I stopped by this marketplace when I was in the plaza visiting another store. I was looking to get a quick bite so I thought this grocery store would have something. I found parking easily since I came in the morning and the place wasn't busy. When I walked inside, they have the liqor on the left side of the store. The produce area is right at the entrance. I walked to the deli area on the right side of the market but I didn't see any pre packaged food. So I walked toward the back where the meat was and I didn't find anything there either. They have some fish out on the floor for customers to get themselves. I didn't find any quick bite in the store to get so I didn't purchase anything here. read more

My mom and I have been loyal customers of this market for many years, which makes our recent experience with customer service especially disappointing. My mom purchased a cabbage and, after bringing it home, discovered that it was rotten all the way to the core. Only a day had passed since the purchase, so she returned to the market with both the spoiled cabbage and her receipt, expecting to receive a refund and purchase a replacement. Instead, she was asked to wait for nearly 30 minutes while an employee reviewed CCTV footage to verify that she had purchased the cabbage.. even though she had already provided her receipt. After reviewing the footage, the employee accused her of using part of the cabbage because it appeared smaller than the one shown on camera. My mom explained that she had removed the outer layers to determine whether the rot extended to the center, which it did. Logically.. why would she use a spoiled cabbage?! Despite this explanation, the employee refused to believe her and denied the refund. What should have been a simple and straightforward customer service issue became an unnecessarily rude and humiliating experience. After years of shopping here, we are extremely disappointed by how she was treated. Because of this experience, we will no longer be returning as customers. read more

What has happened to Valley Marketplace meat? Have they switched suppliers or downgraded the quality? I regularly buy meat there when there's a sale, because it's not close to my home. I have always been pleased with the quality. 2 weeks ago, I bought sirloin steak there, and it was so tough, I barely got through it. This week I bought Tri-Tip steak. I've bought Tri-Tip from them many times before, and it has always been excellent. This time is was really tough, like the sirloin 2 weeks ago. Has anybody else experienced this change? read more

My go to place for great deals on fruits and vegetables. I always walk out amazed at how affordable my bill was. Especially as food prices have gone up dramatically! Plus you can find some fruits and vegetables that are not found at other stores. As most items are not organic and from other countries, make sure you wash everything well. Best to come right after produced is restocked. On Saturday morning at opening they were just cleaning out produce and beginning to restock so perhaps come after 8am. With that said, there was a lot of customers waiting to get in. The best part of this grocery store is the employees: the employees are very hard workers. Not all staff, but some of the Deli staff need to be re-trained. I had a ticket to be assisted, but the female who happened to be hispanic helped another customer ahead of me who was speaking in Spanish, and when I asked proof of her ticket. Employee replied she doesn't have it, but supposedly was there first. Clearly not, because I was there waiting. Not acceptable and very unprofessional. This place is beyond unique and when I tell you how I randomly walked into this store on a Sunday evening for the first time, and how walking into this place completely restored my faith in humanity. I'm still in shock and I'll never ever recover!! I had accidentally left my Loiue Vitton pocket purse in the cart outside in the parking lot and drove off. By the time I realized it, my whole life flashed before me, everything was in there including my phone. I thought there is no way, only a miracle would have to happen to make getting my purse back, happen, and that 1st miracle was David the man who works tirelessly in the searing heat to bring the carts in, he brought the purse in and handed it over to the 2nd miracle, Marcella the Manager who held it for me safely and returned it intact. The weight of dealing with all kinds of people for her to, I can't, and she does this everyday, dealing with people. This kept me up all night in disbelief and crying tears of amazement, I mean the integrity, the wholeness you have to have to be this kind of a human being I will be forever grateful this is not something one can ever forget, and I want everybody to know and feel this. Even if this had never happened, just walking into this place, I felt a warmth about it. It's such a unique place with so much variety, diversity and true ethnicity. I don't even know why I walked in but as I'm walking around I'm finding stuff you don't normally find at a regular grocery store. I wondered if they could possibly have Okras here because nobody does. I asked and the guy stocking the veggies, he stopped what he was doing and walked me right to them. I was amazed at how fresh there produce is