Pearl Prep is a wonderful school! My two sons both had incredible experiences, and grew in all academic areas. My kids were a bit wild and squirrely, not model students at all. They were still valued and encouraged to develop the skills needed to be successful in school. They both ended their time at Pearl reading above grade level and having a wealth of knowledge in Science, technology, and History. I appreciate the patient and loving teachers who took the time to see that my boys had great potential and pushed them both to do their very best. I also really appreciate the exposure my children had to the Arts. Both of my kids were in drama and band, chess club, and regular art classes. I believe my boys came out of pearl prep well-rounded and well-educated. They also had tons of FUN! The field trips and PE program at Pearl Prep far exceeded my expectations . I am a public school teacher, and I know for a fact that my boys would never have had these amazing experiences in a large public school classroom. One of the things that particularly impressed me was how all the Language Arts classes emphasize the development of rich and challenging vocabulary. (Little story: When my son was in second grade we were driving by a farm and he saw a horse eating hay- to which he said, "That horse must be famished." I couldn't believe my second grader was using the word famished all on his own, in regular conversation! I remember at that moment thinking, "Wow, I'm glad my son goes to Pearl Prep!") One of my sons just got accepted to UCLA and we couldn't be prouder, but I know the academic foundation he received at Pearl Prep played a huge part in his acceptance. He left Pearl Prep believing in himself and with strong academic skills. He may have gone into Pearl a wild and squirrely boy, but it he left the school as a solid and seroius student who had a wonderful time and always felt appreciated. Note: Our 4th grade experience with Miss Prest was AWESOME! She always took the time to appreciate my children's special qualities. She challenged them and taught them to be better students, but at the same time accepted and enjoyed the funny and nutty fellows my guys were at heart. She was particularly supportive to me as a parent and always very accommodating! I would go so far as to say that out of all my sons' teachers, K-12, Miss Prest was this mother's particular favorite! read more

To those who are interested in an enriching educational experience for students: I was reading in one of the classes at Pearl Preparatory School last week. (This volunteer task is something that I have done for three years now.) I mentioned to the teacher that I was SO impressed with Pearl Prep and with their approach to education. This educator suggested that I write a Yelp Review. I have been a teacher for over 40 years (primary, intermediate, middle, high, and higher education). I currently am graduate chair in a school that prepares teachers to enter the classroom--both public and private. The teacher candidates are instructed to address the needs of every student and to become aware of the many cultures that are present in California's classrooms. Multiculturalism receives significant emphasis in the university's program. So, of course, I would be sensitive to this issue as an observant in the classrooms that I have entered. Pearl Prep is amazing as it addresses the needs of each and every child. Its student population consists of many ethnicities, cultures, and socioeconomic classes. Each and every staff member on Pearl's campus is invested in providing an enriching education for every child--regardless of their background. Hence, I could not be more impressed! What I appreciate as well are the hands-on opportunities that Pearl's students are provided. As we know, children's attitudes toward school are developed early. With such amazing field trips and other enriching activities, students are bound to look forward to each and every day of their schooling. My two boys attended Pearl - one from K-5th grade, and one from 1st-5th grade. The rigorous academic standards and the caring and incredibly competent staff combined to make both of their experiences outstanding. My sons really enjoyed the frequent field trips, and the immersive learning opportunities for them at Catalina Island and San Diego were second to none. My children, my husband and I were always treated with respect by the teachers and staff, and I never had any occasion to question whether or not the school was acting in the best interests of my children and the student body as a whole. My sons didn't always get A's, but they didn't always deserve A's. All of their teachers graded them on the merits of their work. Whether it was done well or poorly, the grades they received were the grades they had earned. I am a high school English teacher, and I was very impressed with the education my boys received during their time at Pearl. When they graduated from 5th grade, they were well-prepared for the challenging curriculum at the college prep middle/high school they both attended. The Pearl experience is perfect for families that desire a rigorous curriculum where high standards are set by creative teachers in a safe and encouraging environment in which students not only meet projected goals but often exceed them. If I had it to do over again, I would absolutely enroll my sons in Pearl. read more

My three boys attended Pearl Prep. My older boys for 4th and 5th and my younger son from 2nd thru 5th. They transferred from the Temple City School District. They were failing all their classes and afraid to go to school. Everyday was a battle. During their time at Pearl Prep not once did I have to force them to go to school. They asked to go to school. Their grades and behavior improved drastically. They were not always well behaved and at times disruptive but not once did the amazing teachers and staff ever give up on them. I could have sent them to any private school but not every private school is the same. Pearl developed their academic skills as well as their character and helped them see that learning can be fun. My boys are now at Pearl's sister school Rio Hondo Prep and are thriving thanks to the preparation given to them at Pearl. I wish I had found Pearl sooner. read more

My two boys attended Pearl. One K-5th grade, and one 1st-5th grade. They both had terrific experiences. Their teachers were knowledgeable, current in education trends and teaching strategies, but what impressed me the most was the care and concern they demonstrated for my sons. They were always happy to go to school. I always felt good about dropping them off in the morning because I knew they were going to be in a safe and educationally challenging environment. I highly recommend Pearl to any parents who want to invest early in their children's education. The solid academic foundation provided by Pearl prepared my boys well for middle school, and the integrity of the teachers and staff provided great role models for them. I transferred my 3 children to this school when they were in second and fourth grade. We have never looked back! This school is awesome. Small class sizes, well rounded curriculum, great teachers, loads of hands on opportunities and field trips. Very involved parents. I have never worried about my kids while they are at school and that is priceless. There is open communication from the teachers and I feel they truly want the best for their students. Perhaps what I value most is that they put an emphasis on character development and responsibility. Any school can do the academic bit, which they do quite well, but not every school has a group of teachers that cares enough about the students to grow them in character and maturity. My son is currently in the 4th grade and has been here since the 1st. As parents we believe that we should work as a team so that our child has the greatest success as possible. Each teacher brings something different and all have worked side by side with us in our sons education. In his key performance indicators he has met or exceeded his grade level and continues to push himself to improve. Our son brings challenges but the staff has never been anything less the caring, diligent, and exceptional. Pearl Prep has always fostered a culture of inclusion and acceptance and our son has thrived here. I would encourage anyone to take a tour and talk to as many parents as possible so that can get the full picture of what a great school this is. read more

This elementary school is amazing! I can't say enough about it. My oldest daughter attended from 2012-2017 and loved it. I loved it too because of the small class sizes, the energetic and caring teachers, the attentive staff and the sense of community that you build with the other families. They have a strong academic program and when my daughter needed a little support in a subject they quickly reached out and offered a variety of solutions. There is a good balance between academics, athletics, and social activities. I am eager to enroll my youngest daughter in their kindergarten soon. read more

I started Pearl in 2nd grade and graduated. It was so much fun I didn't want to leave. The teachers really care about you and go the extra mile to help you. Not only did they challenge me academically but taught me to be a good person. It's more like a family there, everyone knows who you are. I enjoyed all the field trips, school activities and the chance to play sports. Even though I'm in eighth grade now, I still miss Pearl. read more

Pearl Prep has been an excellent school for my three kids! The teachers and staff really care about the students. I feel safe sending my kids here, knowing that they are learning in a nurturing and positive environment. The curriculum is solid - there are lots of STEM and hands-on learning activities. Myself and two older sisters went to Pearl Prep for 1st-5th. We all have strong memories from our time spent there from going to San Diego as a 3rd graders, to seeing the missions in CA, to camping and snorkeling in Catalina.
