One of the more clustered stores. There's a lot of things just stuffed in this store. There's back area where children books etc are, is thrown together. Things are usually on the floor in this area. A worker harassed me and cornered me into responding because I was testing out one of the products. He was yelling at me and wouldn't leave until he forced me to respond back to him and acted like I was not allowed to see the already opened product. He made me feel unsafe and stared me down until I left. Completely unprofessional and I hope he feels better knowing he made a teenage girl feel unsafe within the store. read more

I applied here for a side job, and it was a horrible experience for many reasons. There is always a sign on the door saying they are short staffed, but it makes sense now. This place is filthy and disgusting, and you are expected to get on your hands and knees to clean for minimum wage ($10 at the time, i am an adult) I would work my ass off, bending over picking up hangers, clothes, etc. I even got praise for how fast I picked up on register and organizing clothes. I worked here for a week, and got fired for "being too slow". The ONLY reason wrote down. Literally wrote down on a piece of paper. I have a disability and i'm autistic, and they were aware. I was very professional and nice, I did my job, and I feel I even worked too hard for the pay. I walked into work with no warning and was handed a paper for termination with those words written and told not to come back. Not to mention they forgot to give me my temporary card for pay, so they were straight up not even going to pay me for my work. I felt discriminated and treated differently for my disability. Completely unprofessional and had me walking out crying. Now when i come back to shop, I see new workers every time, they cannot keep their employees. read more

Yikes! I've been to cleaner and more organized Value Worlds. Certain stores are certainly a hit or miss, this one seemed to be on the miss side. The selection didn't offer many newer designs of clothes like other thrift stores but they do sometimes offer older collection pieces. You'll find the 80s prom dresses for Halloween with a yellow rain jacket similar to the one Georgie from It wore. The last time I visited this store, they were selling the *NSYNC dolls from Its Gonna Be Me era. That was pretty cool... The downside of this whole experience was how dirty this store was. It needs a face lift that includes better lighting and cleaner floors! I get it, some thrift stores have not been updated since 1984, but can they at least check the clothes before they put them on the rack? (Check the photos posted) I found a WAD of hair attached to a blouse. The teenagers stocking the racks should have been able to see something like this. read more

There would be 3 Value Worlds that I know of,, one right here,, a humongous one in Taylor and the newer of the 3 is over at Ann Arbor. This very one is the best of them all. The other 2 is usually a hit or miss, but for some reason, I usually find something to purchase here in this store every time I pay it a visit.   If you want clothes and gently used branded items, sometimes you get lucky here. Even new out of the box items can be found as well if you have timing and perseverance in your hand. I usually come here because of their book selections. They're dirt cheap and are usually in pretty good condition. There are also house wares that are in gently used condition.   So if you've recently just acquired a place and in need of some plates and glasses,, this is the most cost effective way to do it. Some of the things are so nice and in awesome condition, I even boxed them up one time and gifted them at a house warming.   Whatever you can think of, you might be able to find it here. If you're crafty, there's unlimited potential to all of the things you can find here. It's not the cleanest out of all the resale shops I've encountered. Although the sense of accomplishment you feel when you find a nice item is superb.   People love a bargain,, and there's no better bargain than here at Value World. This as far as I'm concerned is the best thrift shop you'll find anywhere in Metro Detroit. This is my go-to place to get nice wood picture frames. They are usually less than two dollars. A steal! The housewares section has some really good cheap finds and the people are so nice here - weirdly both the employees and the other shoppers! The organization is decent, but overall the place is small. I come here to browse sometimes, but really it's when I now I need frames. It can be get pretty crowded on the weekend, but the lines move pretty fast. Parking is plenty! Just go. read more

Don't shop here on weekends unless you like rampant children a lot, that's first and foremost. This is a great place to buy Halloween costumes, back to school clothes or a formal dress on the cheap. There's clothes for everyone here, whether you're skinny, fat, tall or short... they've got it... somewhere. This place is all about searching. This store is not the cleanest and the ceiling even leaks when it rains. Some of their items can appear dirty but I think it's because they have fallen on the dusty floor at one time or another. Some items are overpriced simply because the store noticed a name brand. However, there are some gems here but you have to commit to spending a couple of hours inside to find them. Be prepared to dig. I have found cute outfits here (some brand new) but again, I spent time digging through all of the crap peppered in. I have also found some unique jewelry (real silver too), and a brand new paper shredder for just a few bucks. My best find was a unique cape looking thing from the 70's. My bf spotted it and thought it was cool. Off the rack, I thought it was kind of ugly. He forced me to try it on and I fell in love. It was $13 which seemed high since it appeared older. It was so different than anything I had seen though so I bought it. It gets better!!! I took the cape jacket thingy to get dry cleaned. The dry cleaners offered to buy it for $150. Apparently, it was vintage couture and possibly a runway item from the 60's/70's and after it was professionally cleaned, it was in excellent condition. I kept it and couldn't be happier. All in all, I like this store. Yes, it has it's downfalls and yes, there always seems to be very obnoxious children running about but if you can get past the crap, the goods inside are worth it. Oh, and they send out 1/2 off coupons to area residents every couple of months. Keep your eyes open for this magical coupon that comes with your junk mail. 1/2 off your total bill. Final note, this is a great place to get dog blankets. We get new blankets for our dogs every couple months instead of filling our washer/dryer with dog hair. They have an endless selection of quality and cheap blankies. Your pooches will thank you. :-) read more

Value World as it's called now is a great place to bargain shop. Just be prepared to spend upwards of two hours finding decent clothing. I try to avoid going on the weekends and directly before Halloween as those are when it is busiest. Keep an eye out in the NewsHerald for the coupons they occasionally put out. All in all a great thrift store catering mainly to your clothing needs but you can also find bric-a-brac, kitchen utensils,dishes, books, and records on the cheap. This store has been there since I was a little girl. Lots of clothes, brick-a-brack, shoes, toys, etc. I like shopping at thrift stores and realize they just are what they are. This one is a little stinky. I've stopped in to see what bargains I can get and have left simply because the line was waaaaaaay too long. I think they have coupons in the News Herald offering half off your entire purchase. Make sure to check out the purses. Those people only pull certain brands and will leave a $500.00 bag on the shelf and pull a $100 Coach bag. read more

This place is interesting, Ive found some great Tee's here, by Drifter and Diesel for a couple bucks. I hardly ever find jeans but its worth a look, as I've found some great skinny's made in the usa by Fallen, really great vintage blazers, Hugo Boss dress shoes, Ugg clogs, Ecco drivers, and even a brand new luggage!. Btw, great find @ Jenee, I hope you still have that cape thingy?? There are some great finds at this one, its always hit and mis tho. You just never kno. I do go here just about on a daily basis, I like to shop for great deals I do agree with the over pricing talk about the store, I have found items that I may have purchased had they been cheaper being that I am on a tight budget.. But yet I have found good items and treasures that were ok priced. The store is in desperate need of a janitor to clean it up a little and they need more shelving to display their items that are cramped up on the bottom shelves, a person has to be very careful when looking at things because of knocking over stuff.. I shopped at Value World in Southgate, MI on 4-10-2011 and was very disappointed! I was double charged for a single item and then overcharged by a total of $2.80. When I tried contacting the store, I was told the stores don't have individual phone numbers, thereby causing me the further expense of gasoline to run back to the store to correct THEIR mistake. Cashiers that pay more attention to what they're doing would be greatly appreciated. I normally enjoy shopping at Value World, but this was the second time I've been overcharged so enough is enough. I work too hard for my money to give it away because of a cashier's foolish mistake. read more
