Right next to the Bay Parkway subway station, this tiny little grocery store sells only fruits and…read morevegetables. Competing with the nearby large Chinese supermarkets, it holds its own pretty well. A lot of it probably has to do with the lazy convenience of the shoppers and the alluring deals on the luscious, ripe fruits and vegetables right outside the store. They offer fantastic deals on fruit that you generally have to eat right away; it's not that the fruit is rotten (after all, you'll see a lot of less perishable fruits when you go inside), but I usually fall prey to the fruit outside right as I'm about to enter into the subway station. I pause, think about it as I continue striding into the station, and return later at night to get some fruit. They've had incredibly sweet, perfectly ripe pineapples and pints of round, indigo blueberries for $1, almost-bursting persimmons and large, fragrant papayas; everything is always seasonal and fantastically-priced. H & T gets a star docked for store appearance; I love hole-in-the-walls for restaurants (since it means that the prices are for food, not ambiance). I think the same goes for H & T, but it's a little more disconcerting when the store has a slightly seedy look. I trust all the fruits and vegetables, and checkout is fast (no lines, ever), but the general feeling is to get your produce and leave, ASAP. I have no desire to linger the way that I do at Whole Food's or Trader Joe's. It's not really a bad thing because I hate the lines there, but ... right, I digress. Overall, H & T is fantastic. Do take advantage of it if you live nearby!

The establishment is clean and there is always staff restocking shelves and making sure the items are neat. The lady at the register could be friendlier; she also charged me extra for some fruit when I clearly told her the price per pound but she keyed in a higher amount. I would have said something but I was in a hurry so I just left. But based on this alone, be sure to check what she is keying in since there is no scanner and all items are keyed in manually. I wouldn't trust a big order being entered in this way. Also, she doesn't print out the receipt with the breakdown of each item; just the receipt from the cc (if you pay by card.) There are many more options that are way better for me.

The store was very clean and I was able to find everything I needed within a few minutes. Would've gave them 5 stars had the checkout attendant at self checkout wasn't on her phone the whole time and giving me and my sister an attitude when we were asking for help. We tried to look past that and still wished her a goodnight. We received a blank stare and no answer. Won't be coming here ever again.

Initially i am going to be contrasting it with the ghost of Angie's Market, the prior business…read more I remember Angie's Market prior to C-Towns arrival. It was a sour hole of a place, run by a man whose soul had been pickled in vinegar and unneeded grudges. You'd walk in for a loaf of bread, and he'd look at you like you were a thief who'd just crawled out of Rikers. He hated the world, and he hated his customers even more, counting out pennies with fingers that wanted to choke you. There was no grace there, just the cold, heavy weight of a man who'd forgotten how to be human. It was a miserable monument to the smallness of the neighborhood. But bad things eventually fade into the ether, and sometimes they leave for something better. The new crowd took over, and they called it the C-Town Farmers Market. I am a multiple time per week visor and walked by the other day with the sun hitting the concrete and the beautiful flags fluttering happily. There was some feeling of pride to be American out there in the lot, and Italian too. This section of Metropolitan Avenue had a pulse again. This week, they are having a "Customer Appreciation Day". Now, usually, the word "appreciation" from a business makes me concerned. It's usually just a fancy word for another way to bring in the masses to spend, spend, spend. But these people actually carecabout their customers and I believe they're going to put out some food, have some giveaways. I can see it now, in my mind and just for a moment. I envision people, getting a little something back for a change, chewing on free bites in the open air, maybe feeling, just for an quarter of an hour, like they weren't entirely forgotten by our local businesses. Inside, the shelves are loaded with .99 cent chicken quarters, meats and some fresh flowers and pumpkins, all in an effort trying to make their section of the world look less like gloomy. It's got a strong working-class hustle to it and a noticeable decency in the air that Angie's never had. These new owners seem to understand that the people who buy their bread and beverages are the ones keeping the roof over their heads, and the lights on. They're willing to say thanks to us. It's just a grocery store, sure, but in a city where everybody's trying to take what's left in your wallet.

Sometimes the prices are quite high and this is difficult to see. For example, pineapples at $8.99 is a lot in comparison to some other grocery stores. With that said, they do have some great sales and promotions. Just wanted to note this here. We do not purchase meat here but the pies and all of the bakery section items are fresh and lovely. We have read some scary reviews about the meat and I am hoping it is not true. We did see proof in the video though. I absolutely recommend going to this supermarket and choosing here instead of Trader Joes or Shop and Stop for dairy and other food. It is nice to support our local businesses.
