Monty on a walk!

The staff clearly shows that the well being of their animals is their number one priority. We had a great experience adopting. Join their walking volunteer program!

He was put into a…read morekennel if you want to call it that, with not much room to move, no warm spot for him to lie down (kennel was out in the yard). This poor dog screamed all day, every day. After numerous phone calls to SPCA/Visalia Animal Control, nothing was being done. After approx. 6 months of this the entire neighborhood was making calls. The police department, I believe, finally arrived and issued a citation. This dog is now gone. However, he has been replaced by a great dane and a much smaller dog who continuously bark and howl during daylight hours. I don't believe that calling animal control is going to get anywhere with the nuisance barking. You just don't respond to or seem to care about what is happening. The residents of this home do not check on them to see what is causing them to bark constantly. Several of us in our own neighborhood have dogs and all make sure they are not a nuisance. Why isn't it possible to get some action on this problem?

He was considerate and caring and I really appreciate his grace during the tough time. He had information for cremation and other services if need be. I would like to say first of all that I would have given no stars if that was an option. My dogs…read morewere stolen recently and we found them at this local shelter. When we notified staff that our dogs were in fact there they told us we couldn't have them back because the person they were found with had been arrested. Knowing that we had put out a fidoalert for our dogs and that we have several years worth of pictures of our dogs on our phones they still told us we couldn't have them back. They then advised us to wait for 3 more days which would make it a total of 7 days that our dogs would have to be locked in their cages on site. They informed us that after 7 days we could adopt our own pets back I from them at upwards of $300.00. I say upwards of $300.00 because those are just the upfront fees that's not counting spay/neutering and other miscellaneous fees. They also told us they would be terminating our girl dogs pregnancy to boot. When we told them we couldn't afford to adopt our own dogs back from them they told us there was nothing they could do to help us and that if we wanted our dogs back all fees would be due immediately. My family is heartbroken over this as well as confused to no end. Needless to say there was no happy ending for us. Instead we're left trying to figure out how to cope with the fact that even though we know where our dogs are there's nothing we can do to bring them home according to the staff at this shelter. Nova has been with us for over two years now and monster has been with us for over a year. I guess this shelter only believes in adopting out pets to strangers and not reuniting lost/stolen pets with their rightful owners.

This shelter has been the worst I have dealt with. I went in yesterday (after visiting several…read moreshelters in past months) trying to find the perfect dog to fit in with us. I finally find one. Isn't available until today (on stray hold). I get that. I come back right at 10am when they take people walking in for adoptions.. was told that the dog is not available for adoption because it's going to a rescue. I asked can I get the information for the rescue so I can adopt through them? Nope. They can't give out that info. So basically after being told I could adopt the dog today, I was told I couldn't because it's going to be picked up by a rescue who is going to foster it and find a home. Hi. I could have been that home. But your shelter clearly isn't in the business of finding good homes for dogs. And with that, I'll be going to a breeder. Maybe create some policies that make it seem like you're trying to find homes for dogs and not just euthanize them. Pretty sure that rescue will do just fine without the one dog and still bring in good money from all the other dogs that take from the shelter. But like I said. The shelter clearly isn't in the business of finding good homes for their dogs. Wouldn't recommend and I won't be returning. I'd rather pay more for my dog than deal with unprofessional establishments such as this one. Shop. Don't adopt :) that should be their motto.

They informed us that someone was already scheduled to see the dog the next day, then called us after the person no-showed to let us know the dog was still available. The dog we were interested was being treated for a medical condition and they provided detailed information about the treatment provided so far and what would be needed moving forward. The dog was described as shy and a stray but clearly liked the staff at the shelter. The place was really clean with nice kennels. Overall, we were so impressed with this place.
