I probably could have replaced my daughter's broken hand break by myself. Instead, I was willing to pay someone else for the service. Vance's had high Yelp reviews, so I decided to bring them my business. When my daughter and I dropped off her bike, I also decided to pick up an inner tube for my wife's bike. They didn't carry the proper size, but were willing to sell me one that came in one of the other bike's that they had for sale. Price was $5.00. when I mentioned that I could pick one up for $3.50 at Walmart and wondered if they'd work with me over that buck-fifty, the response I received was, "Absolutely not." Rather stunned at the rude response, I was then told, "Vance will kill me if I did." Wow. That Vance must be a real slave driver. I received a call back the next morning with an estimate. I gave the approval for the repair, to which I was told it would be done within the hour. I asked them to please call me to confirm when it was done. Three hours later, my wife was out and in a convenient location to pick up the bike. So I called to see if it was done. I was then quoted the price for repair again and told that they just needed approval to do the repair. When I explained that we already had this conversation three hours ago, and that I was told it would be done in an hour, the response I received was, "Yeah, well, we've been real busy in the shop today. We'll finish it when we can. So much fun to receive another rude remark. After my wife returned home 25 minutes later, almost immediately I received a call that the bike was done. So I had to waste an hour to head back out to go pick up the bike. Look, I'm not a big bicycle guy, but my kids really love to do it, so it has become a great regular family time for us. My daughter slipped on some sand and went down and broke the hand break and some of her confidence in riding. It's Dad's job to make it all better, right? I'm sure Vance and his crew are as great as all of the other terrific reviews that you can read on Yelp, but I will not be going back the next time my family's bikes need service. I don't like being treated like I need them more than they need my business, and I certainly don't like being lied to at the convenience of the lazy employees at Vance's, nor being spoken to so aggressively when I simply made an inquiry about the difference of a whole $1.50 for an out-of-box inner tube, particularly after I was about to give them another $29 dollars for their inconvenience of fixing a kid's bike brake. Next time, I'll certainly try other shops. I'd rather buy a new bike than give Vance and his disrespectful employees my business again. Sorry to inconvenience you with my business John. Maybe you should stick to riding your motorcycle parked out back. Maybe you can use that $1.50 for another tattoo on your arms. read more
