There was a body of fresh water and we all would go in the water just to cool off and in our swimsuits. I really wish that pond would re-open for us to go swimming in but all the broken glass from the drunken people in the months of the winter kept throwing beer bottles on the icy pond plus water rats were at the bottom of the lake. I wish the Town of Lincoln had raised enough money to get rid of the problem we all had for so many years so we can go swimming in that pond once again.

The Blackstone River Park put on a historic tour with an NPS guide, so my review is more for that…read morethan for the bike path. There is a parking lot at the Wilber House (open seasonally) and the guide described and showed the site of the original mill off of the river canal and then walked us over the multistate bridge to the Ashton Mill and pointed out the smokestacks of the factory-turned-lofts and the old residence of the factory workers. If possible, you should check park events because it gave some great local history of the site. It sounds like they have some tours on weekdays and weekends. If not on a tour, there are some informational signs but not much to look at and wouldn't take more than 10 minutes to read the signs. The interaction was definitely a great additional to learning about the site.

With over 24 miles already constructed, the vision is for it to extend 48 miles from downtown Worcester, MA, to India Point Park in Providence, RI. From there, it connects with the existing East Bay Bike Path and continues to Bristol, RI, for additional 14.5 miles. When completed, the Blackstone River Bikeway will serve as an alternate mode of transportation for commuters as well as the region's premier recreational resource, connecting New England's second and third largest cities.

It's very kid friendly and there are tons of families there in a warm day. By the beach there are restrooms, picnic tables and a cafe that serves snacks, fast food and ice cream. You can walk a loop around the water which is very scenic and relatively easy on a paved road. Or you can venture off the road onto the many hiking and mountain biking trails that run through the woods. Bring decent shoes for this as the trails are relatively short but can be steep, rocky and muddy at times. It's beautiful and peaceful but also there are enough people out that a single woman alone could feel safe. Lots of people bring their dogs for walks here. There are also picnic spots with grills and areas where you can boulder and rock climb. Truly a lovely park that has something for everyone!

Cannon mortars and…read moremisery Veteran's Place is a small park like memorial that is right next to the Cumberland Public Library and close to a bunch of cool hiking trials. The park is a pleasant little area that has some paved paths, benches to sit on as well as lot of flowers and old trees. A big old cannon as well as some kind of cool looking mortar thing are hanging around as well as some tributes and memorials to the veterans of all American wars. Veteran's Place is near the oldest war memorial in the country, a very morbid place called Nine Men's Misery. This is a spot where nine colonists were captured and tortured to death by the Narragansett Tribe during the horrible King Phillip Wars. A brutal affair where atrocities were common on both sides. It's a lovely and peaceful place now but a nice reminder and tribute to the men and women in times past when the cost of freedom was anything but free.

The zoo charges now but no one is shooting at polar bears anymore (I sure do miss Frosty) and it is clean and pretty safe. I do miss the fantastic playground but I understand we live in litigious times. We just cannot have out kids on wooden see-saws and steel slides 10 feet high...with a huge bump that would send me flying off. But, I digress. Today, there are lovely fields to play frisbee and beautiful trees to admire, walking paths and some of the most beautiful monuments and memorials. Small park, big love. Please take a look for yourself. Oh, the squirrels are a little too tame. I worry for them. They sweetly come right up and beg. Be kind to them, please.

I stumbled upon it when I was househunting and it was a house for sale right next-door. I would have loved to of bought it just for this location! There are a few trails through here and they are marked so well there's no possible way you can get lost. Leads you out to a big lake. It's really neat because they're used to be a rail road that went through here and you can still see some of the stuff left behind.

There is only enough parking for 3 cars at the trailhead…read more The start of the trail runs along a stagnant stream, that breeds mosquitoes, so you should use mosquitoes spray before you start the trail. It is a calming trail, that is quite woodsy and you will hear many birds including woodpeckers ! You will definitely need to keep your eye on the trail, as there are a lot of rocks and tree roots on the trail that could easily twist an ankle or worse ! There are some inclines and downgrades on this trail, there Is one treacherous section before you get to the pond, that is a steep downgrade full of rocks ! The pond does offer some nice views and the trail is easy to follow. This trail is evaluated as a beginner's trail but there are some areas that in my opinion are intermediate in difficulty. A person should be in average physical condition, to do this trail. I am almost 75 years old, in average physical condition and was able to complete this trail. Overall this is a pretty good trail!
