I've been banking here for just under two years and, until today, I had been very happy with my experience. That changed when I came in to open a Rocky Raccoon savings account for my son. We arrived with all the required documents and were genuinely excited about what should have been a positive milestone. Unfortunately, we were told that opening the account would take 25 minutes and, since we arrived 15 minutes before closing, we would need to come back another day. This was extremely frustrating, especially because the day before I had been told that all we needed to do was bring the necessary documents and the account could be opened as a walk-in. We left disappointed--especially my six-year-old son, who couldn't understand why we couldn't be helped when the branch was still open and customers were continuing to come and go. That situation irritated me beyond belief as I watched his excitement be replaced with sadness. Because of this, I turned back and approached the same teller to ask whether there was enough time--about 10 minutes at this point--to close both my business and personal accounts. At that point, the branch manager quickly intervened and stated that they "actually" did have time to open my son's account. Unfortunately, by then the damage had already been done. I was left feeling that my business was viewed as a hassle rather than a priority. What's most disappointing is that had there initially been even a good-faith effort to begin the paperwork, I wouldn't have felt so clearly dismissed. It's sad that there wasn't time to open a new account and accept our money, yet in a matter of minutes they lost thousands when I closed both my business and personal accounts. The takeaway is simple: treat your patrons as a priority, or you risk losing them altogether. This is especially unfortunate because I truly believed Valley Strong was better than this and genuinely focused on member satisfaction. read more

This new location is so nice and located in the Walmart parking lot. Always receive excellent customer service. They have an ATM in the front entrance and also one you can drive up too. I am SO frustrated and angry with this business and it's certainly not the first time! There is ONLY ONE PHONE NUMBER to get in touch with a human being, and it's a call center. With 31 branches in Kern County they have ONE CALL CENTER routing all the calls. Right now, the robot voice is telling me there are 35 calls ahead of me, and when I tried the online chat there were 25 people ahead of me!!! This happens anytime I try to get in touch with this credit union, and that is the worst customer service imaginable! I have a chronic pain disability and I often can't drive there myself and must have someone drive me, and that's not always possible, so I have to be able to speak to someone on the phone when I'm having a problem, and I've had nothing but problems with this credit union ever since I moved into Tehachapi seven months ago. Error, upon error, upon error, and one person tells me something and someone else tells me something else. I've left messages for the manager, who I spoke with one time and he was very nice and very helpful, and he even gave me his personal number and told me I could call him any time. Since then, I've called three times and left messages and he's never returned a phone call. When I speak with one person at this branch, I'm told something is going to happen a certain way, but it doesn't happen that way, and then when I ask another person, they tell me they don't even do that type of thing. OMG !! Right now I need to call and talk to someone at the local branch and that is virtually impossible! I am furious, as this has happened to me over and over and over!!!!! This company needs to do something about that phone number problem! At the very least, give us a button to push to be on hold for the branch we're trying to call, instead of for all of the branches. read more

Went down with my daughter to open a bank account. Did not not have any appointments that work when she's not in school for at least two weeks. Looks like a bank that makes it that hard to do business with either is doing so well they don't need new clients or they are poorly run. Good thing there are other options out there for a first time bank customer. read more

I was in need of a walk in "Bank". Mine had closed where I lived and also closed where I just moved to, (Tehachapi). I didn't have a money problem, I had a "Bank" problem. While due to corporate rules it was made more difficult, in one day, one account, one location that I can walk into, I was able to do the banking I needed. One person there listened to my needs, and we made it happen. Now I no longer am without my WFB, closed locations. I think the Valley Strong Credit Union will be my "walk in" choice after being a self employeed businessman for over 45 yrs. Don't get me wrong, when I could walk in to my old bank, it most ofter worked. But, they "threw me under the bus" so to speak and Valley Strong pulled me out. I have used this bank for the past approximately 20 years and been a member for approximately 15 years. Best bank anyone could ever want. They have provided loans even though my credit wasn't the best and have always covered me when my cards were compromised before I even knew anything was wrong and the staff in Tehachapi are the best!
