"Memories at Madison" was led by wonderful art therapists from Hofstra University. This is a neat event that involves both caregivers and loved ones. Today we collectively created a puzzle. My Dad had his widget, I had mine. After some unstructured drawing time (in my case *very* unstructured) we matched our pieces together. Then the entire class worked together to match the quilt work together. The development of artwork was challenging, rewarding and fun. I admit having my nose buried trying to sketch something . (Ok, anything.) But when it was time to work as a group I relaxed, as did Dad. There was much discussion to be had over shared experiences. "This is clever." I almost didn't hear my neighbor whisper. She came three hours late, when she was supposed to be at Plainview Hospital at 9am. She could talk about her son in great deal about how he was going out with a girl who had aides. She neglected my mom for three hours and my mom had to call up the agency to find out where she was. If anything bad would have happened, the aid would have gone to jail for neglect and the agency would have been held accountable legally. She also neglected my mom towards at the end of her life at Plainview Hospital. She went out for three hours, instead with my mom. My father came in the hospital room and didn't find her. She came back within hours and threw out of the room. On June 14 2024, my mom fell on the dining room floor. The aide Joyce didn't follow my father's instructions not to walk alone with her. Joyce the aide didn't call 911 and the agency. My father who I a retired physician did.
