I am really annoyed at my dad right now. Why? Because he asked me two days ago if I wanted to go to…read moreThe Cave tonight as I LOVE going to new restaurants. It's only after eating this wonderful meal, he told me that he has been coming here for months with his old friends. It's like he didn't want to tell me...like..I don't know...he didn't want me to tell the whole internet! On entering you, you are greeted with a plethora of sweets! No messing about! Much like Jyotis in Hall Green, it's a good move to have a sweet shop in a restaurant. The amount of times I have been stuffed after a meal to have dessert, that you can pick up some cheeky jalebis or barfi to have when you get home. It's a cosy and intimate affair but certainly not cramped. The music was very calming and I felt totally relaxed as soon as I stepped into the Cave. It sounds cliche but it's true! The place was so clean and modern and looked like it just opened today, despite it being around for a year or two. While in the Cave, I bumped into and old friend and his daughter who said they were regulars. He is a harsher food critic than me! They had a Pizza which they said was perfect. The menu is amazing! They have all the usual burgers and pizzas but it's everything else which makes the Cave more appealing to your average Asian restaurant goer. The curries are really authentic and not too wild for any newcomer. No Chicken Tikka Masala here, but more Achari Chicken and Lahori Haleem. You don't like curry? No problem! There are plenty of starters for you to try individually or as part if the "Veg mix" or "The Cave mix" You are a Vegetarian or Vegan? No problem! There are 7 veggie curries, endless starters and naans and rotis for you to sample! Me and my dad went for the starters option. Grilled fish, Baby chicken, Masala rice and Tandoori Roti. The part of this selection that blew me away was the Grilled fish. It's an insult to make the comparison, but the only similar method of fish I have had is masala fish, which can be found in most kebab shops around England. But those are laden with salt, oil and food coloring. The Cave's grilled fish was delicate, soft with a slight spice which made it a joy to eat with rice. The Chicken wasn't grilled but done as a rotisserie done with coating of your choice. I went for mild, as you know my dislike for things chilli. It was better tasting and a snip in price than other chain that does grilled Chicken.. All members of staff were accommodating and friendly which was a lovely touch. I really can't wait to come back and try the curries in particular because from the descriptions, sound unpretentious and genuine. My dad has tried some and can vouch for them being great! It is definitely a place where I would bring friend to eat in a less formal yet still lovely surroundings. But would feel fine about coming to on my own. And not a trace of Pork, Beef or alcohol in sight... p.s I forgot to say there was plenty of salad on every plate!

You can tell the guy what 'heat' you like ... and worth considering the heat settings seem tailored for Indian and Pakistani tastes. I go mild! Food tastes fresh and quality is good. Prices are fair. The pizza tho' I wasn't keen on. Imagine a mildly curried pizza sauce on sub-average base and you've pretty much got it. Something for the kids maybe! The tea at £1 a cup is awesome value and the Chai/Desi tea is great too but is rather less bargain territory. They sell a decent enough selection of 'Indian Sweets' but none of the ones I like unfortunately! It's a spacious place with effectively two room, plus the kitchen. Service is good tho can be a little slow at times even when it's empty. When I'm working over that way I'll usually pop in for a working lunch a couple of times during the week. It's definitely the best food place around the Cape Hill area ... at least that I've found so far.

Slice of life. This…read morewas definitely the best pizza place I've visited in Birmingham during my time here. I'm very happy with the success of the launch of Otto. When I first heard of eight foot grocery, I wasn't aware of such a good deli in Birmingham. However with Otto in addition in the arsenal, jewellery quarter is a must place for food lovers. The boastings of Otto was the high quality ingredients and it didn't disappoint, see the individual reviews for 4 different pizzas below: Special 1 - pumpkin, pine nuts, crispy bacon, mozzarella drizzled with honey - Not too heavy and not too light. The pizza gives a Hawaiian feel, however there are no juices, but you definitely do taste the sweet glaze. Special 2 - fresh coppa, mozzarella, topped with rocket - ham, with rocket. Even though it was a special, I think it's missing a flavour, perhaps add some olives or maybe some pesto to give it an extra bang. Main 2 - Nduja, Mozzarella and tomato - spicy chilli salami paste scattered all over the pizza. It gives the pizza a nice kick, just how I like it. Main 4 - Mushroom, seared pepper, artichoke, tomato and ricotta - a unique pizza without the mozzarella, therefore it's particularly saucy but the vegetables and ricotta make up for that. I also recommend the tomato and pesto flatbread, just can't go wrong with pesto on some bread. Warm and crispy with the flavour of the pesto complimenting the bread. Service was very good, with regular staff making sure the food was ok and no problems encountered - just how it should be! I can see this place becoming not only an evening hangout but a great lunch area too! With takeouts available, there's just no way you can miss an opportunity to try Otto. Great pizza, great price. Would visit again.

