I placed an order for product and services with Vanity Vancouver for kitchen design, custom cabinet assembly, delivery and installation. The cabinets design, assembly and delivery came to just under $8000. Installation was an additional ~$3000.
First delivery/design/installation issues - Monday March 12-14
-The delivery person dropped a cabinet, breaking a corner
-The cabinets were the wrong size. The upper cabinets were too tall to be installed in the space as I had requested.
-The sink cabinet was the wrong size. As a result, the sink could not be centered.
-The installer did not prepare the cabinets correctly for installing lights. He stuffed the electrical connections into the drywall and covered it up, making it impossible to connect the lights.
The installer repeated lied about the issues I brought up. He maintained that the dropped cabinet was fine, until I found the cabinet and confronted him with the broken corner. He maintained that he knew how to install the lights, but then covered up all the electrical connections without connecting any lights, etc.
When I brought up the wrong cabinet size, they suggested mounting the cabinets higher up on the walls to create more space - EVEN THOUGH THAT WOULD BE A FIRE SAFETY VIOLATION.
Second delivery/design issues - April 9, 2018
My new licensed general contractor was present during this delivery to inspect the cabinets and review the design.
The cabinets arrived in bad condition:
-The joints were not well connected so there were gaps in the corners where it should have been sealed.
-Several "glossy white" panels had bubbling paint, so instead of a smooth glossy finish, the surface was rough and not shiny
-The hinges were not well connected, so several doors became loose while being handled
-One cabinet had cracks from poorly drilled screws, resulting in the glossy white finish and wood frame being cracked.
-One cabinet had multiple rough, unfinished edges. The delivery person admitted that the cabinet was created by cutting a larger cabinet in half.
-Several cabinets had screws that did not fit their holes and stuck out
-One cabinet was not delivered at all.
Additionally, as my contractor was reviewing the delivery and the design documents with Robert, the Vanity Vancouver representative, he noticed that the height of the cabinets/frame by the fridge was STILL too tall. It meant that the cabinet would be STILL too close to the fire sprinkler, which would be AGAINST FIRE SAFETY REGULATIONS.
At this point I terminated my contract with them. At every criticism, both Robert and Howard from Vanity Vancouver attempted to gaslight me by claiming that requirements were just my "preference" that my "standards were too high" and that it "wasn't their job" to design things to adhere to fire safety code (!!!!!).
At first, they refused to return my deposit and insisted they they had a right to charge me for assembly and design, even though both the assembly and design were defective. However, after I contacted Visa and Visa confirmed that they would support me in a credit dispute, my money was refunded.
To add insult to injury, as they removed their shitty cabinets, they managed to dent my freshly painted walls and new washing machine.
DO NOT BUY FROM THESE GUYS. Howard will promise the world, but once things go wrong, they'll take turns blaming you.
PS - If you check all the reviews on Google, Howard Chen actually reviews himself to give the company 5 stars. read more
