Furnace stopped working in the middle of a pretty chilly evening. Red blinking LED error code looked up online indicated it was malfunctioning part that costs a few hundred dollars. Called Dan the very next morning, shared all the information with him. I didn't consider it an emergency, but Dan told me he could swing by in just a couple of hours anyway. Dan arrived on time, was super friendly and understanding (I was on a work call when he arrived), and got right to work. Based on the furnace's error code and what I read online, I was expecting the repair to cost several hundred dollars with parts+labor. However, Dan didn't just go straight to that solution but decided to do his due diligence and make sure there were no underlying issues or hidden problems. Turns out, there was an underlying issue that was causing the problem-- and it turned out to be a much simpler (and dramatically cheaper) fix. Value Heating and Air was referred to me by my wife's associate at work who also performs property management. The owner called me after hours after not being able to connect earlier in the day. Our main AC unit was out and he helped me over the phone with an error I made on a repair I performed that I had wired incorrectly. He spent 30 minutes on the phone discussing my options both presently and for the future regarding my 14 year old system. All this for no charge! This was prompted when the main AC unit was out and we had brought in another vendor (pink truck)who proposed a complete system change out. While I was pulled in for a while, I wisely sought a second opinion and was assisted by another honest vendor as well. Bottom line I went from a proposed $12K complete heating and air replacement, to a $6K AC replacement, to a $5K AC replacement, to (with kind free assistance) a $25.00 repair. This repair could have been performed by the first vendor for $250 and that would have been fair, but they were interested in the big sell and would say and do anything to achieve that goal. read more

I needed a professional Heating & AC company to come and check my furnace and AC unit out, and after asking around and searching the internet I chose Value Heating, Inc. of Star, Idaho. I was not disappointed. They were there right on time. In fact they called me to let me know when they would be there that day. When they arrived, Dan and his service technician went right to work checking and testing my systems. They found a bad electrical cable on my AC unit and asked if I wanted them to fix it, and I told them yes. I needed to make sure that everything was working good as I am in the process of selling this home. My only charge was for a service call and the price of the new cable. I told Dan about my bad experience I had with the guys in the Pink trucks a couple years ago in another home. I responded to a radio add to have my furnace and AC tuned up by this other company at a very low price. That is why I called them. The guys from this other business came and immediately told me that my heat exchanger had a crack. This could allow gas into my home, not a good thing. I asked if it could be repaired and they told me it would be very expensive and I would still have an older furnace. I was undecided what to do at that moment. Then I was told that they would have an inspector come and take a look, as a second opinion. So, I said fine. This "INSPECTOR" came, and he drove the same kind of Pink truck that these other guys were driving. I should have known that he would not be unbiased. The inspector agreed that my best course was to replace the furnace. Then the other service man came and told me that my AC compressor was drawing too much current, and should be replaced. It was a good thing that the "Inspector" Salesman was there. He got his sales materials and showed me my options for a new furnace and AC unit were. I wound up buying a $6000 heating and cooling system. It has worked fine, but I was very suspect about this transaction, but I had to take their word for what they were telling me. What I found out from Dan Ricken of Value Heating was this: Dan asked me if I was told by these 2 guys from other company who drive the Pink Trucks, that my heat exchanger would have had a 20 year warrantee on it? Well, Well, these guys in the pink truck failed to tell me that. If I had known I would have it repaired instead of replaced as my system was working well otherwise. So, If you want to have an honest evaluation, I would trust Dan of Value Heating, he gives you value and honesty. read more
