Favorite grocery store to go to when I'm in town visiting my family. They ALWAYS have ingredients that other stores don't carry - especially when it comes to quality imported ingredients, spices, and produce (especially herbs!). The 20 minute trek from my house in Rockton makes it worth it to go out of my way to go to Valli, because I know they'll have what I need & I won't have to make a second trip to another grocery store. The prices, variety & quality of their ingredients can't be beat in Rockford! read more

If this was my only experience with a Valli, I'd never go back. This location is consistently garbage. Mushy produce, looks old and gross. LIMITED selection of shelved items. GO TO THE STATE STREET LOCATION. A MILLION TIMES BETTER. read more

Deceptive pricing. I will never go back. Over the years I have stopped in occasionally at Valli Produce. There has always been an unusual odor. I never have identified why, but most grocery stores don't stink like this one. Today I stopped in to get a few days groceries. As usual, I pick several extra items because of SALE tags. My wife and I both have the old Valli Produce card from years ago, so I type in my phone number on the keypad and confirm with cashier that it was accepted. She tells me that I would "ONLY GET THE SALE PRICES IF I HAVE THE APP!" I mentioned the sale price is the only reason I selected many items. She asked her manager if she could help by scanning her own app and the manager said they no longer do that for customers. Today this grocery store went from might stop at to never will again. There are plenty of more honest stores nearby. read more

VALLI Loves Park is closing in August. Why are they doing this? After they were sold they removed popular ethnic specialty items and a few bad meat experiences made us go less often. But Valli PRODUCE was pretty reliable. I think the corporate office needs to explain, in a Rockford/Loves Park ad, why they closed and if the Rockford store is safe? read more

I'm so sad to say that I won't be shopping at Valli anymore. In the beginning, the produce was so good, and everything was fresh. I have had some concerns over the last year, but have continued to shop there because their cashier Fran is so nice, and I appreciate the friendly customer service when she is working. However, I have lost money on expensive cold cuts that were nowhere near expired but rancid when I opened the package, bananas that were green on the outside and black on the inside, cucumbers that had no visible mold but tasted like mold, melons that were rotten inside, raw chicken that was slimey and smelled like ammonia, dairy products, broth and salad dressing with broken inner seals, and bad eggs. Today I came in for a few things. I noticed that many loaves of bread on the shelves had expired in the last couple days, but I've learned to check there, so I just didn't buy those. They had wrinkled up and dried out cucumbers also. What did me in, though, was picking up a package of bagels that did not expire for more than a month and a half and seeing a huge spot of mold on one and smaller amounts on others. I just walked out. The store is so convenient for me, but like I said, I can't go back. My stomach turns even thinking about it. read more

Deceptive Advertising!! My wife bought some pastries there because there was a sign that said "sale french pastries 2 for $3.00." Most of the pastries are $1.99 each. She got home and noticed she was charged full price. Called the manager who said that only one of the pastries was on sale-the boston creme pie pastry. Very misleading deceptive and dishonest. The young man who helped her told her he would call and check the price on it because he was confused about it too. He said he did and then made that mistake. She also bought 2 canolis, which were charged correctly, but were underfilled. At least this store hires the mentally disabled. read more

Lately the employees have been incredibly lazy at check out. I regularly shop here and I'm handicapped and I always have to hurt myself because the cashier refuses to put my grocery bags in my cart and other employees sit around and watch me struggle while helping other people with their groceries??!! read more

This store is out of my way, but I make the trip on occasion for one thing and one thing alone. Their guacamole is some of the best store bought guac you can get your hands on. I haven't had store bought guac from anyplace else that was as good as what they have. The only guac in town that is better is at some of the Mexican restaurants. If you're having a party and want a good Guac... this is the place! read more

Place is freaking huge! I liked the italian music playing in the background as I waled along the aisles looking for stuff. I bought about 100 dollars of groceries and went t my car and swore....forgetting Ihad a almost 2 hour drive back to chicago. Argh! great selection, prices were not bad (it IS Rockford)....staff was friendly and it was a little artsy inside. I liked it. It is connected to a strip mall so parking is plentiful. read more

Arrived at 745 to buy some fresh fish. sign says fish counter closed at 8. Sadly the guy had left and it took 3 associates, a supervisor and the manager on duty to learn I'm not getting fish. No one knows how to take fish out from behind the counter, put it on a scale and take my money. The supervisor was rude, and really clueless. The manager wasn't able to solve my problem, but at least he was empathetic. Truly seemed to agree that as a manager he should know how to sell a customer some fish. If there was a better option in town for fish, I would stop going there all together read more

