Public school or private? That debate is as old as the Bible and, speaking of the Bible, Catholic…read moreschool is a nice middle-ground alternative. Smaller classes and more money in the classroom, but not the twice-as-high tuition bill of the privates. And you don't have to be Catholic (or male) to attend Notre Dame. It's co-ed now, and I would guess that at least 50% of the students are not Catholic. I don't have a student at the school, but I speak at Notre Dame's annual college fair (representing one of the University of California schools). Every year, I'm super impressed with the students I meet, in terms of academic preparation, college readiness, thoughtfulness and a genuine love for their school. It's high end of course, as the long line of Range Rovers tell you every morning at drop-off-time. Students are engaged in classes, sports, clubs and activities. They were ready at the college fair with questions about college majors, two-year vs. four-year options and completing the UC common application. While I see only a very small slice of high school life at the college fair, the students are impressive and that says a lot. Worth considering!

I graduated from NDHS when Jimmy Carter was POTUS. Great experience. Can't really compare that…read moreschool with current one. Almost unrecognizable to me when I visit LA now. I never really got over the school going co-ed. Back in my day it was just 800 Catholic boys (and a couple Jews). Parents rarely ventured on campus. There were 3 women on campus (a secretary and two ladies who cooked the hot lunch in the cafeteria). But the parking lot filled up with cars from the girls' schools as soon as the last bell rang. The freshman got hazed. Personal disputes were settled (one-on-one), on the back lawn of the Brothers' House. Tuition was $550/yr. It was not an expensive, fancy prep school filled with the children of the rich & famous. It was far more "Lord of the Flies," than "Jesus Lord & Savior." We did stupid things, but no one ever got expelled. Nobody got in trouble for things that happened off campus (that was left to parents and LAPD). No cell phones/text messages/smart phones/social media. Unless you saw it happen, it was all rumor, plausible deniability and a conspiracy of silence. I went on to USC, and then became an attorney, but my two best friends in the world are guys I met when we were freshman at NDHS over 50 years ago. I sent both of my sons to an all-boys Catholic HS in Northern California because I wanted them to have a similar experience.

From the very beginning, Emek provided our children with a warm, nurturing, and structured environment where they felt safe, supported, and truly cared for. The teachers are not only knowledgeable and professional, but also deeply invested in each child's personal growth. They take the time to understand every student's strengths, challenges, and personality, and that individual attention makes a huge difference. Academically, our kids received a strong education that prepared them well for the next stages of their lives. The curriculum is thoughtful, challenging, and balanced, combining strong general studies with meaningful Jewish education. Our children learned how to think critically, work hard, and take pride in their achievements. At the same time, they were never just treated as "students," but as whole people. Socially and emotionally, Emek truly shines. Over the years, our children made real friendships that lasted beyond the classroom. They learned how to respect others, work as a team, handle responsibility, and develop confidence in themselves. The sense of community among students, families, and staff is something special and not easy to find. One of the things we value most is the strong foundation of values Emek instills. Our children learned kindness, respect, integrity, responsibility, and connection to their Jewish identity in a meaningful and positive way. These lessons were not just taught, but modeled daily by the faculty and administration. As parents, that gave us tremendous peace of mind. The administration is approachable, responsive, and genuinely cares about the families. Communication has always been clear, and we felt listened to whenever we had questions or concerns. You truly feel like a partner in your child's education rather than just another parent on a list. Watching all four of our children grow, mature, and thrive through their years at Emek has been incredibly rewarding. Each child had their own unique journey, yet all of them walked away with strong academics, lifelong friendships, and solid values that will guide them throughout their lives. We highly recommend Emek Hebrew Academy to any family looking for a school that combines excellent education, strong values, and a warm community. Emek didn't just educate our children -- it helped shape who they are today, and for that, we will always be thankful.

She is learning about cultures, languages, yoga, dance, and art, plus math and reading! I'm blown away. I truly can not recommend Greenleaf Mindful Montessori enough. The casual environment only adds to the comforting mindset that allows my daughter's brain and heart to be wide open. This is not a daycare. This is a pre-- School where children learn and thrive and learn to learn and thrive even more when they sadly will have to move on to the next level of life and education. Ms Vanessa and the entire team of teachers are so lovely and caring and are always coming up with the most creative activities. I will never forget attending the Thanksgiving Potluck and was amazed at how the children made the table cloths, did the flower arranging, and decorated centerpieces for the tables. It truly was a work of art! For their end of year show, the teachers had written and composed all the music and songs that the children learnt! No other school would do that, and I think it instills such creative values in the children. Since attending, my child's creativity has just blossomed and it's been so amazing to see. The teachers also focus on numbers, the alphabet, and learning about other countries and cultures. Plus, they learn french, yoga, and music. It really is a well-rounded Montessori curriculum. I also love that the school has a clean eating policy and serves healthy snacks. If you are a parent looking for a nurturing school that is going to inspire your child, Greenleaf is it! I couldn't be happier with my decision to send my child here.

In my opinion being kind, respectful, and nice should automatically been granted and given to people. Especially to the ones that work, preach and welcome you into their beautiful church. This review is specifically about father Mike and the others that work the community. He is very condescending, pretentious, and not very kind. PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH father Mike!!! People at this church are not very nice, nor are they kind or friendly, They walk away from you or and don't care what you have to ask or say. I have already experienced this at this church at least 5 times by different people...including father Mike. If they don't know you and you are not their favorite or a regular face that they see, they will ignore and silence you right infront of you. If that's NOT RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL, then what do you call this kind of BEHAVIOR?? AND THESE ARE CHURCH PEOPLE? PART OF THE CONGREGATION?? BE NICE, KIND AND RESPECTFUL to everyone and treat everyone with kindness, respect and fairness. And it doesn't cost anything. If they started charging for kindness...they would shape up and get their acts together. Yesterday was Easter Sunday and I called around 10:45am to find out if there was a mass and the time for the last mass. A man answered the phone with an attitude and anger in his voice and said YES, IT'S EASTER. I said I know it's Easter, but what time is the last mass??He then was more curt, short, rude, and abrupt with his one word answer and said 12. To top that off he hung up on me before I got a chance to say thank you. This happened few times with me at this church with their people. Totally UNACCEPTABLE!!! Is this how GOD wants people to treat one another?? The church itself is beyond BEAUTIFUL, BRIGHT and I felt in love with it instantly. That is when I started going there in the beginning. I truly loved going there for the past 6 years. Now, I feel like I am on pins and needles when I have to walk in. I feel like I am NOT WELCOME HERE at St. Francis De Sales Roman Catholic Church. But that's ok. God sees everything and watches everyone from above. I believe it is time for me to find another church to go to where I am much more WELCOMED!! I wish I could have given 5 stars, but for now after all this that I have witnessed and experienced...2 stars will do until they change their attitude and behavior. One star for the beautiful church, and the second star for the garden and outside of the church. The architecture. Last but NOT least, when it is time for donation and accepting other type of donations/offerings such as, clothes, shoes, food etc...they put their fake smiles along with their poker faces and accept my donation/S HAPPILY with OPEN ARMS.
