It can be difficult to find honest and reliable HVAC companies, but this experience stood out. I had several questions prepared about my refrigerant, capacitor, and overall system, but I found that I did not even need to ask them because Jerry naturally addressed those topics during our conversation and explained everything clearly. He also completed a detailed inspection of my HVAC closet and offered a helpful recommendation for a better filter. The service was straightforward, with a flat fee and no upselling or pressure, which I really appreciated. Overall, it was a great experience, and I will definitely be using Cold Comfort again for my annual maintenance.

Jary (who helped us when we first moved in) came out on Tuesday and said we had a leak somewhere since the closed-system unit was totally out of coolant. He came back Weds. to do the leak detection and found the leak, recommended a new coil. We had the new coil installed on Friday; this time it was Ricardo and team that did the work installing the coil. They did a great job and a couple hours later our house was back to normal temperature. Gabriel helped us with all the coordination and estimates and seeing if the part was still under warranty (it wasn't, but I didn't expect it would be honestly.) No one likes spending a bunch of money on repairs but I'm very confident that the recommendations Jary made were sound and correct. He did not attempt to upsell me at all, which is greatly appreciated. (The estimates Gabriel sent did include options for replacing the unit, but that wasn't necessary at this time and there was no pressure to do so.) I will continue to call them if we have issues in future with our HVAC system.

I had to take an entire day off from work and wait at home for the technician. Around 12:00 PM, I called to check on the status, and the AI representative told me that a note would be left regarding my call. I called again around 3:30 PM and received the same response. The service window has now passed, and no technician ever showed up. I wasted an entire day waiting at home, with no meaningful update or communication about when--or whether--the technician was coming. This was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. If the company could not make the appointment, they should have notified me rather than leaving me waiting all day. We used the builder's plumbing company who installed it to perform replacement. 2 years later, the same problem occurred again and we decided to try someone new - Michael and Son. What a joke! Their technician came out and started to push for tank replacement or flushing service with extension tank replacement for almost $1K. This figure included the diagnosis fee of $174. I knew something was off so I paid him the $174 and sent him off. Before his left, he asked me to open my phone, click on the link he sent, STARED at me and my phone to give him a good review. I gave him a 5 and deleted the review after his departure. Then I started to look for a new company and examined their online reviews more carefully this time. I was a little skeptical about Potomac HVAC's reviews originally because it had so many 5 star reviews which is hard for me to believe. Well, I stand corrected. Mike showed up within 2 hours and I jumped into discussing system replacement cost. He was honest, friendly, respectful, and professional. He said he liked to make money but it wouldn't be the best choice. He adjusted the mixing valve FOR FREE!!!!!!! Michael and Son charged me $174 for diagnosis and did nothing. What a scam! Just like many reviews you see here. I can confirm Mike deserves a 5 star rating. I would have given him 6 star if I can.......

They are professional, punctual, knowledgeable and do good quality work. I very much respect the…read moretechnician, but the problem appears to lie with the company's practices and fees. The main problem and downside is that they are very expensive and overcharge. Despite the Yelp page saying that the company provides a "free estimate", I was quoted $49 for the technician to travel. In addition, if I had not chosen to go ahead with the repair, the company would have charged me an additional $150 diagnostic fee. Essentially, despite the yelp profile stating a "free estimate", it will cost you closer to $200 to get a quote. I see this as false advertisement. In addition, when the technician concluded that the problem was the capacitor, I received a final quote of $600. When I googled the price of the same capacitor online, the price range was in between 75$ - 150$. Essentially, they are charging a premium of at least $450 per replacement for a single part (capacitor). Despite their professionalism and quality work, I do not recommend this company for the reasons stated above. If price is not a concern for you, and you would rather pay twice the market value for a job then you should definitely choose them. EDIT: I actually googled the price of a capacitor and offered to buy my own. I was told that by the technician that if I purchased my own capacitor that the company would not install it. In conclusion, they did not address any of my concerns. Unfortunately, after reading the other bad reviews, there seems to be a consistent pattern of discrepancies between what they tell customers and what they instruct technicians to say on site. Making an honest living is so much more rewarding than making it dishonest living.
