Review for Sandburg Middle School Our family has lived in…read moreGlendora since 1996, and we truly love this community. My husband served as a local pastor for many years, and I spent three decades as an educator, including teaching in nearby Azusa. Our five daughters grew up here, so our family has deep roots and friendships throughout Glendora. Today I am a grandmother, and two of my grandchildren attend Sandburg Middle School. We appreciate the many teachers and staff who work hard every day to support students. Our family does face some health challenges. My grandchildren live with autoimmune conditions that sometimes cause physical pain and emotional strain, and their mother -- a dedicated social worker -- manages lupus and fibromyalgia while continuing to work full time and care for her children. Because of this, occasional issues with absences or timing can arise. One small example happened this morning when my daughter arrived just one minute late turning in a required form. The immediate response from the front office was "no exceptions." Several minutes were spent explaining the rule, when perhaps those same few minutes could have been used to help find a solution -- such as assisting with submitting the form to the staff in the gymnasium. Policies are important, but so is the tone in which they are delivered. A moment of empathy and problem-solving can make a tremendous difference for families navigating health challenges or difficult circumstances. As a retired educator who worked closely with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, I have seen how impactful empathy training and family-centered leadership can be. My hope is that Glendora Unified School District continues to strengthen training for staff and administrators in areas such as empathy, cultural awareness, and understanding the mental and physical health realities many families face today. Glendora is a wonderful community, and with continued growth in these areas, our schools can reflect the same care, flexibility, and support that make this city such a special place for families.

During those years I had severe asthma and weighed about 90 pound. another student attacked me and I was compelled to defend myself. Both of use were sent to the vice principal for fighting. The vice principal Gadel hit both of us with a large wooden paddle leaving welts. On another occasion I witnessed a gym coach Moses grab another students penis in the locker room and said " let me help you with that ". These experiences negatively affected me throughout my remaining school years. I did not want to participate in any school activities I just wanted out. A middle school that serves the foothills area in Arcadia. The two elementary schools, Hugo Reid…read moreElementary and Highland Oaks Elementary) feed the school's population. The school colors are green and black; and the mascot is that of a Scottish terrier dog. Foothills Middle School (FMS) is known for its academic excellence and has a very high API score. The teachers here are fantastic at encouraging students to work in a subject, and preparing them for high school. The environment of FMS is somewhat tolerable. The restrooms reek of urine and the lightning is just plain creepy in 'em. However, for a school that has been passed up for renovations because it's located on a fault line, the general cleanliness is good enough. Fun facts: The school newspaper (at the time of this writing) was shut down three to four years ago due to lack of funding. It was a student-run publication and they charged 50 cents for an issue. 7th graders are/were obligated to choose between taking an elective class of Orchestra, Band, or Art/Acting. Consequently, FMS's band is larger than those of the other middle schools due to its conscription-like enrollment of students.

Some of the kids there are really spoiled rich kids who will make fun of you a lot of the people at the school do not talk English there's a lot of academics there and yeah.

We felt like it was a family environment and the teachers really care about the children. One thing we enjoyed is their really great Christmas and spring musical programs. They always have many activities for the children. Though it is a small school, it allows for a lower student to teacher ratio, giving children more confidence when asking questions, engage in group activities, and opportunities for one-on-one time with the teachers.

Often Christians schools get a bad wrap for tuition being too high but at Shield of Faith the…read moreprincipal works with you. It is in fact cheaper than most private schools. It is also gated and well secure for safety. This school is a hidden gem. Debbie Martinez has a heart for the Lord and for helping children know Jesus. She emphasizes love, agape love to be precise. She helped me when I was going through foster care, she helped me when I lost my grandpa to a heart attack, she even helped me in many other aspects of my life as well. It is because of this faculty that I have a even stronger foundation in my faith. It may not look like much but the education there is good, it helped me build study skills that equipped me for high school. but this school offered great financial help for me a child. Danny Knott the sports coach and teacher also build students to be strong believers, together these two helped me want to build a ministry. They don't just make a school educational but they also make this school a family. I recommend going, being deeply involved, and calling to sing your child up. If we're not for Debbie Martinez and Mr. Knott I wouldn't be the person I am today. This school taught me more than I could've learned in any other school and I've attended quite a few. God bless, Ryan C.