It lost a star for having bad baguettes and buying a duck that no matter how long I cooked it, it never got soft (mature duck...it was gross). They're starting to have less of my favorite Asian produce, where I now will buy at Golden Market. But they have some AMAZING prices on stuff that's "old" in the back. 4 Avocados for $1.29? And 8 yukon potatoes for the same price? Maybe I shouldn't be telling this, oh well. read more

Amazing fruit and produce for sure. Pretty good ethnic aisle..my wife was looking for some Filipino ingredients but couldn't find them here or the Valli on East St. I have to say I was completely shocked at how awful the cannoli's were in the bakery section. They weren't fresh and the creme wasn't even soft-dont try them! My wife and I bought 3, took one bite and threw the rest in the garbage! Those are my complaints..the rest of the store I love! read more

This is the best grocery store I've ever been to. I *LOVE* shopping here. It has the largest selection of fresh produce in Rockford, and at the cheapest prices. They have weekly sales that are sometimes ridiculously low-priced (at least compared to all the other grocery stores in Rockford). They also have a decent sized selection of kosher and ethnic (Indian, Asian, Mexican, Polish, etc) foods. The deli area is also quite extensive. I think my only complaint is that their refrigerated/prepackaged deli-meats selection is quite limited, and it can be quite annoying when I don't feel like waiting to get meat at the deli counter... it can get semi-crowded here on the weekends. read more

This is an amazing grocery store. They have really great prices on all of their produce. They have one of the best bakeries in Rockford, especially for a grocery store. They have a very good selection of ethnic items from around the world. Every time I always feel like I haven't spent much money compared to the amount and quality of the food I've purchased. Their organic selection is laughably small, so shop elsewhere if that is what you are looking for. But, if you want really fresh and inexpensive produce, need ethnic items for a recipe, want to try a Greek malt soda, and you don't want to spend a lot of money then Valli is probably one of the only places where this can come true. read more

The store is a little dirty. But, the prices ate good and we've always got good fruits and veggies. Other food prices are a bit higher. The smaller store makes things convenient. Not much more to say. Good stuff! read more

Great produce and a FAB deli. I love shopping here for their fresh produce. They have great prices and a mailer that gives really low prices. They have a great selection of ethnic food. When I'm looking for a specific item I'm pretty positive I can find it here. read more

Word got to me that I should check this place out. So I figured why not...was everything I was hearing true? Out of this world produce, crazy cheap prices and an amazing selection of everything under the sun???? Hell yeah!!!! I will go out of my way to go here. I can't believe the deal I got on produce. I haven't seen produce like this since I was in Seattle. It looks like they are on steroids! Anyway, its all true. Honestly the best selection of produce and dried nuts and bulk candy around and ridiculous prices. I didn't check out the meat department or bakery. It was way too crowded. But from the deals that I saw, you really can't go wrong. I totally picked the wrong time to go...Saturday at noon however, I'll go back at a different time so I can grocery shop at my leisure. Definitely Rockford's best kept secret. If it is one anymore. read more

It's like a candy store for people who love to cook! So many varieties of vegetables, fruits, exotic anything you can imagine it's in that store! read more

I have to say this is the nicest grocery store chain in Rockford. I love the produce dept., so many choices that you do not have at any other local store. Did I mention this place is huge. Big selection on just about everything. I really like the Meat dept as well. First thing I can tell is Valli Produce butchers their meat like Woodmans. This is not preprocessed meat shipped in. They have great cuts and even better prices. I would have to recommend this to anyone that has not check them out yet. Well worth it. Thank you for having a clean grocery store with great options. I will continue to give you my business. My only suggestion would be to train your Meat dept on proper cooking times for your various stuffed items as well as fish and marinated items. We have been told wrong cooking temps and times multiple times. We do feel if you are pre-making something for the consumer, you should have proper cooking methods available. Thanks again read more

