Giving 1 star only because I can't give zero. Just got my hair done here and am livid. A few days ago, I specifically asked how much it would cost to get braids with extensions. I pointed at the exact picture of the cornrows I wanted and was told it would be 600 pesos (the equivalent of about $33 USD). I came for the appointment and added a hair wash and got the ends of my braids dipped in hot water to keep them from unraveling. When it came time to pay, all of a sudden the price jumped from 600 to 4000 pesos (the equivalent of $222 USD)! I only had about 1500 pesos on me. My Spanish isn't great, and I didn't know how to argue and didn't want to have the cops called on me if I didn't pay the full amount. The lady who did my hair sent the owner of the salon walk with me to an ATM to withdraw cash so that I could pay. After the appointment, I asked the person who referred me here what price she thought I was charged and she said "No more than 500 pesos (about $28 USD)". Every person I asked said the EXACT same number and when I told them how much I was charged they all urged me to go see the area's consumer affairs bureau (PROFECO) to report the salon. Unfortunately they said since there was no price given to me in writing ahead of my appointment, there was nothing I could do besides file a grievance. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. THEY VERBALLY QUOTE YOU A PRICE AND CHARGE MUCH MUCH MORE SPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A FOREIGNER AND ALSO THEY REFUSE TO GIVE RECEIPTS. My husband had to demand a note of the charges. When he, a Mexican-American, confronted the owner and took pictures of the establishment, she called him a "gringo salado apestoso" (salty smelling white man) and cussed him out while running after him. I can't imagine what she must've said about me when I wasn't there, as I'm black. By the way, I'm from California, arguably the most expensive state in the U.S., and even in Oakland I could expect to pay $100 AT THE MOST for a quality wash and braid including extensions! When my husband told the owner that it doesn't even cost half of what they charged me in California, she said "pero esto es Cancún" (Well this is Cancún). I was only taken advantage of because I was a tourist.
CUÍDESE QUE NO LO DEFRAUDEN A USTED. read more
