I live up a flight of 18 stairs, and I'd had foot surgery, so I needed someone who could get me up…read moreand down those stairs. I called ahead and made reservations for the trip home from the hospital, and then for two round trips for follow-up appointments. I made sure to tell them about the foot situation and the 18 stairs. The trip home from the hospital went off without a hitch. However, the first follow-up trip was a disaster. I had called that morning to confirm my reservation. Since they had worked with me before, had my address, and knew about the stairs, I thought they would have kept this information in the notes. Well, for whatever reason, the crew arrived at my home without the equipment needed to get me up the stairs. They went back to get this equipment, and I tried three times (unsuccessfully) to contact the doctor's office. The crew also tried unsuccessfully to contact the doctor's office. This part is the fault of the doctor's office, since they never answer their f'ing phone. The crew did get me to the doctor's office....only for me to be told upon arriving that the doctor had left for the day. Hospital to Home goofed by not having the equipment ready; and the doctor's office goofed by never frigging answering their phone. I don't think I should have to pay the doctor's office for the missed appointment. And I think Hospital to Home should at least give me a hefty discount for this wasted trip. ---------------- In the interest of fairness, I am providing this update. I was contacted by Hospital to Home, and we discussed what could be done to rectify the matter. I was issued a refund for the charge made for the botched service, and a note was included in my file addressing the need for special equipment to navigate the stairs. I would like to commend Hospital to Home for this gracious resolution, and good service.

I felt like I won a war today. I wish I was speaking hyperbolically, but I knew I was not going to make it through this year if something didn't change and this was the first something , HOSPITAL TO HOME .I apologize to the people I rode with today because I was so excited. I was like an overstimulated child.. compared to the person I was last week who did not know how to make one more phone call begging for help too many times being verbally abused. Never knowing who was going to show up or if anyone was going to show . I experienced situations that just should not happen. I hope other companies look at this and realize the time has come for change and that people are dying if you don't get to your oncologist or your surgeon, your radiology chemo, testing, etc. your pharmacy to buy groceries sometimes you don't get to live or the consequences of your life are so catastrophic , you have no quality of life. People in these situations are already dealing with enough and all we're asking is to get from A to B safely and on time. . Everything we do and say in this life matters .

She did receive meds from the EMT prior to leaving our home; however, there's no way the medicine totaled that dollar amount. Additionally, they added on expenses because I rode in the ambulance as well. I'm not sure what else they'd expect when transporting a minor. Honestly, this should be illegal.

I suffered what was diagnosed as a Level II trauma with an internal injury with minor bleeding. I had gotten myself to Retreat Hospital in the Fan but they are not equipped for long term care for my type of injury short of diagnosis. I was transferred to Doctor's Henrico. The services required was literally just an ambulance ride. No pushing of meds, no special needs, just travel. And as noted, the team in the ambulance were top notch. However, I just got the bill. $1,507 for what is classified as Basic Life Saving (BLS) and $279 in mileage fees for a distance of 8.5 miles according to google (~$33/mile). Because not all insurance companies negotiate with regional providers, only $500 was covered by my insurance using national rates for BLS. But still, $1,800 for the bus, 1 driver and 2 EMTs and 8.5 miles of actual travel seems a little ridiculous. If something like this ever happens again and I'm in Richmond, I'll ask the hospital staff to alert the other hospital I'm coming and call an Uber.