My parents excitedly told me about the opening of this new grocery store back in 2007. We went as a family to check it out, and it was like all my favorite grocery stores in Chicago rolled-up into one. I wasn't surprised to discover that Valli Produce started out catering to Chicago's large and varied immigrant community which is why there is so much imported, gourmet food, but even more impressive are the prices. I feel like I'm paying Aldi/Gray's IGA prices for Whole Foods quality and selection. The meat counter is not quite as good as Whole Foods or Fox & Obel, but it is head and shoulders above Logli's, Jewel or Dominick's. My favorite selections are the freshly packaged nuts, dried fruit and candy, like gummy bears, Jordan almonds, chocolate covered pretzels and raisins. There are also tons of Polish chocolates and chocolate covered wafers. The produce section is 20% of the large store, full of strange vegetables that I couldn't begin to identify, hard to find fruits, but they also carry the usual suspects. The prices, again, are unbelievably affordable. They also have a lot of prepared meats and side dishes that are ready for you to pop in the oven, stove or grill - all the preparation done by their kitchen. Great when you're not in the mood to cook but not in the mood for take-out. Before finding Valli Produce, if I wanted to make sushi when in Rockford, I would have to buy all the ingredients in Chicago and bring them with. I can get everything I need now at Valli Produce. It is located in a rather inconvenient location, if you live in Rockford, and it doesn't help that every major street in Rockford is wrought with Grand Canyon size potholes so enough trips and you might need to replace a tire or all four. read more

This is my favorite store in town. Very spacious. Only place I'll buy fresh fruit and vegetables. They have so many unusual items that you can't find anywhere else. Great cheese and deli selection. They also have an amazing bakery which I adore. Nearly all the employees are friendly and terrific. The only exception would be an older gal who seems to always be at the bakery, she has been so frequently rude to the point where I now bypass buying anything from the bakery if she is the one working there when I come in the store. Other than this one issue, this store is absolutely wonderful. read more

I like shopping here...but this store has its problems. Produce is usually smaller than competitors...but I've learned to use the price match feature at other stores... Also, the produce can sometimes spoil very quickly. And my biggest complaint... Watch the clerks as they scan your produce...in particular the onions. They will ALWAYS try to charge you for the higher priced varieties... I have to tell them every single time that I didn't get Vadalia's ... I got Spanish onions. And they'll argue with me about it. One time I went and took a picture of the sign and price. I don't think it's ever a "mistake". I think after all the times I've caught them at it it's deliberate. It may not be much to us but at $.20 a pound difference to them it's huge. Valli Produce WILL try to cheat you on the produce prices if they think you're not watching. read more

I bought a pack of Boneless Chicken Breasts there on July 3rd. When I went to weigh and separate them to freeze I didn't like what I seen. There were a lot of bone piece that i had to remove, but the worse was the Gross piece of chicken that was in the pack! I took it back to the store but was told that there was No one for me to talk to about it. That I could try to come back with it. So, I took it home with me. But I do have pictures of it that I would like to show you. They will be shared on Twitter and Facebook and where ever else online that I can think of. I don't like it that I was told that there was No one there that I could talk to! I would like for you to see the pics but I'm not sure how to post them in this email? Please let me know how I can email you those pictures. I have been trying to send an email to you but it keeps coming back! Why can't I talk to anyone at the store or by email? read more

The best grocery store in Rockford, in my opinion. Fresh produce put out daily. You can find all type of fruits, veggies, spices, etc inside valli's that you wouldn't find at any other store. This is more of an international grocery store. The veggies are so fresh and cheap here, as well as fruits. Meat is cheaper here and they have a bigger selection. Valli produce has some of the best prices, always clean and organized as well. read more

I love my Valli. Great selection of produce, and the fresh departments are phenomenal. The fishy smell is finally gone. Product selection of some of my normal brands is lacking, sacrificed probably for the international variety which is amazing. Prices I guess are competitive when you shop the sales. read more

This is perhaps my favorite grocery store in the Rockford area. The food is super fresh and inexpensive. I can buy most of my groceries here no problem and they're all relatively cheaper than Schnuck's that's decided to take over the area. I would have rated with five stars based on this. However, every time I walk in the store it smells like vomit and that grosses me out a lot. The first time I visited, I shrugged it off as if milk had spilled or something, but apparently that's just the smell of the store. I just feel like a place selling food should at least not wreak of spoiled dairy product. read more

This is one of those places that you can go and just get everything on your list there. They have just about every kind of produce that you can think of, and more. When they first came here, I thought it would be one of those expensive Chicago based grocery stores. Turns out, they beat most of the competition. I have no doubts that anyone wouldn't enjoy this store. read more

