After days of searching, using parameter *they demanded*, provided them with 1) a 100% match to their required parameters (which there was only 1 left), and 2 perfectly good 98% match options (of which were many). Then it was like they disappeared off the earth for 2 weeks - no response. I finally got them to respond, and they basically told me to eff off that if I wasn't going to "follow their demands to the very letter" they weren't going to help me. Like *I* was wasting their time. Why was *I* the one tasked with finding my own parts anyway -- they're supposed to be the "experts", or did they just brush me off with bs scut work hoping I'll just go away because I'm a girl with some actual mechanical knowledge. Either way SUPER unprofessional and total city. Don't trust them. Not good to their word/untrustworthy. Sent me on a very specific "wild goose chase" to find a new engine for my suv. Frustrating experience here that wound up costing us even more $$ at a follow up auto shop…read more What made it worse is when the shop went silent and didn't return calls and emails. Bummer.

I brought my sick car to Madison Automotive after a ridiculous and jaw-dropping repair estimate…read morefrom another North Portland shop (ahem. Art of Maintenance). This guy listened to me, called me right away with the diagnostic & estimate, and fixed it right up, and didn't fix anything that didn't need fixing. It runs great now & the bill didn't even go over a grand. I'd never been there before, even though I've seen it a million times as it's right across the street from Grocery Outlet. But it'll now be my go-to repair shop. If you're sick of automotive places ripping you off, and I know I am, take your car over to Madison. They ROCK.

My wife took her jeep in for a no crank/no start condition. They replaced starter and it didn't fix…read morethe problem. Magically the old starter was sent back for a core when I asked to test it myself. She took it back and they had it for a long time and kept saying that they couldn't duplicate issue. Went to pick up and it wouldn't start. They were entirely incapable of the diagnosis, my wife got online and found forums that the neutral safety switch (in transmission) was a known issue. Paid nearly$1000. Drove home car wouldn't shift. They forgot to put fluid in it. When I asked for that to be in writing, the owner told me that if he needs to replace the tranny, he would but then would blackball us from the shop. A few months later, the no start issue came back. We took it in several times for warranty. Was told that they once again couldn't duplicate the issue. Once it finally failed for good, I called for warranty the owner literally told me that we missed warranty by a week. The part is like $50 and the majority was labor. They don't stand behind their work and are not competent enough to do it correctly. Took it to another shop and had it repaired correctly. The only reason that I'm leaving 1 star is that the star rating doesn't allow me to go any lower. I'm hoping that a healthy dose of karma comes Jim's way.

I'm delighted by these people…read more Honest, helpful, willing to fit us in when the aging Subaru wagon (which endures a LOT of serious wear and tear) has needs... they go the extra mile. Like when they replaced the starter, and then it wouldn't start -- they diagnosed a dying battery (starter was fine), and even tightened all the belts for free after the hubby went and got a new battery. Clemens has become our regular repair (and maintenance) shop.

Do not use these guys unless you want to be ripped off! There are new people running this place &…read morethey try to take advantage of women. I had a triple a tow truck driver tell me I needed a new battery. I wasn't so sure so I took my 27 yr old ford escort to Clemens. I said I wanted them to figure out the battery issue & I wanted an oil change. Well they tried to sell me a brand new Napa battery for $220 and when I balked, they got weird. I said I wasn't going to have the car much longer so why would I want to spend that kind of money on a battery. I said I'd get a battery & bring it there for them to install. they said okay. I took them the battery & expected the oil change to be done & I could take my car. Wrong! They had still not done the oil change & their reason was that they couldn't do it if the car had a dead battery. I thought since they were an auto repair shop that they could figure out how to do an oil change on a car that needed a battery, like use a battery that they keep on hand just for this reason. But no I had to leave my car over the weekend. when it still wasn't ready on Mon evening I was pissed. I said just install the battery, forget the oil change. they'd had my car for 3 days & done nothing, then they charged me $60 to install the battery, saying that they really should have charged me the full diagnostic charge which is $120.00. Wow what a ripoff place!
