Grant Street Pier

On a recent visit with friends, we were all very impressed with the continuing development along the Columbia River. There are many great restaurants here and lots of features to explore. It was a warm night when we were there so we saw tons of people, families and children having a great time. Some playing in the water feature, others relaxing on the grassy areas between the walkways. My favorite feature was the iconic, cable-stayed Grant Street Pier that juts out over the river (see photo). Trust...

A nice lovely place to go for a brisk walk and enjoy the view into Portland from Vancouver. The walk is nice although rather short. It is rather pricey to go here since you must pay for parking. There's a good assortment of restaurants/bars to enjoy if you're on a date.

The Vancouver Waterfront is fantastic! If only Portland would take notice and realize that they could do the same. When you contrast the two waterfronts, there is no comparison. Vancouver is leaps and bounds better - clean, no tents and homeless and drugs. Just a wide, clean, well lit path along the water with clean restrooms, green space, and lots of restaurants, tasting rooms and cocktail lounges to enjoy. Many condos, parks and trails Also line this area. Having lived in Portland for 22 years, I've seen the massive decline that lack of leadership creates. I had never really spent time in Vancouver, only going there to visit friends who moved there 7 years ago when Portland first started to decline. I teased them about living in "Vantucky" and how there was nothing worth visiting in Vancouver other than them. Flash forward 7 years and I'm eating my words. When friends and I want a nice meal with a gorgeous view, in a place where we feel safe parking and walking and don't want to be surrounded by tents, filth and graffiti, we head to Vancouver. Which means, I frequent those restaurants more than the ones in Portland these days. Parking is cheapest on the street where you only have to pay the meter until 6pm, use the Parking Kitty app for convenience. If no street parking, use the lots where you have to pay for all hours and they ticket if you are even five minutes late. So don't try to beat paying the parking or you will pay far more in a ticket. The Vancouver Waterfront is an example of what can be accomplished And how to create usability of prime real estate for all to enjoy. This area has contributed to the city's growth, jobs, tourism and is a gateway to Vancouver and the rest of Washington.

The waterfront and pier area is a great spot for a short walk, dining, and hanging out. The views, especially at night, are simply amazing. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to explore, and the area is very clean and modern. The paved roads make for an easy stroll, and there are some great wineries nearby to enjoy as well.

On the north bank of the Columbia River, is Vancouver's waterfront development that brings the downtown to the river's edge. The focal point of this area is the cable-stayed pier and magnificent water feature. The park incorporates areas for picnics, biking, riverfront access, walking trails, a water feature and an expansive greenspace. Its scattered with beautiful restaurants and apartments and provides a very modern yet scenic appeal . To say I absolutely love seeing the sunsets here would be an understatement . No matter what time of the day , the waterfront is always lively -there is live music , kids playing , lots of people hanging out in the area , I have even seen a proposal or two on the pier. It is open to the public from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m and there are no fees. There is a huge parking lot right across the street and also metered street parking.

As a (former) lifelong resident of Vancouver, I was pretty skeptical of the waterfront project when they first announced it. Before I knew it, buildings began to spring up and to life all down the renovated strip of riverfront real estate, and I had to check it out. Downtown Vancouver had been struggling for decades, and several prominent local businesses and enterprises (The Holland restaurant, Lucky Brewery, etc) had faded away into memory, and urban decay had begun to set in. The area around Esther Short gentrified, but it seemed as if that momentum was lost, since nothing else of significance had happened for quite some time. Then the Waterfront project happened, and for once, there's hope of true transformation to modernity in Vancouver, and that is a welcome change! There are some truly fabulous restaurants, wine tasting rooms, parks, walks and trails here. I've reviewed several individually, so I won't expand on them here, but as a communal and commercial space as a whole, the Vancouver Waterfront is exactly what this town needed. Modernity. Relevancy. Sophistication. Fun. Worth a visit just to see what's new, what's going on, and what's yet to come, as things continue to grow and expand. The gateway to Washington State on the I-5 corridor (and one of the few border crossings of significance in the state) has needed this for quite some time. Finally, we have something to show off!

