After many calls today close to nothing got resolved other than 2 of the dozen $30 courtesy fees being reversed. What happened is I put my monthly paycheck in the bank ATM on Sunday it is the exact same amount every single time and has always cleared fine. I began paying bills getting a coffee etc not realizing that I only got $275.00 of my check the rest was being held. I woke up on Tuesday and to my horror I had tons of $30.00 curtesy fees because evidently I went over the 275.00 and my check was being held till 12am Wednesday! That 5.45 cent coffee was now 35.45 the 7.99 Netflix was now 37.99 etc etc etc. There are so many fees I am Negative $149.00 it's taken my entire check down to $32.00 when the money does deposit at midnight! I have been with this bank $28 years and this is how I'm treated. It's my money it was there and you could have fixed the issue but refused to. I will be taking my important banking elsewhere. *Unless you go into the bank and talk to a teller your check will be held 3 days if it's a bank atm and 5 if it's a kiosk ATM! read more

Went into the branch on J st on December 14 around 10:50am and representative named Bailey - thin frizzy hair and thin brows - was rude and unprofessional. She rolled her eyes multiple times and kept repeating "do you not understand me?" In a condescending tone and was not helpful. The "manager" on site was just as rude and useless. Valley First CU used to be a good bank. My wife has used the bank since she was a teenager, and we joined our accounts when we got together over 13 years ago. However, in the last few years they have been moving away from good customer service and have become more difficult to work with. The branch we used for years was closed, and the replacement branch only houses ATM's that double as a video communication screen, making everything slower, and much less secure as you are standing right next to someone else on their screen discussing your personal finances. The last straw for us however was how I was treated when I had an issue my account. The branch manager I requested to speak to cut me off repeatedly, and got upset when I asked her, politely, to stop. She made it clear that my concern was not worth her time. No customer deserves to be treated as if they are not important to your business. My wife and I are now looking for a new bank, and will be strongly recommending to anyone we know that they do the same. read more

They are quick to approve car loans and the rates are competitive. Banks around town are cramped and inefficient. Credit cards and debit have some average rewards but nothing to write home about. They will charge you a maintenance fee even with direct deposit. They do report positively to the credit bureaus on overdraft which is nice. Very conservative on their credit cards. Wanted current proof which took another 20 days. Went with Chase Instantly and received their flagship reward card in 3 days with instant approval and 100,000 transferable bonus points. Hi .. I bought a car and valley first credit union was the lien holder.. it's been nothing but a head ache with thus company.. no one knows what they are doing here.. I received a letter saying I need to provide insurance on the car or they will put it on there / add to my loan.. it's been full covered since I bought it , but anyway I sent the insurance declaration liked they asked .. I emailed it to them a bunch of times plus insurance lady faxed and got a confirmation on it and also sent me an email saying no futher action needed.. 15 days later received another letter saying g they are gonna put cpi on it at 130 a month.. wtf!! Idiots , scammers.. and still can't get no one to take care of it?? About ready to let the loan default!!! You can clearly see in my email from imcovered on the 29th everything is taken care of but still sent another letter and started adding money to my loan!!! read more

I have been with this bank since it bought out Tracy credit union. A very long time. I do like the new way there doing bank by video. Seems to be faster. My only problem is. I live off oakdale rd and Sylvan rd. To any office. I have to drive a ways. Can I make a suggestion? Can you please put a ATM or kiosk at the new Savemart or the Savemart shopping center. The modesto branch is the worst run bank you can go to. I waited in line for 40 plus minutes because there was only one teller and 26 people in line. Valley First used to be my fave credit union, but now they are one of the worst! First of all, avoid going to the Dale Road location. They usually have a long line and only have one or two tellers available during the week. Although the Manager is nice and always apologizes for the long wait times, they don't do anything about it. I have yet to see more than 2 tellers working. Their wait time to get someone on the phone is also long. I have recently applied for credit card increases and loans through them and I always get denied. Either their "specialists" have set strict guidelines or they are super picky. My Credit score isn't my issue, I recently opened an account with Navy federal CU and no problem. Loans and credit cards approved for requested amounts. I tried calling the loan specialist and never got a call back. When you apply for credit, they don't always use staff from the local branches so good luck getting one of them to return your call to find out why you were denied. read more

