. I told her no. You already told me that it has expired. I know that my explanation above is not very detailed but like I said, I am a student, and I don't need this. I paid lots of money for 15 hours. I only used 6.5 hours total. I still have 8.5 hours and I should have those hours given back to me and they should be there when I need them. If they had given that to me for free, I can understand that it should have an expiration date. I paid for it from my own pocket, hard work. I should have my hours and no expiration date. If anybody is reading this, do not use Varsity. They are disgusting like scammers do. read more

I used this company but only in an online version. They have multiple locations listed in yelp but I chose this location because this is where their headquarters is located. I used their tutoring services in the beginning of 2023 after I found their website online. I called and purchased a first month of tutoring and then I called and purchased a second month of tutoring. I thought I was done with this company after that because I chose not to call and buy a third month. Instead, this company signed me up for some sort of membership that I didn't agree to or even know about. They charged my card $579 per month for 21 months before I realized what was happening. I know it seems unreal that they got away with it for so long and not checking my credit card statements is a tough lesson that I had to learn. The company says they will refund all my money back but so far they have only refunded 3 months of charges. Now when I call them they tell me that they have to consult with their legal department before they take further action. Why does a tutoring company even need a legal department? If everything they are doing is on the up and up why does their legal department have to review my account before they agree to do the right thing and refund all of my money? read more

Great company who really cares about their students learning. Lots of products to select from. Very happy Dad!

Be careful of their billing options. They will continue to bill you without permission. Read the fine print. It's very difficult to get out of the contract. read more

As a family, we have been taking advantage of Varsity Tutors extensive free online courses for children. With VT we have been to the Colosseum, attended a kidney transplant and studied dinosaurs, art, space, ocean life, geography, math concepts, creative writing and more! We have fallen in love instructors & had educational experiences that have broadened our horizons and brightened our days. Thank you for providing this fabulous service! read more

This is a horrible company , and they're only after your money, without providing adequate service, or any service for that matter. They even continue billing you after the subscription cancellation, and come out with bogus excuses to justify their unauthorized charges. My daughter signed up for their tutoring classes, and on 2 occasions , the tutor was not present . When I called to complain, they lied and claimed that the tutor was there and that my daughter never confirmed the session. I told the that I what to cancel the membership and for them to stop billing. Then I saw yet another charge on the next billing statement. WHen I called to complain and request that they reverse the charges immediately, they lied yet again, claiming that there was additional tutoring sessions taken, and that their new charges where for that. Not only did they cheat my daughter and provide less classes than was was paid for , but they continued billing when no services were rendered. This company has not only bad business practices, but is unethical and scamming from innocent students vulnerability. Please don't use their services and save yourself some aggravation. read more

Their tutoring services are good and their hourly rates are very expensive. Next time I'll find a different tutor for my child. I have also not enjoyed their constant calling to sell me more hours of tutoring services. read more

I have been using Varsity Tutors for over a year now. I like that I can get a package of hours and use them for several different subjects for my daughter and me. We've had tutors for marketing, writing a business plan, reading music, vocal lessons, writing a book, learning to use google docs and learning Spanish. My daughter loves the fact that she can be anywhere and have a session. I love being able to review lessons again for repetition and not having the stress of interviewing tutors with the blind hope of their backgrounds being good. Varsity is one stop shop for learning. This fits with our belief that one should never stop learning. read more

I have used Varsity Tutors to get support using their Instant Tutoring capabilities and was blown away by the technology. I was able to instantly match with a tutor using their online platform and after a couple attempts I found a very helpful tutor whom helped me with my needs. Varsity is basically the Uber of the academic world. I highly recommend. read more

Bryan McGavin was my daughter's tutor. He was really great! My daughter improved from a 23 on the ACT to a 25. The only reason that I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 was that I was hoping that my daughter would improve more, but I still believe the tutoring was worth it. I recommend Varsity Tutors. read more

Varsity tutors helped our son raise his ACT score by 2 points - it was THE crucial 2 points he needed and just couldn't seem to get. The sessions were convenient to his schedule and the strategies he learned helped him hit his goal. read more

My child had to take her ACT test and needed some one on one training. Varsity had an excellent tutor who met with her and helped her get ready for the test. He was not only very knowledgeable about the test content but also helped her with some tips on test taking. Overall our experience was very good and I would highly recommend Varsity to anyone. read more

NCLEX-RN Tutoring. My name is Nicole. I have used Varsity for over 3 years while in college. My first experience was in 2017 while I was taking pre-requisites for a Nursing program. I reached out to Varsity Tutors to help me prepare for the TEAS. I did excellent on it. I continued to work them for my course work and during my rotations. I went from getting 80's to making the Dean's list for Junior and Senior year with a GPA of 3.7. I started preparing for the NCLEX-RN exam at the beginning of 2020. I again reached out to Varsity Tutors. My tutor was very patient with me and allowed for a lot of questions. I have never been a good test taker, so she walked me through not only concepts but test-taking strategies and time management. She made me feel comfortable and took a step by step approach.  I took the NCLEX-RN examination on February 6, 2020, and passed. I can never put to words the gratitude I have for Varsity Tutors. My tutor helped me improve my grades, be a better student, and now that I have passed, I believe ( I KNOW) I will be a better RN. Thank you Varsity Tutors. read more