The path offers great views of the Columbia River, with boats drifting by and the distant image of Mount Hood.

Four stars for Vancouver Waterfront Park, a place so pleasant it almost convinces you humanity…read moreisn't a total bust. You've got the river doing its best impersonation of tranquility, bridges stretching like lazy cats across the sky, and the whole area smelling faintly of wood-fired pizza and expensive hair product. It's beautiful. Truly. You can sit on a bench and pretend you're in a beer commercial. Salt and Straw serves up ice cream so good it makes you wonder why you ever bothered with hope. The winery pours wine so delicious that it feels like it has a grudge against sobriety. There are restaurants with menus full of things your grandmother never heard of. And there's a Hotel Indigo, which sounds like a place a jazz musician would live if he ever got his act together. The problem, of course, is the "look at me" young adults. There are flocks of them in cars they can't quite afford, all of them addicted to the sound of their own engines on their Instragram. They circle like moths who think the park is a particularly sexy porch light. They rev and honk and idle in a way that says, "Pay attention! I am loud and without purpose." It's like a car show had a baby with a midlife crisis, only sold tickets to participants who find the 20th century to be ancient history and dropped the whole thing off right next to your outdoor table. Still, beauty is beauty. The water doesn't care who's making noise. Neither do the bridges. They've seen worse. So have I. Four stars.

I'm not really rating Cascade AC on the whole in this review but rather their policy or lack…read morethereof. I enjoy swimming and Cascade has the best pool in the area so participation here is a matter of limited selection. My problem is the lack of policy/signs/refereeing something that keeps inconsiderate lane swimmers in line. Cascade has no posted policy or signs that direct how people should behave when there are others waiting for a lane. Since there are numerous older adults that seem to have developed blindness because they don't 'see' people waiting nor do they ask anyone. Instead, they see someone getting out of the pool and head directly to the lane that just opened up simply not caring that others are waiting. Most people seem to want to avoid conflict so nothing gets said empowering those who are already feel privileged enough to just jump in. Then there's me. I will say something and I might not be nice about it because your rudeness put you in my path. So, lane cutters if you can't turn to those waiting and ask then expect to get called out or for me to jump in 'your' lane. I simply won't stand for your rude behavior or whatever excuse you have for being like you are. As for Cascade - this on you. You have no policy, no guidance and no monitoring leaving us adults to police themselves. Fortunately, most do an exceptional job of policing themselves and have decency and courtesy. However, there are some that don't possess decency and probably have limited self-control when confronted about their behavior that could lead to an altercation between parties. If this were to happen to me you can bet that I would seeing you in court... And, while you are pondering this matter please scrub the pool! It's filthy. The walls and floor of the pool are coated in brown slime that cause slip when trying to push off. P.S. this also applies to those that are in a lane and invite someone that just shows up to join them instead of the next person in line as it should be. Friends don't get a free pass to the head of the line.

The recent upgrades and ongoing maintenance make for a comfortable and enjoyable experience…read more Staff friendliness is at a high level and rate this club as a safe place for all.

A small cove cut out for the beach , kite surfing or watching, beautiful water views, Mt. hood, beautiful people watching, playgrounds, it's all here and worth the visit! It was so nice to be able to let the kids just hop in the water and swim freely! (because I sure as heck I'm not gonna pack lifejackets on my trip who does that?!) It is known for its concentration of craft breweries in the downtown area, and the ability to consume alcohol publicly on open sidewalks and parks. My wife, mother-in-law, and I drove intentionally to see the city during our visit to the Gorge, and stopped by the famous Park next to the River. It was drizzling and cold this day, so finding free street parking was easy. We found a place to sit, and admire the brave souls surfing. There is a small beach area, and children life jackets to share. And a nice grassy area with playground equipment.
