There was a lady dressed in riding boots and a leopard print faux fur jacket on the treadmill when we were there, which is neither here nor there but was rather amusing to behold. So, we got there an hour early as instructed in order to make use of the spa facilities, but it was still quite chilly outside so after 20 minutes in the spa, a quick swim and a steam we were kind of over it so just hung around in the bathrooms gasbagging! Then one of the staff spotted us and directed us to a lovely waiting room and made us cups of tea before we were led into our treatments. Body scrub, foot scrub and full body massage. Very divine, thanks again Amrita!

Spas typically have a relaxing, inviting, private lounge area (and some with extra included…read morefacilities like a hot tub, sauna, and/or steam room) for guests to enjoy before & after their treatment. This is not that kind of place. It's mostly only called a spa because it offers multiple treatments, but it's not a place to enjoy your day at. The waiting room is small with bright rainbow cushions against dull gray walls, so it feels more like a doctor's waiting room than a spa. The masseuse asked what focus areas I wanted for my $120 remedial massage, but she didn't focus on those spots and it felt more like a Swedish full body massage than anything. I've been fortunate to have several massages every year for the past 11 years, so I feel pretty well versed in the massage experience. When I asked as politely as possible if pressure could be increased, the masseuse paused and was silent for about 3-4 counts, then said she had been doing massages back to back all day so couldn't do it. Awkward. The rest of the massage felt like I was just being touched and going through a process rather than focusing on particular areas I came in for. I wondered several times throughout if I should just ask her to stop and leave, but I didn't want to get confrontational. The receptionist was empathetic and gave me a 20% discount for the unimpressive experience. That was nice and kudos for the effort.

While my attendant was sweet, I was booked for a 90 minute massage, manicure and pedicure. The same person did all three, in the same room, which is unusual, but there was no foot soak/station, no cuticle soak, all three done while lying flat on the massage table, with no offer to move, stand up, take a break, anything! It was 3.5 hours lying on a table. I asked to sit up during the pedicure, which appeared to surprise her, she couldn't get the table to work to lift up, though it's allegedly able to do that. I had to ask for a base coat, two coats of color, and it didn't surprise her, but she had to go get the materials and then start over. The locker room is great, as are the steam room and sauna, but I also shouldn't have to cut across a public facing lobby in my robe to get to my massage room and back. Maybe a cultural difference, but I've been to spa's in Shanghai, British Columbia and the US in the last year and I've never had all three services done by the same person or in the same small room like this. It made me wonder if I'm lying in someone else's debris. $420 Fail.