Yeah they SUCK! I have an autoloan through Valley First. Didn't bother to mention that you have an active account in order to pay off your loan w/ out any fees added on each time..... They also require you to constantly send your insurance policy documents to them which I get but their website that they advertise that you can use to do this is always NOT working! That I am covered website... NEVER WORKS. So you have to always email ALL of the documents to them. If you dont they are more then happy to send you letters in the mail saying they are going to add hundreds of dollars in fees to your loan.... You will also still get them even after you have emailed the documents as requested. They just cant wait to up charge you. I have been doing this for OVER a YEAR now w/ no complaints from them and they NOW decided to inform me that there is a discrepancy in my insurance and that its not up to their standards so I have to change it...... They now decide to tell me this almost 2 years later?!?? And Surprise surprise the easy website you can use to "fix it" does not work when you try. So, what do you do? SEND ANOTHER god damn email. You can only hope that its been fixed if you don't receive fees in the mail from them. They also give you shit if you make your payment a day late despite having a 10 day grace period! If it was possible, I would have probably given this branch negative stars. Now, that is a pretty serious rating and here is why: the branch is condescending, flippant and rude. I am 17 and no longer have the same sort of contact with my parents that my fellow teens have. I needed to find a bank that didn't require a co-signer, and they promise just that! I am copying and pasting this from their website as of March 13, 2018: "To establish a Frequency Savings Account, you must be between the ages of 13 - 17, complete a membership application, provide a valid form of ID and make a minimum opening deposit of $10. If you do not have a valid ID, then a parent or legal guardian must be a joint owner on the account." I have a state issued California ID, and it looks like I can use that instead of a co-signer, right? I need to provide a valid form of ID, if I don't have one, I need a parent co-signer. That is what their website says, anyways. I was rudely dismissed when I presented my valid form of ID and showed the manager the bank's website. I am highly disappointed to see that now, 2 weeks after pointing this out to staff, their website has not been changed. read more

Very poor security. No communication. My bank card, they claim, was compromised 4 times in the last 6 months. But those "fraudulent" charges were MY purchases on iTunes and my weekly Starbucks refill. They would know that if when they saw these charges they called and asked me. But they did not call, nothing. So randomly I'm trying to make a purchase or use my atm and suddenly it doesn't work. Being a local small credit union there are no afterhours numbers or help lines to call, so if this happened to you on Saturday afternoon you are SCREWED until Monday morning. You can't even find out what's going on until then. Avoid this bank at all costs. I had my account for the last 11 years and have been victim to their shenanigans many times, but today that account is officially closed and with another bank. read more

I have been been the victim of identity theft twice due to Valley First Credit Union. I received a new debit card in the mail and the number they had on the card to call in and activate directed me to a 3rd party. It was there that they stole my card number and used it to charge over $500 to AWS (Amazon Web Services) not Amazon but their cloud storage product. When I called to report it they acted like they had no idea how this could happen. They credited me back and sent me a new card in the mail. I just activated it on 1/30/23 and guess what on 2/2/23 another $500+ was taken out of my account from AWS. The only thing I did was activate the card. I even called Valley First and advised them that I had a bad feeling when I activated the card. The company that they are using is stealing peoples information and they don't seem to care. read more

I've gone in and called them over and over for months and they have neglected to do anything. My credit score is going down every month, it says I haven't paid and my accounts closed or sometimes it's open but not paid, the account was closed in JULY. Over 6 months and no change! Valley First Crefit Union call center has the worst customer service. Was on the phone almost 30 minutes being transferred between 2 call center representatives. After neither of the representatives could not help me, I ask to speak with supervisor/ manager. Representatives Johnathan told me he was transferring me to supervisor Ashley who never got on phone just transferred me to her voice mail. I then called back and got Joonathan again who I told supervisor Ashley didn't answer phone. Oh know it didn't ring. I Said it did but was transferred to voice mail. I said you can get me to supervisor or I will be contacting your Ceo Kathryn Davis. Jonathan said oh no I will get you to supervisor but then came on phone to say something was wrong with headset or phone which was a lie because you would of said that from start. There system had cost me money and it took me 2 hours of me trying to get the to understand what happened. they gave me back some of the money. But today make me want to change banks. I found my card at the store and i went to have it turned back on they said no. I understand so i asked to have a card printed she told me NO. i asked why not they have always done before. She told me that only if it is stolen can i have it printed. I asked if i could this time no. I have shopping and going out of town. but all i get is sorry i can order you one and you can get cash. i dont like to carry cash out of town. What if i get robbed. Wow based on their yelp scores and comments I am glad I walked out today. They kept sending me information on the mail regarding refinancing my car loan based on my credit score. I just purchased a car through car max but the flyer I received in the mail twice is lower. Today, I went in to possibly get some information to see about it. The lobby appeared nice and clean and the girl who took my name seemed nice enough and told me there was only one person before me. I waited and waited but no help. You can see into the cubicles and two of the workers shut down and left. I was eventually told that one had to leave by 4 pm and it's a time consuming task to refinance.