It took me three tutors to find the right one. I needed tutoring for a senior level finance elective at my university. The first two tutors were unable to understand the material for the class so I called to cancel the hours I had purchased. Varsity tutors convinced me to try online tutoring and it was great. My third tutor has a very flexible schedule and helped me understand the material much better. read more

I spoke to someone on the phone to inquire about tutoring. I was told that the only available option was online tutoring and I explained that I would have to think about it, as in person tutoring is a better fit for my learning style. I was then condescendingly told "good luck" and was hung up on. Awful. read more

We are big fans of Varsity Tutors! At first, we were dealing with time constraints with our child's schedule and it was recommended we try Skyping through V.T. Not being familiar with this method, we passed and went with a traditional time at a mutual setting. After the session, V.T. quickly followed up and asked for faith to consider the online option. So we tried it.....and we became overnight fans!! NO additional driving for me, the assistance comes directly to her work atmosphere, much quieter setting which enhances focus, and the rest is history! So whenever we are in need, we turn to Emily for rest-assured guidance and success. She is great! read more

I have been a tutor for Varsity Tutors since January 2014. it is a fantastic company to work for - and they do their very best to keep you busy. I have had a large number of students in the past two years; they do their best to not only match up subject matter, but also with personality. When a potential match is found, you are sent an email and you are given the choice to accept or reject. Nearly all, including my online students, have been a positive experience for me. I am one happy tutor and plan to be with them for quite some time! read more

Recently joined the team, and i have realized that this is a wonderful, and truly ethical company to work for. I have a background in education management, particularly in supplemental education. Varsity, from an employee perspective, is like no other in its field. I think that anyone who is seeking a career with a company that is growing exponentially (due to its game-changing technology and amazing leadership) should check this company out. read more

Varsity Tutors has been so great with both of my children and their academic needs. My son (13) tested into school a year early and, while he has never struggled academically, every now and again he has a homework question. Instant tutoring has been such a life saver for us in this regard. He can get instant access to a tutor whenever he needs it and it only charges for the time he uses instead of a full sit down session. My daughter (6) has a reading/phonics tutor that actually teaches in another school district! She visits our home twice per week to make sure my daughter is keeping up with her assigned reading, site words, and high frequency words. It allows me to spend more quality time with my kids and not have to worry about homework! Highly recommend!! read more

Both my kids loved their tutors. We will continue to use their service. Thank you to Jill for connecting us with such s great tutor.

We've used Varsity Tutors on more than one occasion. My youngest homeschools but I needed someone to help teach Math which let's be honest is not my strong suit. Rachel was just amazing! Scheduling was super easy, she engaged with Trenton and even gave him wiggle breaks for his ADHD during sessions. We also used Varsity when my oldest wanted to learn Sign Language. We used their live learning platform. Forget what you've heard about "online tutoring", it's so cool. He's 9 and loves it. I'd much rather he be learning from an expert online than playing video games or watching youtube. It's awesome to watch him interact with his tutor who's so connected to him. Lastly, we use their Instant service which allows either kiddo to get help with homework on demand. As a parent, you really can't beat that layer of support in the evenings with 8 million other things are going on and your kid needs help. We'll be with Varsity for many years to come! read more

Kimi Shah is a truly wonderful tutor. We feel so blessed to have found this company, Varsity Tutors, and Kimi. She motivated our son to work hard and reach his goals. With Kimi's help, he raised his ACT score 4 points! He already had a good score, but he wants to go either out of state or to a private university, so he's looking for scholarships. This boost in his ACT will surely help. We haven't received his score on the AP Chem exam, but he earned an A on the semester exam, so we are very optimistic. Thank you so much! I highly recommend Varsity Tutors. read more

The experience with Varsity for ACT tutoring was WAY BELOW expectations. If you want someone to administer tests and not teach, then Varsity is for you. If you want effective education and true results, there are MUCH stonger options for the money. Our high school senior had minimal ACT improvement after spending hours with a Varsity administrator. After an equal amount of time with a different and high quality ACT tutoring firm, our senior had fabuluous results (ACT went form 25 to 30). Bottom line - Do't waste your money with Varsity when there a superior options in St. Louis. read more

We were very happy with Varsity Tutors! The professional staff found just the right person to help my son understand his Chemistry homework AND helped him prepare for the ACT. The tutor came to our home, which made scheduling so much easier! He was prepared, on time, and always ready to work. I'll recommend Varsity Tutors to all of our friends at school without any hesitation. read more
