There's two sides to Valentino's --- a fairly well-stocked Italian grocery and bakery inside, and a grab-and-go cart by the door. I haven't spent much time inside, but I have sampled the hot calzones at the cart --- and I doubt I will again.
The calzone dough is sweet like fried dough, not savory like pizza crust. Not as sweet as a donut, though. The "prosciutto" tasted like supermarket sliced ham to me.
The least promising aspect was the distribution of fillings --- all of the cheese, and most of the ham, was at one end of the calzone. The other end was a dry, sweet expanse of fried dough.
I may spend more time exploring the inside, but probably won't hit the cart again. read more
