This review will cover baby sharks and adult classes! We have been attending Apex since October. My son is in the baby shark class and has learned more in a few short months, than he has than the last year elsewhere. The gym is clean. It looks clean, it smells clean, and you can even witness cleaning in between classes. Baby Sharks: There are two adults managing the baby shark class, they do not allow nor teach chokes at this level, and they even have teens that are very knowledgable assisting. Each group is heavily monitored. The class, though only 30 minutes, is absolutely jam packed. They normally do a warm up (like running, a counting game, and some body movements). Then it's usually technique, drills, and sparring. There is little opportunity for your little one to get TOO distracted because there isn't much time in-between each transition. There are plenty of hands so kids aren't just sitting around waiting. And they are working! My kid always comes out sweaty. What I will say, is I appreciate the way the professors calm a meltdown. There is no yelling, there is no shaming. It's a low voice, with expectations and consequence. Whether it be no sparring that day, or whatever. The kids are constantly being asked by the instructors: What's #1 and they respond FAMILY! #2 SCHOOL! #3 FAMILY/JIUJITSU I just really love and appreciate the emphasis on correction, discipline, and respect. Adult class: I never imagined I myself trying, but after a gf said she tried it and loved it, she asked me to come to the women's class. I did, and I haven't looked back. I have no skills in this, I have no special athleticism, and yet.... here I am. grinding my way through. It's not easy... but it's so fun, and the camaraderie this gym has built is unmatched. You will get thrown in, but it's a safe environment. It's constant refinement in technique. And maybe some self awareness on the students end! The women's group alone is full of classy, wonderful ladies who will absolutely demolish you.... but in a good way. They are friendly, they are knowledgable, and they have inspired me to continue. I strive to learn, get better, and be a good training partner. So this was a lengthy way to say, that if you're on the fence about it... just do it. Leave your ego behind and just go for it. Age, sex, whatever. None of it matters. Just be teachable. read more

Professor Ramos and Coach Lester are amazing with the kids. My 5 year old started 4 months ago with the baby sharks and loved it. He quickly made his way to the 6-9 year old class and with Professor's guidance he jumped on into competing allowing him to earn a silver metal. For context my kid is really shy and quiet. Being at APEX has allowed him to feel more comfortable opening up and has gained a lot of confidence in the short time that he has been there. My husband and I enjoy how welcoming the environment is for us as parents and the kids are also welcoming and help each other out in order to get better. Professor Ramos is very gentle, patient, and observing in every kids individual level. He teaches them fundamentals, and technique as well as how to stay focus. For adults: i personally really enjoy going for myself. I started off with some private lessons with professor Ramos to get some basics. He was very patient with me and allowed me to feel comfortable starting my journey at 35 years old. I also joined in on the women's class which is filled with such incredible women who teach me something new at every class. I started attending the 630am class and it's been so much fun. Everyday is a challenge and a learning lesson. I leave Apex with a solid workout and a feeling of accomplishment and determination to do better next time. But one thing that is consistent are the amazing people and their support. The gym is very clean, mats are always being cleaned. Overall a wonderful place, I really would recommend to everyone to check it out. Can't wait for what the future holds for our kid, one thing is for sure, he'll keep on learning a life skill from one the best, professor Ramos. read more

Apex BJJ - My boys having fun during open mat - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Vacaville, California

Cleidson Ramos is a phenomenal Jiu Jitsu professor and all-around great person. He puts his whole heart into teaching Jiu Jitsu, and the degree to which he cares about his students is unmistakable. I was very nervous starting Jiu Jitsu as a woman in my late 30s with no martial arts experience, but Professor Ramos has always made me feel welcome in class, even in classes where I've been the only woman present. He makes me feel as though he's genuinely happy that I'm there. The students at Apex BJJ also deserve mention. This group is truly a family. I wish I had started Jiu Jitsu earlier in my life for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is the phenomenal people I have had the opportunity to meet. I was involved in sports growing up, but a good Jiu Jitsu family is like no other team. The Apex crew is a perfect example of this. When I feel like I might be too tired to train, the desire to see my friends propels me into the gym. No matter how tired or stressed I might be, I never regret showing up, and I always go home feeling better than before I stepped onto the mats. It's hard to describe how much stronger I feel now than before I started Jiu Jitsu because the difference is so stark, but physical strength is only part of it. I feel mentally stronger and more confident across different areas of my life. I've only been training for about 18 months, but Jiu Jitsu has absolutely changed my life for the better. I feel very lucky to have found Professor Ramos on Day One of my Jiu Jitsu journey, and even luckier to be part of Apex BJJ. read more

Coach: Cleidson is an amazingly attentive, talented and detail oriented coach. He leads by example and when it comes to consistency he's hard to beat. Through the pandemic Cleidson was a rock for his gym and more importantly for his students regardless of age. My daughter loves training under him and began competing 3 months after joining him. It's built her confidence and many of her peers in class have become her closest friends. Gym: getting used to the new gym but it's clean and sanitized after every practice which is huge for us. The members: this is the clincher, the guys and gals here make or break a gym and that's one of the biggest reasons I enjoy coming in. The family environment is amazing, the level of camaraderie is second to none. If your looking for a place to train, socialize and make great friends in the process this is the place. Love the gym, coach and the people at Apex BJJ! read more

Apex is my first experience with BJJ. I'm so glad I was recommended this place, from the get go it was a welcoming and friendly environment that the Professor has made. Everyone there is wonderful, and patient, always willing to work with you and help you learn. The instruction is easy to understand and the fundamentals classes have helped me as a slow learner, and are really good at building confidence. I just attended the first all women's class, and it was so good, I can't wait till the next one. I could keep writing about how great this place it, there's so much to say. This is a great place for beginners and more advanced students, I would encourage anyone to check this place out! read more

I am honored to give Apex BJJ a well-deserved 5 star review. We are so proud of Professor Cleidson Ramos in his endeavors and successes in opening his own BJJ academy! My 5-year-old son has been training with Professor Cleidson for over a year since his work at a previous facility, and he chose to follow his Coach to his new gym when it opened. My husband, too, became inspired to start his own BJJ journey and now trains at Apex as well (when he earned his first stripe, our son said, "I'm so proud of you Daddy! You're catching up to me! ). Our younger daughter, who just turned 2, can't wait to start training with Coach next year and has been asking for her "own gi." Professor Cleidson has a great depth of knowledge, skill, and experience, and has mastered the art of being able to transfer his knowledge to his students--from brand-new 3-year-olds to well-seasoned black belts. He has created a safe, clean, family-friendly environment where you feel welcome from the second you walk in the door. He has taught his students and their families to become a community whose members support each other and celebrate each other's successes. He instills confidence in addition to teaching skills, and it is amazing to see how much my son has grown since he started training. Older students from the teens class come to the "baby sharks" class to help train and mentor the younger children, further building self-confidence and integrating the family feel. Professor Cleidson teaches that BJJ is a lifestyle, and it is clear that he lives true to this statement. He isn't the typical businessman and though he provides exceptional quality service, nothing about the business feels like it is about the money. There are no contracts or extra fees, and Professor Cleidson gives back to his community, often holding children's events with no extra charge and offering free classes to teens who wish to train but can't afford it. We've brought friends and family visiting from out of town to Apex classes to try it out, and Professor Cleidson has always welcomed them and never charged a penny. I proudly recommend Apex BJJ Academy without reservation. Check it out! You'll be happy you joined the Apex Fam. Thanks Coach for all you do! read more
