I want to share what my family experienced with my dad's urology followup at Valley Urology with Dr. Greg Rainwater, to raise awareness about how vulnerable patients, especially seniors on Medicare/Medicare Advantage can be treated in the system. My dad (73) recently had a urinary retention emergency. He couldn't pee, ended up in the ER, got a catheter, and went through days of severe pain and fear. His primary doctor submitted a referral marked "urgent" to Valley Urology, and the insurance processed that referral within 24 hours so he could be seen sooner. Even with the urgent referral, Valley Urology scheduled his appointment for February 18, more than a month after his ER visit despite us explaining that he was in what felt like a life‑or‑death situation and in tremendous pain. They refused to offer an earlier date. Because he was still in tremendous pain and could not safely wait that long, we paid out‑of‑pocket to see a Bay Area urologist (El Camino Health Urology) who removed the catheter, started medication, and helped stabilize him (worth every penny and the drive). February 18 was the first followup with his insurance‑assigned urologist, Dr. Greg Rainwater at Valley Urology. -We arrived at 9:00 AM for a 9:30 AM appointment. -We watched other patients who arrived later get called back and seen before my dad. -We were kept waiting about an hour in the waiting room and then another hour in the exam room before Dr. Rainwater walked in. When he finally came in, his tone was, in our view, cold and condescending from the start. He openly dismissed the previous urologist we had seen (without knowing his background), and when I brought up our long wait and the impact on my dad, his response included statements like: "I don't care. You were lucky to get an appointment." "If I'm running two hours behind, go to the ER." "If you don't like it, find another doctor or get him another insurance." These comments were made in front of my dad, who has already been through a traumatic ER experience, language barriers, and weeks of pain. As a family, we are left feeling disrespected, minimized, and discriminated against because of his insurance, his age, and possibly our race and situation. Are we supposed to just accept any treatment we get and be "grateful"? Absolutely not. Medically, my dad is currently urinating better on his medications, and we're thankful his immediate condition is stable. But how patients and families are treated matters just as much as the clinical plan. Being one of the only urologists accepting certain insurances in the region does not, in our opinion, excuse dismissive communication or a lack of basic empathy or refusal to accommodate an urgent referral for a patient in severe pain. I'm sharing this because: -Yes, there is a shortage of doctors, especially in urology, and yes, wait times can be long. But basic respect and empathy are not optional. -Seniors, and people with limited English are especially vulnerable in these settings. They may not feel safe speaking up when they're rushed, talked down to, or made to feel like a burden. -Patients and families have rights. You can: *Ask questions and expect clear, non‑condescending answers. *Seek second and third opinions when doctors disagree or you don't feel heard. *Request a different doctor within your plan when the relationship and trust are broken. *Document what happens (dates, times, specific quotes) and file complaints with the clinic, the health system, and the insurance plan when treatment feels disrespectful or discriminatory. If you have older parents or loved ones navigating the system, go with them when you can. Take notes. Don't be afraid to advocate. And don't let anyone make you feel that expecting humane, professional care is "too much." Our next steps will be to keep my dad safe medically (staying on his meds, monitoring his symptoms) and to look for a urologist who can offer not just clinical competence, but basic dignity and respect in how they treat him and our family. If sharing this helps even one family feel less alone or more empowered to speak up, it will be worth it. read more

I was recommended to seek the services of Valley Urology by my father-in-law who was a patient in the past and had received excellent treatment. I needed to find a new urologist after problems with my treatment by another urologist. I waited a week after sending my treatment history before calling to schedule an appointment. I finally received a voice mail asking me to return their call several days later. I tried calling again and leaving messages at least a dozen times but was never able to speak to the person in charge of scheduling nor were my many calls returned. I was warned by my primary care physician that other patients he had referred had difficulty securing appointments as well. I finally received a call today only to be treated very rudely by the receptionist. The soonest appointment available turns out to be at the end of March. Totally unacceptable service! read more