here, they have real guavas!! This place is like Lassens and Wholefoods rolled into one on merch. without the high ticket price and some of the most genuine employees that are helpful and happy to be there. I mean here it is the end of the day and the cashier, what a cutie patutie, very kind warm, high energy and enthusiasm. ITZEL effortlessly connects with each and every person. I was telling her what a great place this is and wondering why I've never heard of it. All the way down to the brown paper bag for your groceries, I was already impressed with the produce and other finds in this store and then they pull out a real size, sturdy, quality, paper bag. I really love this place tho But the down part is the people that work in meat department. Was trying to see and pick the kind of meat my mom wants. But the guy that help us was very rude and making unnecessary comments, we thought ok he might having a bad day. But later I saw him speaking to a Spanish speaker lady, and was very nice to her. This market have a large range of fresh vegetables and fruits, a lot of Indian, Persian and Philipine foods, unfortunately Thailand food and spices is small selections. I wished they bring more of Thailand vegetables and spices, that would be so nice. They price is reasonable on Vegetables and fruits. About the service, as my opinion is OK. I hardly get anything from the meat or seafood department. I don't like to walk through this area because of the fishy oder. I hope they can do sometime about this oder. The checkout station is inconvenient when your time is limited, most of the time I stand in line for a long time to pay. My family and I continue to shop here regularly. Expect large crowds and long lines on the weekends. I highly suggest coming either before 10 am or after 5 pm to avoid crowds especially if you come during the weekend. There is always plenty of parking. They offer a nice variety of items. Simi Valley is so lucky to have this place! This store offers many things that you can't find at a typical grocery store. Such as cactus fruit and varieties of plums and figs. A large meat counter that sells whole fish. A large selection of Middle East and Indian foods and seasoning. They also have a smaller but good selection of Asian foods, including Philippine foods such as lumpia. They dont have a large range of Latin American foods, but that's okay because Vallarta is close by and their selection is also amazing. Their frozen foods department is also filled with delicious Indian, Persian, and Asian snacks, great if you're looking for something different to serve at a party. (Try the falafels) They also have a large deli and many baked breads. I really love this place, it's a haul for me as I live way on the east side but worth it to shop here, even if it's to pick up bags of delicious assorted nuts and crackers mix. read more

I bought some chicken breast today as it was a great price. It was cooked perfectly, nice and juicy, same way I always make it. However, it was like rubber when I bit into it. Some parts were tender and juicy like it should be, but most of it was a rubbery, tough texture, like biting on a teething toy. It's kinda weird and puts me off their chicken. Everyone from the store manager's, the Butcher's in the back, the deli people and all the hard workers stocking on the floor as well as the cashiers are all so Wonderful, very kind and very helpful But last night I had the Rudest cashier ever!! The receipt says her name is "Genove" I know we all have bad day's but this girl was just nasty and hateful and I was very kind to her when I walked up to her register. She was having a conversation with another cashier and clearly wasn't happy to have to help me. Shame on her! That's her job. Best market in Ventura County. it's so hard to find ethnic food here but this place has made my shopping life a million times better. I make a lot of Syrian, Greek, curries, and Asian food. They have 90% of what I need. Not bad odds! The produce is terrific. They carry hard to find products like Stella Doro, Farmer's Cheese, Laban, Greek cheeses, a variety of teas, all sorts of pita bread, Armenian treats, spices, frozen food and delicacies from all over the world. This place is a drive for me, but so worth it. Their prices are really really good, especially for someone like me who's always buying produce at Costco and Ralphs and paying much more just because it's more convenient in terms of location. They have another location in the valley that I go to sometimes, it's closer to me than this Simi Valley one, but I don't like going there because it's crowded and not as clean and organized... Well, it's the valley so it's always gonna be crowded LOL... The few extra minutes of driving to Simi is so worth it for me. This supermarket is more organized, cleaner, less crowded, much better in terms of parking, andddddddd the part that really sold me (drum rolllllllllllllll), it is filled with better variety of Asian/Indian products! They literally have an Asian food isle and an Indian food isle. They have a HUGEEEE variety of all sorts of noodles (vermicelli, udon, egg, rice, soba noodles, and many more). They even have rice paper which I don't easily find usually. I LOVE the vast variety of asian sauces as well (oyster, fish, soy, hosin, ponzu, mirin, peanut, black