There are a couple of No. 1 Pizza takeaways in Birmingham now, there's another one in Walsall as well. I went to the one in West Brom last week on my way to Wolverhampton. Me and friends decided to stop at No.1 because like I said you can basically feed a group of 5 people on 2/3 pizzas for £5. At the moment they have a great offer on: 'Buy any size pizza & get one free'- which is a guarantee that everyone will be fully fed and happy. Though they have their own selection of pizza's i.e. Meat Feast, Spicy Chicken. You can also create your own pizza with a selection of various toppings. Try the, spicy chicken pizza but with a little extra chilli- just the right way to spice up your life.

Nowhere in Smethwick was serving and we ended up in West Brom. Thankfully we caught whatever the pizza world's equivalent of last orders is here. The strange thing is that the sign on the window suggests that they close early so maybe they've changed in the few months since. I hope not because late-night pizza appears strangely hard to come by in these parts. If the pizzas are still as nice and value for money as they were very nice indeed. If you find kebabs too messy, chips too greasy and Maccies too...well, have you ever seen Supersize Me? Then this is a pretty good alternative.

Prices for a 9' pizza range from £3 to £3.50 (with an added £1 for a stuffed crust), and every topping you could ever wish for is readily available, as well as a myriad of reasonably-priced delicious side dishes (try the mozzarella dippers). A word of caution - although their menu claims 'free' delivery, these prices are ramped up considerable - pick your food up and use your savings to buy another pizza or three - you will thank me later. Although the Bristol Road, being at the heart of the student area of Selly Oak, has more takeaways you can shake a stick at, I feel I have some authority as a takeaway connoisseur to tell you if you have to choose one, make it Pizza Land.

One of the best food outlets in Selly Oak is Pizza Land, offering great pizzas at low prices and doing so with a high level of customer service. Toppings make a pizza and this place has an innumerable amount which means you can tailor your pizza to make it exactly how you like it. Places such as Dominos offer pizzas at extortionate prices and can often take an absolute age to be made and then delivered, there is no danger of that at Pizza Land and as such I believe it is a much better establishment than many main stream pizza chains. After a night at the pub then a pizza is a great late night treat to indulge in and this place is definitely the best parlour to pay a visit to.

My partner in crime had a few reward vouchers to redeem that were good for quite a few chains around Brum. But I nominated Ask. We visited a large and easily accessible location on Hagley Road. It had a nice (and free) car park. As we walked toward the entrance I noticed a few picnic benches out front that would be lovely to sit out on a warm summers eve. Too bad summer is already over. The dining area was a good size. We had no trouble getting seated. A server quickly greeted us and took our drink order. I always appreciate prompt service like that. The menu had a good variety of pizzas, pasta, and seafood. We decided to go for the antipasto board to share, a lobster prawn pasta dish for myself, and a fancy chicken pizza for my companion. The cocktail menu was on the smaller size, but that didn't stop me from trying it! I had the delicious Italian Twinkle which was a refreshing mix of Prosecco, elderflower, vodka and lemon. And since I'm a glutton for these fruity drinks I had another round. This time Moscato D'Asti with raspberries. Both were wonderful, sweet, and fruity. The antipasto starter was alright. It was a mixture of a few things. Not my ideal choice, but nice to try. The rosemary and sea salt bread that came with it was lovely. My main was excellent. There were large chunks of seafood in it. The pasta tasted very fresh. The croutons were a bit odd because they seemed a bit soggy. Overall a really great choice. I would definitely choose it again! I actually liked it so much I wanted seconds!! Since there's no unlimited pasta at Ask, I had to get a dessert to fill me ;) I chose the grande gelato. It wasn't that pretty to look at, but what it lacked in looks it made up for in taste. It was a couple scoops of creamy vanilla gelato mixed with fresh berries, cream, and pieces of meringue. It reminded me of an of Eaton Mess, a better version though. I had a great experience at Ask. Nothing but great food and friendly service. It wouldn't take much to persuade me to return again.

We had a really long table that easily accomodated all 20 of us, and even though it meant I could only speak to those who were right next to me, it was still absolutely fine as we then went out drinking afterwards. Well done Ask for offering an affordable and non-hideous option for a hen-do meal!