I work at a doctors office with 10 providers & we are short staffed, and our phone systems are not as bad as Valley Urology (with only 3 doctors)! Doesn't matter what day or time of day you call, they never pick up their phones! One time, I let it ring for almost 2 hours while I was working, and a voicemail never picked up to leave a message! Disclaimer: I never got to the point of getting care from a doctor. You'll see why. I called the office twice to attempt to schedule an appointment. The customer service is absolutely HORRIBLE. The first time I called, I was transferred from the operator to the "scheduler." I mentioned to the scheduler that I wanted to schedule an appointment, but I wasn't sure which doctor would be best for me. -------------------------------------------- This is how the conversation went. "Hi," I said. "I would like to schedule an appointment, but I'm unsure which doctor to schedule with." She replied, "I'm sorry," followed by silence. After moments of quiet, I again said, "I would like to schedule an appointment." There was another stretch of silence, so I asked, "Can you hear me?" "Yes," she said immediately. "Are you a new patient?" "Yes, I am," I replied. "Do you take cash patients?" She didn't answer. Instead, she abruptly transferred me to some random voicemail box. I left a message, but I didn't know who I was leaving a message for. I left my name, phone number, and reason for calling. I have not received a return call. ----------------------------------------------- The next time I called, the conversation went as follows. "Hi," I said. "I would like to schedule an appointment with Dr. Rainwater. If not with him, who would be best for me to schedule an appointment with?" The scheduler replied, "Dr. Rainwater no longer works here." And then she hung up on me. ----------------------------------------------- These people need to be fired. Immediately. They're not doing their job. They don't need to be overly kind, but they should at least communicate properly with potential patients. The doctors may be good, but I'll never know. The receptionist in suite 102 is super rude. She talks loudly and I heard her calling either a patient or a coworker a bitch. Then she starts talking about a patient who is having a problem with their prescription refill. This is a medical environment not a highschool classroom. On the other hand, the medical assistants are very nice. The exam room I'm in isn't very clean. The bottom of the exam table is filthy and the room isn't the cleanest. I've been in the exam room for about 45 minutes and still no doctor. I'm about to just walk out. Update: the doctor stood outside the exam room I was in and proceeded to talk to a patient who was to be seen after me for over 15 minutes about Viagra and needing sex. Dr. Rainwater is rude as well. I will not be returning. I'll find another urologist to help me with my kidney stones. read more

Dr. Rainwater and his staff were amazing, super friendly and funny. Felt welcomed as soon as I walked in from the front desk receptionist. My appointment was schedule quick with no issues. Got my vasectomy done yesterday and was in and out in about 25-30 mins. Was really fast and he explained the procedure in a way that I could understand it. I'm a mechanic by trade and he explained it in mechanics terms which was explained very well. I appreciate the hospitality from y'all and I would definitely highly recommend going to Valley Urology. Abysmal treatment and professionalism by staff I dealt with in the extended process of arranging to see my urologist. This is not healthcare. It's obstruction of healthcare. After receiving an appointment confirmation call the day prior and making the appointment over the phone far earlier, I was notified just 56 minutes before on the morning of the appointment that they were lacking a particular order code and were canceling the scheduled visit. They shared this without apology for the major inconvenience. I had changed my work schedule and postponed a flight in order to take the confirmed appointment date, yet they seemed impervious to any any complaint over the matter. read more

Dr Rainwater is such an amazing human being. He is really caring, funny and informative. He explains everything in detail and gives so much information on procedures, expectations etc. No question is too big, too small, or too embarrassing for him. His staff is very friendly and makes you feel super comfortable. They are organized and well managed. Very nice. I had to wait 3 months for an appointment, referred by my doc., But, reading the reviews scared me to deal with long waiting and attitude..I got NEITHER! Receptionist was ver nice, got called promptly, not too many people waiting.. Dr Rain is ver patient and both his assistants and himself were very clear in explaining my diagnosis and resuming to treat my problem. Maybe all workers have a bad day once in a while.. Not sure why there is a lot of bad experience about this place, in particular to customer service, and NO one seems to be doing anything about it. This shows that they need a new management team/staff to remove unproffesionalism. My particular complaint is of the receptionist, people who picks up the phone call and surgery schedular. Such bad service, rude and and slow to work. There is no sense of direction for patient's and their families when it comes to planning for surgeries, appointments or what to do next in the plan of care. I missed my appointment a couple days ago and stopped by to apologize and see if I could have my blood drawn for labs, I was unceremoniously denied any appointment until my next appointment for an injection. I was told I had to wait to get back into some sort of rotation so that my appointment to get my results would coincide with the next injection appointment? Seems a little bizarre to me but what really bothers me is I just felt the woman who was supposed to be helping me was rude and dismissive. Mind you I have seen this same person bend over backwards to accommodate other people (usually non English speaking people) but I was wondering why they make a distinction between Mexican Nationals and legal US born Mexican American patients? I do not really write reviews, but my experience here was so good, I had to share. I recently brought my son here to get him circumcised. This is my second son and so I have done this before, but my experience was drastically different than the first time. First, it can be difficult to find doctors who do newborn circumcisions these days. So I was referred by a friend who also had a good experience. Dr. Rainwater was much more informative and he made things feel comfortable. We had a quick consult first and he answered my questions before even asking. Its not an experience parents are thrilled about but it went much smoother this time around for us. Everything afterward went pretty much exactly as Dr. Rainwater explained. He made us a follow up which was mostly to make sure things went smoothly, which it did. It was as good of an experience as I could imagine, given the circumstances. I highly recommend Dr. Rainwater if you are considering getting your son circumcised. read more

