The security here was completely out of synch. Once the crowd started surfing, there was nobody up front to keep it safe, and people were getting seriously injured and dropped since we couldn't catch them to help them down. Worse, at one point one of the bouncers stood in the middle of the pit and assaulted one of us during the headliner for no reason, leaving nail marks and bruises. The owner did try to make things right but frankly, the fact that it got to that point is on them. Go if you have to, but if a band is playing elsewhere nearby, I'd recommend going there instead.

I've been going to this bar for probably about a decade now. It has been through several different…read moreincarnations and three different owners in this time. It has remained one of the coolest dive bars I've ever been in. In the last couple of years, they started serving some really, really yummy food. I get the Philly cheesesteak, but have them use cheddar and put extra onions on it. It is absolutely to die for. Steve, the mastermind behind the majority of the menu, also recently added on Browned butter cocoa puff marshmallow treats. ZOMG! They no longer just have beer and wine, they have hard alcohol now. This is resulted in some, how you say, "more interesting" evenings than it did before, but overall the crowd is really friendly and supportive of the nightly karaoke singers. Had my first date with Flava Dave there. I don't drink and neither does my now husband (Flava Dave) so we go up and do duets and call ourselves The Sober Barflies. The karaoke hosts are always a lot of fun. Flava Dave picks up fill-in karaoke shifts there occasionally. Sam Cori is adorable, upbeat, and a classically trained singer and songwriter. She makes *another* performance of Bohemian Rhapsody fun and fresh again! We even had Gabe (one of the Karaoke hosts with a heartthrob vibrato bass voice), sing the music for our wedding and host karaoke at in my parents' sizeable rec-room afterward! He knocked my folks out signing Unchained Melody, their song, at our little reception. A lot of momentous occasions, birthday gatherings, and bachelorette parties take place there. I've seen a number of people get proposed to, and once saw a very spontaneous, actual wedding. There's a lot of really cool history in that place. It's over 100 years old and it's an official historical landmark in the United States. There's a lot of lore behind it. Stories of being haunted. It's a really amazing place to see. Plus, it's shaped like a coffee pot, how can you beat that?

This place has a fun history dating back to 1927! The building has served many purposes over the years, serving the public as everything from a fast food drive-thru to a speakeasy. The building has also been featured in several films, including "I Love You to Death," and Cameron Crowe's "Say Anything." These roadside America kitschy buildings amuse me greatly, and I'll always go out of my way to visit them when I can. Bob's Java Jive doesn't disappoint!

I'm not sure what to say, as there has been vacillating for some time on whether or not the club stays open. Part of me hopes it's not true, because it's really sh1tty to have to say goodbye to a wonderful pillar I've been visiting loyally and nearly every weekend (sometimes twice!) since its opening. I have a feeling this time it's really shutting its doors, though. That's truly a pity. It really is (was?) a very cool setup, and Tacoma was sorely lacking a legitimate dance club. The owner saw that, and damn, he tried. The *only* thing that bummed me out about the club was that patrons weren't really interested in it as a dance club at all, only as a karaoke bar. Those are a dime a dozen! The club owner had big visions for Tacoma's first dance club, but everyone clamored for karaoke and dance nights were poorly attended. Bummer, since the place was designed for gettin' down, with a generous dance floor and several humongous, wall mounted flat-screen TVs upon which to display music videos, media, and - of course - classic footage of go-go dancers shakin' their groove thangs. *fans self* I will miss seeing a Hilltop dance club with Pride flags, a BLM flag, and other affirming decor. I will miss feeling safe, knowing that the owner stood by his word and did everything he could to make women feel safe there. If ever I told the owner someone was being creepy, he dealt with it swiftly and completely. None of this "well, we talked to him, and we think it'll be okay now, we're gonna let him stay unless something else happens" (which I often hear at other clubs) and expecting the women to deal with a creepster sticking around and us all feeling uneasy for the night. I will miss my little "church". Also, I am sad for a dear friend I made there who cannot drive due to a medical condition, and who had finally found a "home base" within walking distance of their apartment. This is a significant loss to many. Farewell, Go-Go.

There's a pond, a fire pit, cozy box seats, even a drum at the counter. My friend and I literally spent 5-10 minutes just walking around trying to decide where to sit because every spot looked so fun. The drinks are just as impressive. Super exotic, beautifully presented, and all served in unique tiki mugs. Mine came in a monkey mug, which made it even better. At one point, the bartender even lit my cocktail on fire -- such a fun touch. Speaking of the bartenders, they were fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. They really made the whole experience feel special. I only wish I lived closer. This would easily be my regular spot. Definitely coming back next time I'm in the Seattle area.