PRODUCE: One-fourth of their space is dedicated to produce, so they have a large selection and variety. Their prices can be exceptionally low compared to others in town. The quality is hit or miss. Their produce can be pretty bland sometimes. They often advertise their melons as "sugar sweet" and by the time you slice it, it is anything but. The last time I purchased a watermelon it was all dried up inside. Wait for them to be in peak season before purchasing and hope for the best. Also, it doesn't seem like their produce has as long of a shelve life than other local stores. I have purchased bags of potatoes and onions that seem to go bad after 5 days. MEATS: I am not much of a meat buyer but occasionally buy their chicken. Since they don't offer the Angus cuts of beef, I usually go to the other grocer for meats. Their meats are often priced right with decent sales. SEAFOOD: Don't bother trying to have a conversation with the fishmonger because they won't understand a word you are saying unless you are Hispanic. They have a large "fresh" selection but I have a feeling that their seafood sits around longer than it should. DELI: They do have an interesting array of deli items (including salsa and guacamole that you can pick up right off the shelf section) but plan on waiting in line for 8-12 minutes. Their deli prices seem reasonable. The deli staff seems unorganized and chaotic at times and they do not speak the greatest English. Their attitude appears as if they are more important than their customers. DAIRY: Watch the expiration dates closely. They often advertise nice sales but I have noticed that the expiration dates can be up to one day off. INSIDE AISLES: I typically stay away from their inside aisles mainly because the items are very high priced there. ATMOSPHERE: Their customers are very diverse ranging from European to Arabic to Asian to Hispanic. Some of these customers were obviously use to being rude and pushy shoppers in their old country as I have witnessed plenty of pushing and shoving, butting in line, and not saying "excuse me" when you get bumped into. Maybe that is why they have to have a big, mean-looking security guard there. read more

Love the store, but they close earlier than their posted hours. they also start locking down before closing time, so you cannot shop in frozen area. I would rate them higher except for this very annoying policy. read more

I read that Valli Produce was started as an Italian grocer (even though there's only Mexicans working here now), and had a great selection of fresh produce. The first time I visited, I was AMAZED at the fresh produce section. It's HUGE! They have everything you could ask for in produce and their prices are usually better than Walmart and other grocery stores in the area. I go here to buy ALL my fresh produce because they have the highest quality and the biggest selection. I wish I could post a picture. Their other grocery items are comparable in price to the local grocery stores. They run sales too. If there's anything I can't STAND, it's the Christian music they play day in and day out! I'd rather listen to Muzak, and by no means am I a fan. I highly recommend this grocer to anyone looking for an excellent produce selection. read more

I still dream about this place and I haven't lived in Rockford since 2009. I love the wide array of international products. Their produce section is huge, fresh, and to die for. The seafood section always smelled a little funny, so we skipped that altogether, but even the liquor department was awesome. They have the neatest selection of bulk candies/snacks weighed out in plastic clamshells. read more

My husband is disabled, He has spent between $300 and $500 a month at the Valli in Loves Park for several years. Today he picked up a 4-pack of Starbucks cold coffee which had two kinds in it, At the check-out, he was accused of trying to "pull a fast one" by the clerk. He explained that it was like that when he picked it up, but the woman from customer service came over and was equally rude. Even though it was difficult for him to shop, he left the groceries there, We won't be back to Valli! read more

I have been shopping at Valli since it opened. I was very disappointed tonight. As usual I bought all my produce, lunch meat, and milk tonight and a few other extras. I checked out at register 3 and had the worst experience. First of all the customer in front of me had a lot of groceries. I think her bill came out to 200 or more. The cashier, bagger and looked like a supervisor could give a rat ass that she was there. Jennifer was our cashiers name and she was not even looking at the products she was ringing up. She was to busy gossiping with her fellow works. I con't know how the customer felt about this treatment. We did not talk. When it was my turn, Jennifer did say hello, but then treated me the same way. I work in retail and if I had associates treat customers like that they would all be wrote up or terminated. None of these three workers had name tags. Do they not have to wear them. Why advertise the store name and have no name tag. I will think twice about shopping there anymore. Think I will just take there ad an price match it at Walmart or some other store that cares who pays their cashiers wages. Valli needs to train their employees that the reason they have a job is because of the customer. No customers. No Jobs. read more

This is the best grocery store I have ever been to.....Hands Down! Their selection of produce and fruits are unparalleled and their super low prices make this store an exciting place to shop. The bakery serves a wide variety of cookies and pastries. I was a fan of their jalapeno foccacia bread which was awesome when warmed up with a hint of olive oil. The deli section, although has some good stuff, but I found that area always super crowded because of the low prices I guess - that was the only deli where I got a pound of roast beef for $3.99 and it was good. They carry a lot of variety of fishes, packed or unpacked. It also has a great selection of international items as well - everything from specialty European to Indian. They carry the german "Jacobs Kronung" coffee for at least two bucks less than The Fresh Market. But overall, the fresh produce and the collection of fruits were the items that took me back there week after week during my stay in Rockford. My wife heard a lot about this place from me and when she came to visit me for a week she went there at least three times. This is a great to shop and now that I am out of Rockford, I really miss this place. read more
