We went in thinking we wanted a used A24 but upon sitting in it and talking with Avery about the features and differences between it and a T23, we were confident we were making the right choice getting a 2019 T23. He was kind to take us out and demo it with my wife and kids and let me surf the wave. Most of our deal was done via text because I was out of town with crappy signal. Big props to Chantel in financing who also was quick to reply, got us a great rate and made the deal go off without a snag. What has impressed me most is Avery's continual support and being available to take my newbie questions even though the sale was completed last week. I'm happy we did. Our driver Doug was fantastic and mixed in the perfect amount of education, fun, and humor into his talk track. I learned some things about Portland that I wasn't ever aware of! Would definitely recommend doing this on a HOT day as you will definitely get wet. We went out in a 90+ degree day, and thus the water spray was cool and refreshing. In lower temps I can assure that you will likely get cold given the speed of the boat and temp of the water. First couple rows, you'll likely get soaked, so sit towards the back if you want to avoid that.

With three passengers, we got a max speed of 30 kts and cruised very comfortably on plane at 22 kts. This is not a new boat and is missing its windshield, but it has a bimini shade and plenty of seating. The seat conditions and such are expected of an older boat, but we are here for the Oregon water experience, not two-tone leatherette. There is no online booking, so text PDX Watersports and the response is fast. Coordinating times and getting a price quote was super easy too. If you are used to renting from overpriced corprate operators, think of this as the opposite-- the hometown small business owner. Chinook Landing boat ramp has plenty of parking and is out of the Portland traffic/busy areas. If you are renting on the 4th of July or some other peak day, expect peak conditions at launch and on the river. We had a quiet, summer Friday on the water instead. Deposit was returned within 60 minutes of getting back to the dock (and inspecting the boat and prop of course!). I would definitely recommend PDX Water Sports if you are an experienced boater looking for a great time on the Columbia or Williamette. I sense a lot of the negative reviewers are people who don't know much about boating, planing speeds, weight distribution, or safe operation of a vessel. Looking forward to doing this again the next time we visit Portland!

The only instructions in the email as to this new location was "lake launch inside Milo McIver State Park". No directions were provided. Thus it would be assumed the actual location would be easy to find. I gave myself a 10 minute buffer to park and find the group. Map directions guide you to south entrance road. Once you pay & drive down, you come to a fork in the road (pics below showing signs). How do I know which boat ramp; there are 2? Since the directions indicated lake launch, I chose the right for Estacada Lake. Cut to 30 minutes later; I have now driven BOTH forks and there is no sign of a group that would indicate Clackamas River Outfitters or a paddleboarding group. I am so frustrated over the wasted time and money. When you are being paid for a service, it is your job to provide clear instructions; not just for the class itself, but how to get there. The best choice would have been for them to send a google/apple map pin to the exact location. If for some reason, that wouldn't work, then you should provide step by step instructions on where the group is to meet (IE, after entering, make a right/left, etc). I would have loved to call someone, but phone service was really shoddy in the park. Don't waste your time or money.

The instructor, Grayson, did a fantastic job modeling techniques and answering questions as the class progressed. One of my main concerns was getting back on board after falling off. This was one of the first things that was addressed and we were shown a couple different ways to do it. There was one person who struggled a little bit, but Grayson was quick to help and offer alternative options. This class was an excellent value for the money, and it has made me feel confident joining my friends on their paddling adventures.
