It's fine for what it is. You don't have much choice. There's convenience price but other than that it's very clean and well attended.

Last year when I went into the store the mask to person ratio was more than ideal. It was perfect. This store is top tier in every aspect!

No one in the market wearing mask. Not workers, not costumers. Covid doesn't exist here.

I've never been a fan of state owned liquor stores or understood why they exist in a capitalistic…read moresociety, maybe they are a precursor to the next prohibition era, shouldn't there be a constitutional amendment clearly spelling out the separation of alcohol and state? This location in downtown Lake Lure is convenient if of course you only need booze - if you need ice or a mixer you're out of luck pal. If seems it's the belief of the legislators that they definitely don't want you to have the ability to mix your cocktail in their parking lot I'm thinking it must be some insurance restriction or they don't feel we have the ability to be responsible anyhoo you can go to the Ingles down the street I guess if that's your intention - I personally don't condone this practice unless you have a Tevis cup or your ice will melt, beside why would I pre-mix my cocktail when I can't enjoy it until I get to my final destination it seems somewhere along the way our leaders were confused. If you have an urgent alcoholic need and I wittinesses several who apparently had, you can take your life in you're own hands and cross the busy street and get your mixers and ice at a business on the other side and cross back over to this parking lot - it's like playing a real live version of frogger (actually it's quite entertaining). Well the staff here was friendly enough to take my cash for a large bottle of Ketel One Vodka which I immediately stored in the ice chest in the back of my Jeep before driving across the street to get mixers and ice - I had no plans to start consuming any alcohol before getting back to the campground and boarding our rented pontoon boat for a leisurely ride around the lake that was of course piloted by our designated driver to ensure compliance and safety I hope you do the same...

I told them I was looking for some gin and bourbon. The woman came from around the counter and gave me some suggestions, told me all about some of the locally made options and was very knowledgeable about the selections they had. She told me they had a tasting not too long ago and everyone was very happy with and surprised about the Weldon Mills house gin. I ended up going with that and some larceny bourbon. The gin was awesome! And for about $13 for a 750ml, you can't beat it. I normally go with Tanqueray, but to me this stuff was smoother and better tasting. I'll absolutely come back here next time I'm staying in Lake Lure

When traveling on vacation it's always a bonus when you can meet up with friends 513 miles from…read morehome especially when it's in a setting as cool as the Moose & Goose Lounge located inside the Lake Lure 1927 Hotel. Finding seats at the bar for six is no easy task on a Friday night so whether the stars aligned or knowing Margaret the always friendly and sometimes professional bartender was the reason for it, it was the perfect place to enjoy a few amazing cocktails and a snack after driving the better half of the day. The lounge is easily accessible from the porch or the lobby of the hotel, I won't say it's small but it is cozy. There's an oddly shaped bar along the back wall and a few tables window side otherwise it's standing room only. Margaret runs the show and if you're looking for a little harmless bantering then she'll give you all you want, she'll also pour you legendary cocktails that will have you wanting just one more no matter how long you stay. After finishing my go to summertime drink Redbull & Tito's while the sun set behind the mountains it was time to test the bartender's skill set - nothing's better than a barely dirty Ketel One martini shaken cold, up with a few cheese stuffed olives, well she quickly corrected my description of a cocktail that I've been consuming for decades - I guess the correct term is a slutty martini verses the barely dirty terminology. I may have deserved that since I did ask her if she knew how to make a great martini (see attached photo) I think the photo proved she's made a few and the taste validated any doubt I may have had - it was delicious. There's lots to do in Lake Lure although it may appear otherwise, but one should experience this place if possible...

Pricey, but a very interesting store for such a small town…read more But Hot Springs is a stop-over for both the Appalachian Trail hiker types AND folks treating themselves at the resort and spa and getting IN to some hot springs. So a spot to get geoduck in a time...or a $10 thing of hummus...or fancy frozen pizza....or a single $12 crab cake....is actually pretty on brand! I actually stopped in here several times during my week-long stay in town. Primarily because Vaste Riviere is one of two food spots open every day of the week, and the only one of those two with available outdoor seating. My first visit resulted in the purchase of some dip-type thing to bring back to my Airbnb, a six-pack of beer, and a crab cake. The crab cake was good but I forgot to get any utensils, and whoops....the cleaning crew for my Airbnb arrived AFTER I did, where I intended to eat my meal. So I sat in my car and ate my food with what I could find to use as a sort of spoon... I returned on another day because I wanted a cold beverage after an unexpectedly long hike, and I wanted to drink it outside...so this place was my only option. I also got some pimento cheese dip to bring back to the house with me. Which was...ok. Not the greatest, but y'all...the closest true grocery store appears to be, like, a half hour away. The staff was always lovely and friendly. I would have come back here even more times, if their goods were a little more in my price range or...you know, sometimes after a hike all you want is a burger, not a crab cake. But I like this place, was surprised at its existence, and would certainly recommend it to other folks.

Not only do that have interesting options, all of the prepared items were VERY good too. I felt that the quality was excellent and better than the restaurants in town. The entire concept of this store is pretty interesting. I'd imagine Vaste Riviere has low and high days like most businesses. So, by offering these pre-made items, it allows them to have a broader menu (and probably avoid wasting food). Most of the items are available in the deli case for takeaway. You can heat it up easily or have them do it. Also, in their freezer cases, they have an assortment of local food items. For instance, we got a NC-made Kimchi and it was great. They also have items (i.e. gluten free) that you probably couldn't find nearby. Overall, I'd highly recommend Vaste Riviere if you are spending some time in the area. Great option for a takeaway meal in your cabin or room. Also, with the COVID-19 situation right now, they seem to have it under control and are taking protective measures. Support them!!
