I had such a good experience there that years later when I was in an accident and I had my front tooth knocked out I returned to Dr. Johnson for my dental implant. I have never had any issues with the implant and it's now been 17 years!! Go see Dr. Carl! I recommend him to everyone :)

still fighting pain and agony after 2 years , from crappy implant job by oral surgeon carl johnson…read more I was 70 when i went in for a couple of teeth problems ( two teeth needed to be implant replaced) I was told by dr carl that it was much worse....said my lower jaw had lost bone density, & could break at any time. as his "proof" i was shown the film he took....(which was a faked up mess , i later found) I am a thyroid cancer survivor, he said the cancer treatments had weaked my jaw bone density, and scared me with horror stories of what could happen if I didnt do something immed. dr carl johnson then told me all my teeth were loose, couldnt be saved, & needed full implants upper & lower, asap. carl j. reccomended another dentist for "independent"second opinion ( who I later found was a shill for him) that dentist verified that ALL my teeth had become loose, needed full implants upper & lower...immed surgery. by then I was really scared. i questioned about allergy testing first, in case of allergic reactions from acrylics & metals they would perm plant into my jaw.... he assured me not necessary . (I later found much of my pain & sick was because i had strong reaction to the substandard acrylics used.) so I decided to go ahead & have the four hour surgery to remove my teeth, & put in full implants. as i was going under anesthesia, he "asked" if i minded observers, i was not able to respond, he allowed 3 others in, to observe, and, i suspect , to "practice " on me. as i faded out i heard them laughing. Surgery lasted 8 hours, not four, i bled huge amounts, thought i was dying when sent home. months & months of very bad pain, unable to eat any but liquids, terrible fitting implants, sick all the time. found that 2nd opinion dentist had mad the denture implants himself. even tho he was not licensed to do so. . so now after multipal surgergical procedures, I have less pain...still cannot eat except liquids. been to several attorneys who said dr johnson was proveably at fault...but was so well insured against lawsuits that case could drag on for years and an average person would be bankrupted before case even went to trial. this guy is a conman , a bully, and dishonest. BEWARE!! my quality of life has been ruined. i can only hope for others to join for class action lawsuit.

My father's case, on the other hand, was a extremely difficult case that he couldn't find any dentist in Tokyo, Japan to take on. So he was traveling here to get his implants done and the rest of the dental work a couple of times a year the last several years. The most difficult case was the implant surgery that uses the zygomatic bones (cheek bones)-- this was a very new technology and technique two years ago and the success has saved my father's life! He has been able to eat! Dr. Allen is not only amazing in his expertise but also as a man. He has high moral and ethics, very caring and respectful to his patients yet humble -- he is definitely a man of character. Oh and he's so fun to be around! (One time he came to our house to pick my father up since I couldn't take him to the clinic myself and Dr. Allen needed him there on that day. What doctor would do that even in a very special case?!) I have to also mention his wonderful wife Dr. Alice Chen. With the teamwork of this couple, fear not! There's a way for you too! (How do I attach a picture here? Last winter, I took a picture when both Dr. Chens stayed till really late after work to take care on my father's emergency. They assisted each other since everyone else was already gone.) There's no enough words to express our gratitude toward Dr. Allen Chen. We're forever grateful for you!! PS: Each of the staff at VIP is amazing as well. I love going to the appointments!

He is a funny quirky guy but he is efficient, friendly, knowledgeable, and always on time. I have never had to wait for him. The office is clean, organized, and covid friendly. It is small and feels a bit cluttered but I think his practice has out grown his space and he is using every square foot of that office that he can. Which from a business perspective is smart. He offers preventive, cosmetic, implants, and Invisalign's. I'm sure he offers much more that I don't even know about. His front end staff is so sweet and kind. I am from the south and she (Carmen) reminds me of my auntie or sister. I have lots of dental fears and they work with me to ensure I am comfortable and ready to move forward before we do anything. All financials are easily explained and discreetly taken care of. The hygienists tend to turn over quickly but I think that is the nature of the dental field. I've only ever had one I didn't like there and I quickly fixed that. My only recommendation is to open maybe one evening a month or one Friday a month. A Monday to Thursday 7/8-4pm schedule is hard for those parents who are home with virtual schooling and you cannot bring them along to these appointments. :-( Keep up the good work Dr. Whitfield!

I went to seek care at a highly regarded practice and basically announced I would need fillings to them and was seeking a new place to have these done. This new doctor noted there was a tooth to keep an eye on but no filling needed. Here in this review to say 5+ years later the teeth I had on Whitfield's calendar to get fillings, new doctor has still not needed to work on. My family saw the previous owner of this practice Dr Wylie for decades until he retired and this doctor took over. I decided to try. Immediately noticed in the small space they doubled the amount of patients they can see, very squished. Other patients are far too close and no confidentiality in appointments. Even when you're on time you need to wait a lot longer as they appeared to squeeze as many patients in as they could, in close time frames, so a lot of wait time between assistants and doctor. Whitfield did not meet my communication style. Tries to be "smooth", comes across arrogant and out of touch. Hard not to compare to the humble, compassionate demeanor of prior owner/doctor. Stark contrast. Its clearly all about money. Furthermore on my first visit with Whitfield he made reference to Dr Wylie's (old owners) work being less than. Even hypothetically if this was the case how unprofessional. It wasn't necessary communication.

They're always selling something.. such as laser treatments which I paid $1K out of pocket for.. and it made zero difference. They also just assume you want to keep working on your teeth without considering costs. While I was getting a filling or crown done, the dr. says, "we can fix the one next to it too while we're here." As if everyone has the money to say "oh sure" and then proceed to charge you crazy dentistry prices. God forbid that a bill is overdue at this place, they won't leave you alone. Save yourself the hassle and skip this dentistry.
