My husband, Gary Johnson, has been Vanderman Place & will soon come home on hospice. The care he's had is very good. I have felt that I've been surrounded by angels at a very difficult time. From housingkeeping to nursing, this such a caring place. The social service director, Lucy, was such a big help to us. I had the pleasure of staying 4 weeks in Vanderman's Place in Willimantic for my rehab. From the strong PT program to the skilled and kind nursing staff, I give it 5 stars! The food isn't that appealing but I had the option to order out so it wasn't an issue. Overall a very caring and dedicated staff bringing you comprehensive care from several disciplines, nursing, doctors, psychiatrists etc. Upon arrival I couldn't even stand up after my extensive surgery but after 4 weeks of PT I was able to walk with a walker and expected to walk independently soon! I can definitely recommend this gem of a place! read more

Vanderman Place has excellent staff and really cares about their patients. They are under completely new management and have gone from a one star to a four star facility in less than two years. Vanderman Place is a great place to work. Staff is dedicated and resident focused. Recently a female resident was discharged back to her home after short term rehab. I work here and currently am looking for a new job. I would advise you to not waste your time with this building. The management is terrible and unorganized. Most nurses do nothing to help the cnas and all pressure is put on cnas when we are understaffed (which is most days). The staffing ratios are almost always unsafe, and patient care by some aids just doesnt happen, or is poorly preformed. Terrible facility that should be shut down. read more

I wish I could give this dump of a place zero stars, that what it deserves. I only spent four horrifying, dreadful days there, that was four days too many. A nurse tried to sell me drugs, another nurse gave me another patients narcotic medication, my surgical wound became infected because no one would take care of it, I didn't get my insulin and diabetes meds on time, sometimes not at all. The food was disgusting, I didn't eat or drink a single sip or bite while I was there. The whole place was filthy, black mold on the shower walls, bugs on the ceiling at night, my bed was never changed, my room and bathroom were never cleaned, I had no towels. It took at least two hours for someone to respond when I pushed the nurse-call button. The emergency exit right next to my door was where patient went out to smoke 4-5 times per days, the emergency door was propped open so my room filled up with smoke and smelled like an ashtray. Definitely NOT a nursing home or rehab facility, just a flop house staffed by the dregs of the earth. Stay away from this place!!!!! read more
