I have bought three rats from this establishment to feed my snake and each time I have the snake wouldn't eat it and died within the following two days even tho we have a separate tank with water and food in it but if I drive 30+ minutes up north and get a rat the snake eats it fine right away or doesn't die so fast as if the rats are sick and the snake doesn't want to it but when I approach this store and told them they just brushed it off as if it's nothing. read more

after getting multiple rats from this establishment, I have found they are all riddled with mites and they are all sick. two of them that I got passed away from severe iron deficiency from mites. called them and asked but they all said that the rats they have, do not have mites but they all do. they all have severe respiratory infections! They have really good options for freshwater fish however we've bought fish from them before and it's killed all the fish that we had... I mean probably $700 worth of fish if not more. We have only ever gotten fish from this place, but I'm not sure if it's worth it because they seem to be sick all the time. Also, we still have fish from them and they continue to get fin rot over and over and over again so we keep having to medicate. We've also returned to fish before because it died within a day of getting it and they said that they would get back to us on when they had a replacement fish and they never did. Then when we got the replacement fish for the one that did die after calling and calling and calling over several weeks to see if they had gotten the shipment in after they said they would call US , but never did- that fish was so beaten up that it died within a few days and it wasn't worth our time to go through the same process to get a replacement fish. read more

I shop here and it's FINE. The bad things are the puppy's are underfed. Solitary animals are held together, and Almost every animal is in an extremely small enclosure. We honestly had no idea how big this place is. It does smell like a pet store that is active. Huge area of fish etc. We walked by the cute puppies and their cages were clean and the lady got some out to play. We actually ended up getting a Goldie. They were very helpful and informative. Answered all our questions and love it's family owned. We even noticed how much they all loved the puppies and had little nicknames for each and actively taking care of accidents. If you're looking for a cheap place to buy a dog got to a rescue. This is a business and the fact they care and are informative made a huge difference than some name brand store. The store has a really large selection of fish, reptile and small animal stuff. However, some of the reptile care was a little sad. Specifically the leopard geckos. Many of them were covered in bad stuck sheds and bleeding. They also had bowls of mealworms that were full of molts from the worms, meaning that they hadnt been cleaned or changed in a while. It also seemed like they had their baby bearded dragons on a staple of mealworms. There was definitely unhealthy poop in the tanks most likely from the hard to digest diet they have them on. Employees were not very professional either. Swearing and cursing at each other loudly. On a lighter note, the fish tanks were well kept and the employees near them were friendly and seemed somewhat knowledgeable. read more

This store is awful! They mistreat their animals. When called out on their horrid treatment of animals, they call people "bitches". When I went in there, there were two boxer pups COVERED in poop. When I notified staff, some older guy with a ponytail yanked the puppy out by its hind legs and put it in a pen. When he was done cleaning the crate the puppy kept running from him with her tail between her legs, clearly scared of the man. These people have NO business owning a pet store. They're disgusting, and whoever runs their Facebook page seems like it's run by a hormonal teenager. read more

They are very nice workers, they show they have time for us, and I come here a lot, normally just to look, but the last time I came here I bought a pretty little fish, I went on vacation and had my friend watch him and all the other fish. We got back a day or two ago, and now there is a worm looking parasite on my glass. I looked them up and they are "hitchikers", they get rides on fish and stick to them until the get to a fish tank or something. I'm not saying it is 100% from valley pets, but I didn't see it until I got this new fish. Soooo yea. read more