bean, teriyaki, and the list goes on). They also have many types of chili oils and chili sauces, vinegars, and all types of curry pastes (red, yellow, and green). And most importantly, a CRAZY variety of spices and fresh+dried herbs. HUGE PLUS! The produce is extremelyyyyy fresh and clean, and always placed neatly. The cashiers are always nice and efficient/fast) so I never wait too long to check out no matter how many people are ahead of me in line. 5 stars for grocery inventory 1 star for meat counter stinkin attitude 4 stars for checkout Friday, 2 December 2022 2:00 pm visit. I'm just going to be real, here, and state that this establishment's customers are an international melting pot. I'd say about half are Latinx, with the balance Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, and white. I don't recall seeing any African Americans. If you're in a minority group within the microcosm of society contained within this store, you might want to grow a tough skin before entering. Many of the customers are rude, rude, rude. White hate from fellow shoppers in an multinational environment doesn't surprise me. But from store employees, racism is unacceptable. The sale flyer had a good deal on boneless chicken leg meat. There also was supposed to be giant squid meat. I'm a little slow sometimes; it took me a while to catch-on that I need to pull a ticket out of the machine at the meat counter. A youngish lady called, "Number 21?" Happily I called back and put my hand up, "Right here!" She gazed at me, paused, stepped back from where she was standing, then stared down to the left as she just stood there doing nothing. It's as if she counted to 50 before deciding to serve me. After that uncomfortable pause, she walked very slowly to me, and just stared through me. So, I said I'd like a pound of the chicken. She answered, "2 pounds?" I answered, confused but with a smile, was that the minimum? (What did I miss?) Again, an icy stare. So she dangled a small piece and said, that's a pound. I'm old enough to be her grandmother and have been preparing chicken since I was allowed to cook. It was more like half a pound. It was clear who was in charge here, so I said, OK, two pounds. (Whatever, it was only $1.79/lb anyway.) She threw the first piece on the scale, then added another piece. It came to 1.45lb. She didn't bother to go back to the case and add more, to arrive at the suggested 2lb. Then she wrapped it up and tossed it on the counter, turned, and walked away. I didn't dare ask about the giant squid. I couldn't anyway, she was gone. Aside from the beyond-rude meat counter, the stockers need to really watch their mouths. This is SoCal folks. Many of us speak Spanish. That said... Spices, spices everywhere. When you first walk in past the booze department, there's a wall with cellophane bags filled with just about every herb or spice you can think of. Want green peppercorns? Right there next to all the other colors of peppercorns. Want dried whole tiny rose buds? They're there. But wait! The first time you come to this store, you'll do yourself a favor by walking every. Single. Aisle. See, the store is organized by origin. So, if you want a gozillion choices of Masala, head for one of the three Indian aisles, and feast your eyes. Each aisle representing each region has its own additional spice selections. The frozen section is quite a trip. Need phyllo? There are stacks of multiple varieties. Need Aji Amarillo? Yep, some cooked, some whole fresh frozen. How about samosas? Many prepared choices... or stuff your own. How about frozen corn on the cob? Not just any corn on the cob. How about the kind with huge kernels for an amazing Pozole. Or, what could you do with blue or red corn on the cob? Are you a fan of Pastitsio? If you've been laying little ziti pieces in your pan, head for the Greek-Italian section and choose from a few varieties of 10" Zitoni. But for noodles, don't limit yourself to this section. You'll find yam threads in the Korean/Thai/Vietnamese section. Do you need rice? Just remember, there isn't one rice section. Decide what country's rice you want. Sticky rice? Japanese. Risotto? Italian. Basmati? Indian... The produce section was not real special to me. I liked their deli containers of peeled garlic. Very fresh. The aisles are a bit too narrow to navigate around the (rude) shoppers who park their cart to the left and select from the right, effectively blocking the entire aisle. It wasn't worth the aggravation to take a close look. I homed in on the Chinese eggplant for $0.99/lb though. I've been to this store only once, but I can tell you it's nothing like Vallarta Market. Vallarta is more like a city. Valley is like a trip around the world. If you're looking for grape leaves for your Dolmas, or a jar of huitlocoche look no further than Valley. I left the store at about 4pm and can surmise that it was one of their busiest times. The lines extended into the aisles. I lucked out and was plucked out of my line to be the first in a new line. The young male cashier was very courteous. He bagged my items thoughtfully and placed them in my cart. Despite the ugliness at the meat counter shopping here is awesome. I'll increase my rating to 4 or 5 stars if that chick is GONE for good next time I shop there. Enjoy! read more
