Andre and Kastania are great at staying in touch with local and national level BJJ scene. They are always looking for opportunities for students to compete in competitions and hold a number of BJJ seminars throughout the year. They have coached their two children in BJJ for over 10 years and understand how to teach complex submissions to young minds. Jason Wong is a high level competitor (Brown Belt) and kids instructor. He has his Black Belt in Judo, and teaches the kids more than just ground work. He ensures that the kids learn discipline and respect of the art. Coach Buck is a former college wrestler who is actively coaching in high school, middle school, and youth wrestling programs. My son is in the baby shark class and has learned more in a few short months, than he has than the last year elsewhere. The gym is clean. It looks clean, it smells clean, and you can even witness cleaning in between classes. Baby Sharks: There are two adults managing the baby shark class, they do not allow nor teach chokes at this level, and they even have teens that are very knowledgable assisting. Each group is heavily monitored. The class, though only 30 minutes, is absolutely jam packed. They normally do a warm up (like running, a counting game, and some body movements). Then it's usually technique, drills, and sparring. There is little opportunity for your little one to get TOO distracted because there isn't much time in-between each transition. There are plenty of hands so kids aren't just sitting around waiting. And they are working! My kid always comes out sweaty. What I will say, is I appreciate the way the professors calm a meltdown. There is no yelling, there is no shaming. It's a low voice, with expectations and consequence. Whether it be no sparring that day, or whatever. The kids are constantly being asked by the instructors: What's #1 and they respond FAMILY! #2 SCHOOL! #3 FAMILY/JIUJITSU I just really love and appreciate the emphasis on correction, discipline, and respect. Adult class: I never imagined I myself trying, but after a gf said she tried it and loved it, she asked me to come to the women's class. I did, and I haven't looked back. I have no skills in this, I have no special athleticism, and yet.... here I am. grinding my way through. It's not easy... but it's so fun, and the camaraderie this gym has built is unmatched. You will get thrown in, but it's a safe environment. It's constant refinement in technique. And maybe some self awareness on the students end! The women's group alone is full of classy, wonderful ladies who will absolutely demolish you.... but in a good way. They are friendly, they are knowledgable, and they have inspired me to continue. I strive to learn, get better, and be a good training partner. So this was a lengthy way to say, that if you're on the fence about it... just do it. Leave your ego behind and just go for it. Age, sex, whatever. None of it matters. Just be teachable.

He quickly made his way to the 6-9 year old class and with Professor's guidance he jumped on into competing allowing him to earn a silver metal. For context my kid is really shy and quiet. Being at APEX has allowed him to feel more comfortable opening up and has gained a lot of confidence in the short time that he has been there. My husband and I enjoy how welcoming the environment is for us as parents and the kids are also welcoming and help each other out in order to get better. Professor Ramos is very gentle, patient, and observing in every kids individual level. He teaches them fundamentals, and technique as well as how to stay focus. For adults: i personally really enjoy going for myself. I started off with some private lessons with professor Ramos to get some basics. He was very patient with me and allowed me to feel comfortable starting my journey at 35 years old. I also joined in on the women's class which is filled with such incredible women who teach me something new at every class. I started attending the 630am class and it's been so much fun. Everyday is a challenge and a learning lesson. I leave Apex with a solid workout and a feeling of accomplishment and determination to do better next time. But one thing that is consistent are the amazing people and their support. The gym is very clean, mats are always being cleaned. It's a quiet office with a large hallway restroom, complimentary coffee and teas in the waiting room. Being within a Dr's office, it was clean and felt safe and serene. I received the 90 min hot stone massage and opted for the CBD oil add-on. My neck, shoulder and arm pain is something that comes and goes. At its worst, I feel radiating pain and achiness that can continue for several days and disturb my sleep. This time, instead of "enduring" it for several days (and whining to my husband) I booked an appt with Linda. Online booking is super easy and convenient. If you don't know what type of massage you want or need, it's OK! Because Linda will ask you and adjust as needed. When I told her my symptoms, she included some trigger points and stretches! Ahhhhhh She definitely focused on my neck, shoulder and arm (main complaint) but did not forget the rest of my body! ( I didn't realize my lower back and legs were also tight!) The CBD oil did not smell and was a thick oil. She told me not to shower tonight. The only bad thing about CBD oil is that if it gets in your hair, your hair looks super greasy. So bring a hat if you need to go somewhere afterward. Not sure if it was the CBD or the actual massage, but I slept really well and did not wake up multiple times, as I had been doing! My neck and shoulder felt so much better, very loose and I no longer felt the deep radiating ache! I plan to do bi-weekly appts with Linda, as part of my self-care routine!
