Firstly - I am an addict in recovery. I, myself, never got the pleasure of being a patient at Valley Hope, but after my experience there - I would send my loved one's there 100 times over. My father was a patient there a handful of times over the last few years. I spent much time in the facility with other patient's and staff members including nursing, counseling, and business office. He was on a very intense downhill slide in his life and we were helpless. The moment I walked through the doors I felt a sense of relief wash over me. They were kind to him, though he was suffering from severe DT's and had not bathed in days - they hugged him, soothed him, and quickly got him medication to help provide him relief of his withdrawal symptoms. I went home that day somehow feeling lighter from the immensely crushing weight caused by the anxiety I had felt every minute of every day for years, being lifted off of my shoulders. Like many alcoholics, he needed more than one treatment stint to find his footing. His counselor worked very closely with my family in devising a plan for my dad over these different treatment episodes, and he finally surrendered to his disease, putting sober days together one-by-one. I am so grateful for Valley Hope of Atchison - they have given my father back to my siblings and I, my kids their a grandfather, and I do not lose sleep at night, anymore. I am very surprised to see the rating that Valley Hope has here on Yelp, because I've spent much time in this facility over the last few years. The staff there love and care for the patients, and many are in recovery themselves. If you are looking for a facility that does not conform to the norm of rehabilitation facilities, and will feel more like a home than a hospital - give Valley Hope a chance. read more

I spent 45 days here, and it truly changed my life. The staff is incredible--knowledgeable, compassionate, and always willing to tailor care to each person's needs the best they can. You can genuinely feel how much they care about every patient who walks through the doors. From the nurses, kitchen staff, and cleaning staff to the counselors, directors, and everyone in between, every single person was supportive and treated me with kindness and respect. The environment they create makes it easier to focus on healing and recovery. I'm beyond thankful that I took the step to come here and get sober. Without the support of both the staff and the other patients, I honestly don't know where I'd be today. This place gave me hope, support, and a foundation for a new life. I highly recommend this facility to anyone struggling and looking for help. It's by far the best rehab I've ever been to. read more

I just spent 21 days at this facility. It was not a pleasant experience. I have several issues with the clinical director. They are understaffed and overpopulated with patients. That unfortunately makes them terribly unorganized. Poor communication between staff members. So many of the residents have mental health conditions along with substance abuse problems that this center doesn't seem qualified to treat. I went there desperately seeking help with alcohol abuse. I was shuffled between a few different "councilors" but most of my treatment was nothing more than AA meetings lead by former patients. However if you have good insurance or the ability to pay you are assured admittance. read more

I'm familiar with Valley Hope since 1975! I've not had any issues with staff, always treated fairly. It's EXTREMELY hard working with constant issues of manipulation, withdrawals, and all the other issues that come with addiction. I'd recommend for anyone truly wanting sobriety! read more

If it was possible to get a lower score I would the doctor is great understanding and treat you like a human being but there's several old nurses that scream at you and treat you like your dirt. The worst one of all is Linda is probably in her 70s and literally screamed at me because of a simple miscommunication it could have been handled professionally and with respect after all I am a client gets paying money to be here. There's been several instances but after this one where she told me she can think of a lot of things that I am I'm going to be reporting her she refused to give me her last name I don't know whether that is or is not illegal but she does not need to be working in an industry to help people recover from mental illness and drug abuse because she does not have the tolerance patience kindness or soft-spoken way of speaking with clients to make them feel safe heard and comfortable. read more