The very first animal I got from this place was a hamster. She had a small tumor on her face and the workers convinced me it gave her no problems and she was healthy. A few days after I adopted her I went to check on her and her face had literally exploded. A day prior to that she was bleeding all from her privates and when I called to ask what was wrong they said she might have been pregnant. I was horrified. I was gifted turtles from here about a year later, one of which I also discovered had a tumor. I was so scared I just returned it and they offered to let me pick another but I didn't want to. My friend and I went for her to get a hamster and upon the worker letting us pick them up for her to pick, we discovered babies. Some dead some alive. She didn't pick a hamster because they all appeared to be either pregnant or nursing. She was scared to take the mom, one worker was nice and said if she figured out which one was the mom she could a absolutely take the babies. Another guy promptly interrupted and said she would have to pay full price for each one. It is obvious they just don't care about the animals here. The puppies were hot, dripping drool. The store itself was awesom. An amazing selection of all types of animals. However I wasn't impressed with the service I received. I intended to purchase a Sheba puppy and was applying for the credit in store. While in the process of filling out the application another patron began inquiring about the dog I had every intention on buying. When I went to let the employee know that I had finished and was ready to purchase the puppy I was informed that the other interested party; who laid claims second, would actually be purchasing the puppy with cash. The owners should be ashamed of themselves to have puppies in tiny glass cages, lying in their pee and poop!!! Their answers were 1. They get their puppies from a "broker in NY" who buys the puppies from breeders. WRONG. ANY breeder would not let their puppy go to this place! 2. "I don't make their prices." When the puppies don't sell for the astronomical price they're listed at, they lower the prices; but NEVER even close to what they paid for them. 4. He didn't have an answer for this one; he just shrugged his shoulders- go figure. *ALSO, the store associate told me that I should just go buy from a breeder, since i was complaining about the costs and inhumane treatment of the puppies. This is such a sweet place to visit my kids love coming here every week to see what is new. Valley pets reminds me of when I was a kid and pet stores would have a variety of reptiles, fish, birds and other animals. ABSOLUTELY heart broken the poor puppies are left in those 4 square area rooms one was LITERALLY TRYING SCRATCH THOUGH THE GLASS to get out these two where fighting AND ALMOST BIT the other's EAR OFF. I want to say good things about this place BUT THERE ARE MANY RED FLAGS the birds where obviously STRESSED they WHERE CHIRPING CRAZY The Rabbits seemed chill but they where not moving but for quite a while they didn't even bother to hop I assume there seniors but a lot of them where kept in the same habitat. I left a couple minutes after they left IT DID not seem there where gonna be there for the rest of the night and the next day WILL be closed ALL day i hope the comeback the next day. The owners seem to take really good care of the animals as they had a couple puppies out playing with them as we walked in and looked around. As the puppies went potty they were pretty quick to clean them up. After we bought the dog they were kind enough to give us discounts on the essentials needed to provide for the puppy. Valley pets has never disappointed me. Every time I go there I am always greeted and helped from supplies to helpful advice on pet care. And especially if you have a snake I would recommend Valley Pets. They also give great deals on their animals and set-ups for them. I also want to mention that when you step inside this store, it's like stepping into a small zoo. Their animals range from 20+ kinds of snakes to birds to giant turtles to tiny porcupines to fish. It's quite a spectacle. Now for all the concerns that many people have about this place: The smell - Well of course it's going to smell! Its a pet store where a whole lot of animals live. The employees are always cleaning up after them anyways. The employees - The employees look like really tough guys, but actually are really nice and care a lot about the animals and know a lot about them too. How they care for their animals - I've been there multiple times and can say for a fact that all the cages are clean, and I know that they also make sure to take special care of their reptiles during the shedding cycle. Sure the store is a bit messy, but if you want someone who knows the animals and the products this is the place. I keep koi, and a fish tank and buy all my fish here because they know what they are doing. Little Dave is extremely knowledgable about fish, and will honor any gurantee he gives you. Prices are fair, and I've never been disappointed with the products I've bought here, and I've bought a lot. I don't know the other staff members names but they have a spider guy, and a reptile guy who are equal to Dave in his ability. The other animals here are overpriced in my opinion, and I'd not considure buying a dog here. I just prefer going directly to the breeder or adopting a pet from the pound. THEY KILLED OUR SNAKE. We had a beautiful baby ball python and they sold us a rat that was too big for her to eat. They sold it to us confidently, telling us she would have no problem eating it. It wasn't until MONTHS later we noticed her acting different, we took her to a vet and she was dying from having the SKULL of this rat lodged in her abdomen because it was too big. They murdered her, we are devastated and heartbroken that she had to go in such a terrible and agonizing way. The vet told us she is in a lot of pain. As someone who has worked for animal control and rescued reptile for over 20 years it horrifies me to find out they feed their snakes live rodents. This is completely unnecessary and cruel. I'm also willing to bet they don't spend the hundreds of dollars it cost to treat a snake after being bit. Not to mention I would never support a store that sells puppies , rescue one. What a horrible experience I just had going to this nasty place. Almost all animals just sitting in their own feces and urine while workers chat in the front. Horrible un knowledgeable staff and very shockingly rude.Honestly I would never want to support a place that doesn't even know how to take care of their own animals. Anyone would have a better experience over all going to Petco or Petsmart then this store. Just very sad and disappointing to see a business like this still open. I have been coming here since i was little, if you are looking for a pet i for sure recommend. I have bought 2 birds, 4 leopard geckos, a few fish, 2 bearded dragons that all live/lived a long and healthy life and many things for my pets. The worker are very nice and are always willing to help you find the proper pet, supplies or to just help you find something. And for all the people saying that the animals are not in proper care, from what seen which by the way i come there at least 2 times a week they care for the animals very well and of course it smells but it is a pet shop so if you cant handle the smell than leave! read more

I have been a customer here since we moved to the area. I will say that the reptiles scare the heck out of me but Dave JR is always kind to me during my semi heart attacks. I have purchased Belle the best doggie in the world. We have upgraded three different fish tanks and continue to buy fish at least twice a month. We have Jinx the wonder Guinea Pig that makes my special needs son smile and laugh as he plays with her. Dave JR even came to my house while my husband was deployed to keep our fish tank cleaned and running. If he did not care or was part of a chain he would not have taken 2 hours out of his day every month to keep my fish tank clean so my husband could come home to live fish. The employees may not look like models but I have seen them take care of the animals, clean up after the animals and feed them. My kids also love "Monster" and the fact that the staff will talk to you and educate you about what your are getting and how to care for it verses just getting a sale. I think it says a lot about what this family run business was built on. I am going to keep going there and I know that they are upgrading and rearranging their business as we speak to better suit the needs of the customers and the animals. read more