This facility customer service is horrible ! The customer service does not care about there patients . Your doctor gives you a referral and tells you to call and schedule an appt asap because the patient needs to be seen . You call nope no appt because there not going to schedule you an appointment if they don't have the records they need so you need to make sure you have the records . So we wait another month to get in to see his regular doctor I explain everything the doctor is so upset she gives me records and tells me to contact them again . I call again and the same lady won't schedule an appt again because I yelled at her last time . This is the most unprofessional medical establishment I have dealt with . Then the manager Manuel proceeds to tell me all the problems they encounter when scheduling appts for there patients and this is why they don't schedule even at the doctor request ! Because the doctors don't give them what they need ! So no cancer sick patients can be seen because of the issues with other patients and doctors ! So we the family have to make sure we have the correct paperwork . And what exactly do you need ? Maybe you should communicate with there physicians of what is actually needed ! The organization of this place is a disaster. I'm sure it must be a matter of not enough staff. You either need to accept less appointments, or get more staff. Yesterday I had to spam over and over to get passed the busy signal. Once i got past the busy signal, someone picked the phone up, told me to hold, then hung up on me. I then had to call over and over again, I got someone and was asked to hold. I held for 14 minutes before someone helped me. Appointments are backed up. This alone would not have caused a 1 star. Previous experience with the tiny office and WAY UNDERSTAFFED from office. I can't blame the staff, their clearly aren't enough of the,. You guys need a bigger office. read more

I was impressed with Dr. Rahman. The Drs. should read the reviews and realize there is a problem with their office staff. I phoned the other day and the operator said "I will put you on hold for a second." 9 minutes later I was still waiting. She never did get back to me, and then there was a busy signal. The office staff are not friendly and act like they are doing you a big favor by doing their job. I would suggest they go to a medical office (Maguire Physical Therapy comes to mind) and observe how the staff should behave. All of the people at Maguires are cheerful, well mannered and attentive. I repeatedly told her to not touch me which she did not listen. I asked her to call the police she did not. The white male was allowed to stay and be seen and I was asked to leave and never return. I called the police to report the situation and SHERRIE RAINWATER LIED to the police and said I initiated the physical contact and verbal altercation. Im assuming because I told the police she was the one who put her hands on me. A elderly women who didn't know me witnessed the situation and said the man and Sherrie were completely out of line and I did NOT do anything besides stand up for myself against not one but 2 unstable individuals. I was crying non stop the entire time. Not once did anyone working there Sherrie included ask the person who she actually said she felt was going to harm me to leave. She did tell me not to play the race card when I told her I felt I was being treated unfairly. This was hands down one of the most traumatic situations I've ever experienced. I was referred to Dr. Rainwater by my primary care, & I could not be happier. All their staff were so kind & attentive to all my needs. I haven't waited more than 10 minutes for any of my 4 appointments. & honestly, I was a nervous wreck for every appointment & probably a total nightmare patient but they validated my feelings & made multiple painful procedures as comfortable as possible. I have heard some horror stories about other doctors from my fellow eunuchs who regretted not seeing him, and all those who have seen him recommended him highly. I am sure the valium helped a lot, but my procedure was fast, relatively painless, and hopefully effective. (I reserve the right to update this should an unintended pregnancy occur) Only downside is that the office severely overbooks appointments. Went in once and every single chair in the joint was taken. The two stars are only for the 5 star Dr.Minor. He is great. Unfortunately he is so good that his staff can not keep up with the patient load. Calling I. To get an appt has taken me up to 3-4 weeks to just talk to someone there. Then you have a 2-3 weeks wait for the appt.. either the staff is under staffed or just plain unorganized. Dr Rain Water has always been pleasant and a awesome doctor..I'm super perplexed I recently spoke to him on the phone and mentioned to him how his front staff can be borderline rude at times..His response as I quote is ( well I hear the the way individuals treat my staff sometimes I'll monitor phone calls and if I had to deal with the things they have to on a daily basis I wouldn't be to pleasant ether !!. I'm at loss for words wasn't what I expected from DR.Rainwater..I understand people can be rude and everyone deserves to be treated with dignity unfortunately I do understand people probably do often call or come in and are rude and demanding to his staff..But my issue is that we all shouldn't be categorized in to one group of unruly patients..I've always had made a point to be respectful and address individuals with yes ma'am no ma'am etc..and even make a point to ask them about thier day ..But unfortunately that made no difference .. I've still been treat rudely at times. And now makes sense why this offices reviews are the way they are !! People deserve to be treated according to thier individual behavior not as a collective whole!! read more
